The day is young and I have already replaced the broken and hanging out number plate lights with some new LED ones - much better 😃

You was up early, got a little excited with the new parts? I know the feeling, I once did an 'allnighter' with a mate and put a 3.0 litre engine in a Capri so we could go to the coast the next day with some ladies...….could not get it started so never went.....boo.

Cheers @CAZ but the photos are a bit misleading.  When viewed in bright sunlight there is still some faint "ghosting" where the badge was, so the boot lid still needs a good polish, or maybe some T-Cut and a decent wax to bring back the shine and restore the colour.  However, all the glue residue is gone, and it does look much better without the badge IMHO.

Great job Dave, all your worries have been forgotten. T-Cut will help just do a little at a time and polish off until your happy, it will remove all the surface around the area, gently bently. I have seen some mares with petrol tanks from motorcycles with badge removal and T-cut, mind you bike paint is thin.

Once happy stick a dose of your favourite polish on. :)

  3. Time to get an MOT and go for a drive to a local or not so local area for a walk me thinks. Sun is shining and the roof goes down.....

I am lucky to still be working so have been using mine to get to work this week, they are so much more fun than the daily driver.

I used this, which I thought would be fine, but it didn't do a great job - hence buying the caramel wheel:

Hmmm, never heard of it....I have various label and adhesive removers at work including RS label remover, none of them work as well as white spirit, thing is I cant give white spirit it to my techs as it does not smell of lemons. Meh, bloody pansies.

I've just ordered a caramel wheel to finish off the final bits that are proving to be really difficult to remove.... Never even heard of one before I joined here, hopefully it will make life easier and I won't balls it up

I always use white spirit to remove old adhesive, just have a nice big cloth ready to wipe away often.

  6. I have one, recently changed seat belts and had a code come up so purchased, reset it no problem. Changed the manifolds to sports cats and an error came up, purchased some right angle Lambda sensor manifolds, cleared the faults and no codes...….worked for me again, win win. I keep it in the car for a just in case moment. Worth the 100 odd quid to save a dealer trip.

Hmmm, 3 observations from this photo, now I see them:

    1. The suction from that fatter black tube on the right is strong if it can suspend the rear of the car like that!!

    2. that’s NOT my engine, out of the car! Paraphrasing Michael Caine, “you were only supposed to take the [rear] wheels off!”

    3. The lighting and angle of the pic, plus reflections, makes the rear spoiler look as though it has a hollow section in the centre....

A saddo that I am, that's not a suction tube for the car its to put your droid in the back aka Star Wars.

Washed it! Really grubby from the building work and constant crappy weather. Really needs another application of Poorboys Blackhole, but a quick wash and dry makes it look ok. The only shiny thing amongst the chaos at the moment

I went through the same type of build last year and hated the Box being near the site...….your brave those timbers look like the slightest gust will topple them......

If it's bribery (or blackmail) you're after, you can use this one:

It's an old pic, and my hair is a lot shorter now

As far as the hire car goes, I'll be driving it as little as possible, so just a 40 min drive back to Vienna airport on Friday afternoon.  The rest of the week I can walk into work as it's only across the road from my hotel, thank God :thumbsup_anim:

Very fetching Dave. Its a HIRE car, get it off road, it should go back with bald tyres and worn brake pads. Little tip for you, NEVER buy an ex hire car that's been near me....just sayin.

Top tip, when removing rear suspension, for Spring replacement , dot punch the position before hand, I marked up with white paint, and with the liberal amounts of WD washed it off!!!, so now got to take some measurements off the untouched side to get it close for driving to the alignment place at some point.

Good tip, thanks. quick question, do you have to drop the drive shaft to remove the rear strut?

Had a nice early drive in the 987 this morning, left the house at 4:30am to go to Stansted airport. Arrived really early for my flight to Vienna, but I always allow a few extra hours in case of any unforeseen problems, this time from any left over bits of storm Ciara (Stansted was a lot busier than normal thanks to all the cancelled flights yesterday).  I travel to Austria once a month for work, and will be here until Friday.  I've got the joys of a lovely bright orange Fiat Panda hire car to drive around in.  And by "drive around", I mean drive 40 mins from the airport to the hotel, and then back again at the end of the week, with absolutely no driving planned in between (unless I can find a paper bag to go over my head, of course...)

Oh, and a sneaky little trick, I deliberately switched the Panda to "ECO" mode so it feels extra sluggish, then when I get back in the Boxster it will feel like a bloody Millenium Falcon! :thumbsup_anim:

lol Dave, need pictures of you in Orange Panda, hope you packed your tight leather pants. I can top that, hire car waiting at Tenerife one year was a bright pink mk1 panda, I opened the door and it was the same inside! Tried to shut the door and it kept coming open....in the end I walked away and 'upgraded' to a Pug 206. Wish I had a box of matches in my pocket that day...….

Stripped down near side rear for lowering replacement , had to cut off drop link and apply some cunning ruses to get it out.... But out it is. Unlike the front end everything else finally moved and came out...... But that was enough for one morning !!!!,

Keep us updated on your progress, and any tips of the strip and build with piccy's if poss, I am going to put 10mm lower springs into mine at some point in the next few months. Cheers
