At least KwikFit do not charge for regassing if there are still leaks in the system (in old cars the pipes are known to corrode under the car), keep that in mind.

Or get pinched and split where they run near the jacking points on the driver's side.

    Single Bulb

Found these at ECP not sure if the bulb might be dimensionally too large though....if you have the Bulb & holder out of car might be worth a look.

They are in the top list that @Paul P posted of various bands for the same bulbs, so all good.

Thanks dude, that’s awesome. What did you search for to find those? I’ve been searching quite a bit but didn’t find those.

I recalled seeing them listed on CP4L when I was looking for brake pads, they showed up then.

And Porsche want to charge over £7 each...

    You're welcome!

Besides, I enjoy research like this :geek: and its rewarding to beat  'The Man'.

  7. Here we go:

    999 631 303 90 - Beige 1.5W Osram 2452MFX6/ Hella 8GA 007 997-141

    999 631 302 90 - Black 1.2W Osram 2351MFX6 / Hella 8GA 007 997-121

All the alternative green ones, 999 631 304 90, are 2W not 3W that the part cat lists.

Looks like they are widely available for under £2 each.  All the above info came from Autodoc after a Google search for 'osram instrument cluster bulbs'

I've saved this to my OE supplier part numbers data for future reference.

That will be one of the black ones. I have tried to see if I can find what wattages they are but I'll have to take one out and look on the base. I'll do that tonight when I work on the car.

    Check out this though: https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Boxster_Tech/102-ELEC-Instrument_Cluster_Bulb_Replacement/102-ELEC-Instrument_Cluster_Bulb_Replacement.htm

Black ones are 1.2W, you can see it moulded into them if you zoom in on your picture.  I wonder where the 3W green ones are used?  Also I can't see bulbs for the indicator or main beam indication bulbs in the centre dial.

Next challenge is to find where you can buy these Osram bulbs without Porsche tax.  I'll let you know if I find them.

I was hoping somebody would have the info not ask me to remove the instrument pod as the car isn't at my house atm 😒

No, I was asking Eugene (RedBarediver), the original poster, to check inside his pod that he's working on to get the info for you.  If he can do that I can add a definitive part number guide for each type of instrument pod bulb.

Great topic-while on this subject anybody well informed regarding which wattage bulb is used for convertible roof dash warning light?

    Thanks in advance.

It will be one these, @RedBarediver, whilst your instrument pod is out, can you see what colour the warning lights across the bottom are?

Hi do you use the Gummi Pflege Rubber Treatment or Rubber Care (or is it same thing) on amazon rubber treatment is around £12 for 500ml and rubber care is £5 for 50 ml

    Thanks

This is the product I've been using.  It looks expensive at a quick glance but I've been using it a couple of times a year both on the 986 and on The Better ½'s Golf cabrio, for about 4 years, so a little goes a long way.

Not sure what you are getting at.  But I’ve done the complete wiring from the switch to the seat as per the factory wiring.  The switch is functioning as it should, press once for high, press again for low.  Press the led on the switch to switch off.

I just don’t feel the seats heat up as much I was expecting.

I have not fitted eBay heated seat elements to factory switches.

It was confirming info for others, not critique for your work.  Someone seemed to be suggestion just connect 12v through the switch and to the seat, but it needs a more rigorous approach as you have demonstrated.

  13. So if paired with the correct original switch and the correct wiring it should switch power modes I'd have thought.  You can't just plug in 12v and hope it will work correctly.  The wiring diagram gives you the pin outs for the switch, the control unit and the connector under the seat at least.

  14. According the the wiring diagrams I have (see below, 2000 and the 2001 onwards but they look the same to me, but with different layouts) there is a control unit as well as a switch for the 986 seats.  There are 4 inputs from the switch plus a 12v supply in and out. Someone smarter than me at car electrics may be able to work out the symbols to tells us what int eh switch and what's in the control unit.

They control units are in the seat but I'll be damned if I can find them in the parts cat unless they are part of the elements.

  15. They will not all be beige, just the instrument ones.  The other colours will be for the warning lights or even LED backlighting.  I suspect the instruments will all have the same backlighting bulb.  Try putting one from another instrument into the rev counter and see if it fires up.

If you have a multi-meter, set it to resistance.  By Ohm's law, R=V2/P (resistance = voltage squared divided by the power).  So a 1.2w bulb (black) for 12 v will give 120ohms and 1.5w (beige) bulb will give 96ohms and 3w (green) will give 48ohms.

Trying to save you money here!

  16. Someone did a chart on here, I booked marked it, but the topic has now gone. ☹️

Checking the parts cat, they don't give a quantity per vehicle (which they do for most parts) so can't even work it backwards.  I have found this through putting the part numbers into the D911:

    999 631 302 90 - black base 1.2W

    999 631 303 90 - beige base 1.5 W

    999631 304 90 - green base 3W

As they are about £7 or £8 each you may want to check what colour the blown one is before blowing £20+.

That sort of wear is caused by camber, not alignment. I'd assume, the Boxster being a sports car, that the rears would have some negative camber, so that wear is probably normal, no?

Camber tends to be a continuous gradient across the tyre (Unless it is way, way out)  That looks as if it is toed out.  And that's when you find (whether camber or toe) that the rear eccentric bolts for camber and toe adjustment are seized in their alloy bushes and you need new coffin arms and toe links...

It's the silly perforated discs that are a  gimmick imoa.Nothing to do with cost.

They do at least three things.  Deglaze the pads, allow more routes for cooling air and save weight on an unsprung component so reducing suspension inertia.

My fault - I've had front discs, pads, braided hoses and a GT3 master cylinder for ages and not fitted them out of laziness. In fairness I did the rears and the handbrake pads myself. I had an advisory on the MOT for front inner discs and one of the rear solid pipes last year. Anyway the car went on the lift yesterday and the inner discs look like a map of the himalayas 😲. Also several of the solid pipes are way worse than I would like. I didn't think the brakes were all that bad....

    It's booked in.

Did they look something like this?

Happy to help changing front disc and pads.  Brake lines, not so much having done mine last year.

I buy it in 25 litre drums and use it all the way from neat (wheel arches etc) to circa 30% as an APC.

Avoid the cheaper options that claim to do the same, they are no where near as good.

Strong mixes there!  General cleaner is supposed to be 8:1 according to the Auto Smart data sheets.

  21. Put it into eBay, quite a lot of outlets sell it in varying quantities.,  I got 1 litre, which at 8:1 dilution for this sort of application will last me pretty much for ever...  That said it works as a degreaser too for engine bays and the like at higher concentrations.
