a heat gun/hair dryer makes the job a lot easier 😉

I had a heat gun, but it seemed to just break off in small bits...I was using the lowest setting too. Maybe a hairdyrer would be better thanks for suggesting will try on the bumper part I still need to do but rain stopped play.

    Sounds like a nightmare!

Mine has it from the door shuts forward. Was done many years ago and still is in as new condition. I assume the car has always been garaged.

yes my fingers are still hurting today... the bonnet was starting to look very rippled and overall shrunk.
The glue whilst being a real mess at least meant no clear coat delamination...

  3. Today I took off most of the PPF - I have the drivers door and the front bumper left.

I think it was from the dealer as the ppf was old and super scratched - letting the soon to be sold, little thing down.
The bonnet section split from the adhesive so literally left the entire thing looking like a sharp frost 😱

Thankfully HG sticker remover from wickes removed the super sticky residue and other than one very small chip - it is factory fresh

It was going to cost £700-£1000 locally - I can see why it was a really horrid job, with a combo of heatgun, steamer, plastic razor and the cleaner sticky stuff...

Conditioned all the leather interior ( seats, centre console sides, handbrake, door panels, dashboard, arm rest).

I tend to do it every 6 month which not only cleans it but moisturises it and keeps it looking good and gives it protection from heat / cold / sun

what do you use @Bike Loon as I am fettling mine for sale 😉

  5. @Daboy3000 I do a lot of my stuff on the driveway too - and I borrowed and then bought a decent gazebo to keep off the rain - its just saves the oh sh!t moment when the roof is in service mode with the battery off and you see the first drops of rain from the dark grey sky!

nope its an option to select on the build when new

so a quick autotrader glance at pics might not reveal the heated steering wheel is optioned? and there is a possibility that an owner might not know as its hidden? Or do we have stats that there are only 4 in the uk with this option ticked? 🤣

If you have it, the button is on the back of the steering wheel right at the bottom of the 6pm spoke

is there an option code that is copied in the handbook ? I'm thinking there could be a few that people just dont know its there... its not like a cruise stalk or another dash button....

was it part of a group of things typically - similar to a 'winter pack' ?

wife's Freelander has it and it is nice on a cold and wet day to take the chill off!

  8. MOT gained for another year - edit this was on the 8/1 first but forgot to post - no advisories - front brake disks are getting a little rusty on the inners - lasted pretty well - 4 years 20k miles - if used more often I suspect they would last longer...

  9. Yes I saw that after you signposted me to it. It looks lovely but is probably over my budget now. In fact it looks too good for me as I can’t keep it in a heated garage 🤗

looks like headlights can be improved with an HID conversion, which is what I did to our Freelander and it was very much improved

  10. I may have found one - not going to jinx it by sharing just yet...

its a 3.4 and ok miles.
Its PDK and has chrono, cruise  -  pretty sure it doesn't have PSE, doesnt have Xenons (as no chrome bumper nipples 🤣) , and no sports seats.

Will the standard headlights be woeful ?, my 987.1 has Xenon and they are pretty good of course not PDSL good...

Also its not stretching the budget so thats a plus

    Thanks, that's what I thought.

It doesn't look like Dampening Pads are included which another garage included.

Do I need them do you know?

    (sorry, I know nothing.)

I thought you can normally re-use the old ones?
disclaimer mine is a 987.1 so may not be the same? and I did mine in 2019 so I have forgotten what I did exactly

If I end up sticking 2 fingers up to my current job (painfully close to doing that currently!) mine will be for sale

    Eek

well as much as your car interests me greatly Im hoping you can work it out or find something that means your not forced into it

not quite for me - avoiding white 😉 but they are coming down... there are some nice 997.1 with engine rebuilds for the stretching budget
Also I dont go far so I struggle with having £x sat on the drive ... £15k>£25k I can probably be ok with 🙂
    maybe...

I have seen a couple of the better 987.2 drop their price so perhaps it is a case of just waiting 🙂

Sounds a familiar story - i did test drive a 996 911 that was up for £16k when i was looking, as i thought i wanted to scratch the 911 itch - but it just felt really old, a lot like the SLK i had sold and not something i would want to keep. I really wanted to love it because it was a '911', but even SWMBO told me i'd soon get bored trying to bring it up to scratch.

If i was going 911, it would have to be a 997 personally - but then you start reading the horror stories of the 997.1 and your back to 987.2s and the merry go round starts again :)

patience padawan as the great leader once said (not you @iborguk:)

the ones I look at mention engine rebuild or a bore scope report 🙂 and yes 997.1 997.2 is so much budget creep I'd need an old Aunt to leave me some £££ and that is not going to happen...

  15. my searching habits are quite routine now... saved 987.2 search on AT, saved search on Ebay, check Gumtree. Budget creep up to see 981 S's then look at F types. Then look back at the 987.2's that I have already discounted for one reason or another.
    Check more obscure sites.
Quietly resign myself not to buy anything and keep my 987.1 for a bit longer 🤣... In truth I'm waiting for the better spec .2 cars to drop a bit more or the 981s to come into budget stretch...

actually I also occasionally look at 997's just to see what is about in the mid 20k for a giggle - but then is a 2014 981s better than say a 05/06 997 C2 or as this is approx same kinda money

Looked the other day and a lot of the cars that were sa,e when I bought mine are still for sale, and not many have changed price either.

This one is a new entry, but no mention of miles so assume they are high. And an ugly after market headunit

    https://www.gumtree.com/p/porsche/2010-porsche-boxster-3.4-s-pdk/1444231299

saw that and pretty convinced its a scam... can only phone so I might see what happens... the other gumtree one [2.9] you posted is still available I think - but that was missing leather, cruise

I can only give an opinion on the Cayman, not a Boxster, but my Butt-o-meter tells me the 2.7 is definitely fast enough, so I wouldn't worry too much about it feeling too slow mate ☺️

thanks Davey - I have always felt my 987 2.7 could do with a bit more oomph - and the 3.4's I tried had that little extra spark
I wouldnt want to yearn for the bigger engine again - its stupid but annoying...

  18. new cars have been thin on the ground - wrong time of year etc...

But what I have been seeing is the 981 2.7 coming down to my 20ish budget creep ....

how does the 2.7 981 feel, as I have not tried one? in terms of butt-o-meter - does it feel slow or would it only if you also owned a 3.4.... the 3.4 987.2's Ive tried certainly have the little bit of extra I was after....

981S's with ok miles (=70k ish) seem to still be at the upper end of the 20's for a good spec/well looked after one

If I could drop onto a 987.2 3.4 for 17/18k with PDK, Xenon's, sport chrono, sports exhaust, full leather and cruise, in a dark colour with the carrera 2 wheels...  that has been looked after of course....

or I sit tight for a couple of years and wait for the 981 3.4 to get to mid to low 20's ??
