Hi Guys
Did the " How To: DRL Fog lights on a 986" today. A bit of mucking about but well worth doing. People expect to see them these days. Cars are starting to look like Xmas trees.
I had previously done the same mod on my 993, but on that car it is lot easier because it is a matter of wiring a different relay in and using a jumper.
All the best

Did a garage reseat your tyres or have you a trick to share? 😉
Hi,
Thats a good question! I watched this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lspxGs26BsA
I had previously tried to find these leaks by spraying soapy water all over the tyre but no go. Letting soapy water sit between the tyre and the rim revealed them in seconds. One was literally tiny, but over a month or so the tyre would loose a couple of PSI which was annoying. The other tyre has a bigger leak so in a week or so it would loose one or two PSI.

Hi
Located and fixed two tiny air leaks in my front tyres (one in each front wheel). Both were where the rim meets the tyre.
Hopefully no more pumping up each couple of weeks.

Hi
Resealed the passenger door membrane using butyl tape and fitted new dash speakers. I bought the printed adapters advertised on here recently. Perfect fit and dead simple.

Hi all,
-Headlight bulbs to the more powerful Philips racing vision
- sorted out the water ingress via the door seals
-removed the rubbish Sony stereo for a classic Alpine unit which pumps out more bass and better sound quality. Also tweeted the time correction for the speakers.
-added a Bluetooth FM hands free transmitter. Life changing compared to what I had before.
-upgrade the TB- undecided on 74mm or 82mm
Hi There
Sounds like good work. As mentioned be careful with the bulbs. I had a very burnt lens and ended up fitting HID projectors.
How did you sort out the water ingress via the door seals? It usually arrives via a breach in the membrane under the door card. I used buytl tape to seal mine this very morning.
I have a cigarette lighter bluetooth thing. Its great! Not as good as a bluetooth stereo, but an easy fix if you want to keep the original unit like I did.
That is a big jump in TB size. Read up on airflow velocity turbulence and general tuning etc. A lot of mods can actually end up reducing power or low end torque if not done correctly. Especially on a car such as this where it is reasonably well optimised as standard.
Any pictures of the car?

Hi
I tied my home made and slightly errant catalyst heat shields down with some stainless steel cable ties.

Hi
Thanks for that. Interesting. Actually readjusting the linkage at the rear of the car seems to have solved my particular problem for now.

I think you were over charged my friend, I bought a cup holder and the ashtray delete with rubber mat all in for £53 inc VAT, that was with my PCGB membership car discount. The ashtray was around £30 and the cupholder £23

£43 delivered. Lesson learned.
Hi, You say that but I do not think it is actually 30 quid. Maybe they had a special offer on. OPC Sidcup is 55 + VAT, and I can get it from Type 911 for 60, but i'm not sure Type 911 are including the bit of rubber that goes in the bottom. The OPC is for both parts.

Hi
Would that be in the frunk or the trunk?
Many thanks!

Did the ashtray delete thanks to Douglas Valley. Slightly wrong colour but it’ll do.
Hi
How much did they charge for the part?
Many thanks

Hi
Yes its code time. Also how sure are you that the fluid is at the correct level and not dirty? Is the fault intermittent or constant? Does the car drive normally despite the flashing or are there symptoms that suggest something is not right? The D&4 flashing is at the more serious end of lights flashing for a tiptronic box, and it should give a fault code.
Please let us know.

Hi
Took my indicator stalks apart and re-glued the broken tabs. Hopefully pop rivet gun will arrive tomorrow. Then will reseal and refit. Its taped together at the moment so is pretty much reassembled.

Hi
My car is a 2003 facelift 986 with the 490 option. Will it have the 4 or 6 channel amp in the frunk? And how to tell?
many Tks

Next to hide the wires and link into the cdr22 unit!
Hello!
Im thinking of ordering some of these. Wonder how hard it would be to wire into the CDR23?
Thanks

That looks really good Berni.
Did you use litronics or have you fitted projectors to your own headlights?
Hi fitted my own 3" projectors. Was a fair bit of work. Here is a pic........

Hi
I need to do the roof protector. And clean the rest of the car actually. I have been too busy with mechanical issues. I need to turn my attention outwards.
Something I have actually done is finish fitting my HID's and adjusting the beams last night.

Didn't work, well I buggered it up so off to a pro to fit now.
Hi
I know how you feel. I did the rear arch stone guards (after some paintwork) on my 993 and fekked them up. Having said that they are still on the car. Positioning is near perfect, but drying marks and air bubbles rather ruin the effect.

Hi
I fitted one of these cigarette lighter FM units today so I can stream music from the phone and make hands free calls. Works acceptably well and is a simple and cheap solution to the problem.

Hi
Agree dash replacement would be best, and if the 996 dash was the same price as a gauge then I would consider it.

Hi
I think the best matching ones come from the VDO range. I think the 5 bar versions are most appropriate. I wanted to do this but have done the console delete. I would like to find somewhere else to put the oil pressure.

What have YOU done to your 986 today ?

Hi
You are so lucky, my fob flashes happily but will not activate the car. I wonder if it is even for the right car. It could just be "worn out". They only have a finite life in terms of the code system apparently, and can also get irrevocably out of sync.
