  1. Hi I did a quick search and didn’t find anything recent.

I’m absolutely loving the 981, the noise, the handling, the comfort.

    But

I’m having some trim squeaks, rattles and pops. The main ones seem to be coming from the area around the rollover hoops?

the dash clock cluster area also seems like it wants to make a crack/creak sound every now and then.

so I thought we could have a thread where people have had a rattle or noise interior trim wise and the fix or suggestions?

I was going to pull the covers off the roll over parts and pop grease on the fixing tabs and perhaps some fabric tape (wiring loom stuff) on any bits that look like they are rubbing.

    thanks in advance

Absolute bargain, 007, one of the first batch with a massive spec. Normally this would be c£25k from a dealer.

    On autotrader sold by Sterling's

    Beat me too it

Looks good if you’re in the market for a genuine BE

  3. Well….

its funny how things just happen

    Deposit down on a ‘14 3.4S boxster

private sale, it’s a heap of cash which I’m still wrestling with… it’s maybe not unicorn spec but it has a lot

    details soon

does means I am now more motivated to move my old 987 😉

  4. Leather was not as nice as I had thought it would be,certainly the standard cabin is a nice place to be

Id likely put PSE or Carnewal if it didn’t have it but as I can spanner this is an easy up grade

as is cruise bar the coding but that’s fine

things like electric seats which I loved, and PASM are expensive to retro fit, PASM to the point you’d be better off buying a car with it!

hope to look at another tomorrow, one of the short list got snapped up

that’s the biggest quandry now is when do I stop looking, will more come out for sale when the weather improves ? of course the prices won’t be as nice but that’s ok for the right car

I  think the right 981 could be a +5-6 year keeper to be honest from what I’ve driven

need to try a non opening roof one too just so I’m not always having coupe wanderlust

this is a great response. Keep the points coming .

  5. Tried 2 981s’s today. Made my 2.7 feel like it was broken. Nicely quick. Not Tesla rapid of course.

so deffo 3.4 (unless there is a unicorn spec one appearing…)
PASM is on my must have list now.

not fussed on extended leather or sports exhaust actually.

got a couple of others to try next week…

  6. P Zeros are bad right?
Hopefully looking at couple of cars this weekend the one which has PASM and is a bit more ££ is on P Zeros - replacing with PS4S's is £1000 right?

so that the next q - current market not many with PASM so how important should  it be to me?

I have a spreadsheet now as the options and having to recheck pictures was just getting old...

come on @Dubdubz, you've started down the slippery slope, you are 60% of the way there to using man maths to justify a Spyder as that has even more HP!!

Dig deep - it'll be worth it in the end :)

I'm using very thinly spread man maths as it is already...

Actually I decided at the weekend these cars are a pain to try and buy as said already its options bingo....nice colour, nice wheels, someone onm acid then cbose the interior...then try and find one with PASM and PDK and ... and - it gets boring

IIRC there were about 5 options on seats from new.

How on earth do you decipher this and work out what a car has ? I thought there was normal or shoulder bolsters and then fully electric versions of those - which I guess is 4 already....

I do like to have a winter tyre set - so maybe if I find a car with 19's I live with and then save for some 20's

  9. are 19" wheels seen as ok in 981 circles or do I need to hold out for a car with 20's

I checked Ebay and 20's seems to be massively expensive 2nd hand...

    as do sports seats...

Looks to be a reasonable/good price for a private sale depending on full spec which i think maybe loaded ie pdk with sport chrono, PSE and PASM,  full leather ?, sports seats and I think Bose. not a very good ad but idea maybe to stimulate enquiries, if so would be better advertising it with details of the loaded spec.

I have messaged through AT and asked for ID number and some more pics

  11. Continuing my research and thought I'd start a new thread ...

I was convinced that I needed a 3.4, as I find the acceleration of my 987.1 2.7 to be underwhelming - certainly once its up to speed its fine and I have no complaints - it could just do with a bit more pizazz on the 0-60 front for me [YMMV!]
So given the numbers I'd plump for a 987.2S or my new preferred is a 981S?...

But then I binge watched YouTube and the 3.4 comes across as a bit lazy mid range? surely thats not right....? I know Porsche like long gearing but I then wondered if the 2.7, as you have to wind it up a bit more is maybe a more engaging drive when you want to press on in a safe spirited manner 😉

I know that folks will say you need to try them but these are not cars that are just sat in the 100's on the forecourts - so whilst I find some that I could travel and see I thought I'd ask...

For those that have tested and bought and know such things...

    >Does the 3.4 981 feel a lot quicker off the mark than a 2.7 981? {the 987.2 S I tried recently certainly felt way more sparky than my 2.7 .1}
    >And from my 7-8 week 981 searches it seems the 3.4's are bettered optioned? as a massive generalisation

    >something that has been bugging me - why do Caymans get more HP than BoXa's ? presumably its just software?
    >And finally 3.4 991's have more again - so can the parts be txfered and mapped to a 981 for some more whizz? I know this forum doesnt have many modding advocates but this would be intriguing to me.

    thanks in advance 🙂

    Oooo looks good!

is it high enough to drop the gear box?

yes it is 😉 - the problem is its a bit high and if you dont have a gearbox cradle for your normal jack its a 2 person job to hold it and stop it falling off!

  13. {and if I buy into @Davey P's club then heated seats will be less of a need 🤣}

I guess on the PASM part is at some point they would need refreshing and the age and price point means that I may be in that zone.... although a quick search suggests circa £100 extra per corner for PASM Bilsteins...

Ideally I'd like all the options and pay the non optioned car price...but in the real world.
    PDK, 3.4, heated seats
then extended leather, Better lights, climate, PASM
    Chrono and leccy seats

    and then I'll bottle it and buy a 2.9 987.2 😆

Curious as to why this would be a must?  Don't feel obliged to answer if it's due to haemorrhoids, etc.

When I changed from my 2.7 to my 3.4 last August it was the one item on the spec sheet that I did have pause for thought for.

But then I figured that I survived 30 years of sports cars without the notion of heated seats, and I'm glad to say that now we're in to Spring - I survived without !!  In fact, I can honestly say that I missed the heated seat for oooh... total of 20 mins over 5-6 months, I can live with that.

It did make me wonder though if Porsche actually went to the bother of making seats without the elements and if they are part of all the seats, i.e. could be enabled with coding and a couple of switches added.  Doesn't bother me either way, but if it's possible and relatively inexpensive I'd consider it just for having the option there.

Right choice IMHO regarding Sports Chrono. I didn't actively exclude cars which had it but I'm happy that the one I bought hasn't. Less to go wrong and I don't miss it for a second. The sole advantage for me was as a shortcut to selecting the harder PASM. I can cope with pressing Sports and then PASM 🙂

Mainly as I like to do very cold days roof down and my back is always cold so as it’s an option I look for.
if there was a car that had loads of special options but that was missing I’d still of course buy it.
PASM had not been on my list as I was worried about the cost if it went wrong and cars I’d be looking at would be 12 years old and 60k so may need a replacement

  15. How do you tell if it has a heated steering wheel ? - is this like the 987 in the fact it is a super rare option/hidden?

I tried to try a 2.7 Cayman today but the dealer wanted to do all the numbers and workings out before letting me drive - which was weird and I couldnt be arsed to be all Karen about it - plus it had been fiddled with a bit so wasnt the car for me....

I am less concerned about the heating thing now, but heated seats is a must and for me at least PDK and 3.4, less fussed about sports chrono too.

981 Boxster owners who had a 987 before how is the cabin wind noise on say a motorway comparing the 2?
I love my 987 but it can be a bit noisy - which is why I was considering the full metal roof version 😉 but then a roof down trip in mine today after not trying the Cayman made me think that was actually not an option after all and perhaps I do need the fabric bit after all !?

One is aircon, hotter or cooler. The other is climate control, pick your own temp.
The more you have the roof up, the more you might like climate.
Or, just learn how the window buttons work.

Not had a car without climate for many years #firstworldproblem, but it does seem to cheapen the deal for some I had my eye on...
    Option bingo = ruddy annoying
Especially as I *think that 987's came with it as standard across the range?

  17. Thanks Nobbie for starting this - my question is mentioned in here. I had found some short listed cars to perhaps enquire and then somehow I noticed that there is 2 types of heating controls...one from the 80's which has no set a temp and I'll stay there as best I can deal and then one which is dual zone
A quick google would suggest that its not a case of finding a front and a coder to get this working as the matrix/flaps are also in the mix....

So is the basic of basic heating ok for those that have it?
I am looking at Caymans too and not sure if this would be better or worse than a Boxster if it had the basic version.

Its a pain as I have moved away from having to have chrono, to now find another option to try and source...

At least the 981's, most come with heated seats - its just the Xenon, cruise, extended leather that seem to be very hit and miss...
