Where did you buy the output seal from I'm gathering parts together to replace RMS and whilst it's out do the output seal, may change IMS cover cap seal if I can locate one, not bothering with the bearing on a 2008 model

    Hi

Go the output seal (and final drive seals) from Type911 who are local to me.

    Best of luck

  2. Hi

Fitted the Tip sump gasket, but something is not right there (see pic below), so destined to do that again (ugh!). Also replaced the two small rubber connecting pipes on the vacuum operated coolant valve on top of the gearbox. As a precaution.

So all in all not a great day,

  3. Hi

Today fitted a new serpentine belt. Put the tip gearbox on an engine stand, fitted new output seal, took sump off, wire brushed (some heavy rust on the sump). Ordered the wrong diff shaft seal so waiting on that. The diff oil was unexpectedly clean looking. Will turn the gearbox on its side and get the rest out tomorrow. Will fit new filter etc also.

It was at Kwikfit under their 8 track ups in 2 years Geocare deal it was on Hunter equipment.  I've used 3 of the 8 now in 12 months but with the knowledge I needed to do suspension work at some point I figured at least I'd get a report even if they are not the best at precise settings.  When I've worked through the suspension next year and fitted my 18" rims I'll get a full specialist track up done but in the meantime it serves a purpose and I don't have to worry about tracking costs if I do the jobs in several smaller batches to help cashflow...

    Hi

Interesting, I will look the Kwikfit option up. I think the Boxsters are not too difficult to set up (bolts allowing),  its not like the 993's that have the kinematic arm.

Had tracking done after recent front suspension work.  Quite impressed I'd put it back together with only 0° 16' toe in and camber was on minimum limit and now adjusted to max available on the standard turret holes, so hopefully even better than before.  Have a good reason for a drive this weekend so will find out soon enough.

    Hi

Interesting, I intend to set the suspension up myself on mine. I have already changed the rear legs, and will do the fronts soon.

I had read that it's hard to get any camber on the standard set up, but I only want it within standard spec anyways. I will be sure to rebolt the to turrets to get max neg in any case, just to make life easier.

How much were you charged and what equipment used?

    Tks

  6. Hi

Mileage was 130k, single row, bearing was good (but not perfect), could probably have just removed the external seal and left it where it was, but I ended up changing it. I have a couple of youtube videos of me testing it.

What was the condition of the old bearing, single or double row and mileage please?

    thanks

  7. Hi

Just had A-Plan insure my 993 and 986. They did a great job and liaised with the underwriters as my situation was not altogether straightforward. Something you cannot easily get with online or some other brokers.

    Really excellent rates also.

    Many thanks

  8. Hi

Finished painting my rear callipers black (PO had put a red one on lol) also have made up and fitted a couple of brake lines. Wanted to fit some new hoses, but am waiting for the little (but annoying) spring clips (that do not appear on the PET). May fit the IMS tonight if in the mood.

That wheel looks like it came out of a Toyota 🤔😮

    Hi

Its not a great shot, was taken with a super wide lens. This is the whole interior with same lens...... A non button version of this wheel can also be found on some RUF cars and also Astons. Toyota lol.

I do like the three spoke wheel in my 986 very much.

  10. Hi

Tapped my rear calliper bolt holes to clean the threads, especially the one where I drilled the bolt out, and also cleaned the bolt threads of any aluminium they collected on the way out. Also built the rear brakes back up and got one rear disc back on, run out is 0.08mm so for me that is acceptable. That is without the wheel nuts, just secured with the two countersunk screws. I might measure it with the nuts torqued up if I can work out an easy way to do it. These are the discs that came on the car, not new ones.

    Hi Bernie,

I see you used black hammerite on the rear disc hats.  Does the paint need to be high temperature paint as I have some standard hammerite left to paint the new front discs?

    Theo

    Hi Theo

I reasoned that the rear discs do not get so hot. Front discs do certainly get hot, so I would be less confident with those. I will probably go with it when I take the front discs off though. Its not like I track the car.

  12. Hi

I bought these things these brake pipe related items just this week. Just waiting on the pipe cutter.

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152559306190

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272939906684

One thing, when I was heating one of my brake unions earlier this week and the flexible pipe exploded. The pipe was not under pressure because it was open at the other end. The pipe flew off, but I was wise to it because I have had this happen before, so was positioned accordingly and had safety glasses on. If you ever have a cut down flexible pipe it can be very dangerous indeed because the metal end can be like a bullet.

    All the best

There is a Allen headed plug located towards the rear of the engine just underneath the air filter housing , undo it and then fit the temperature sender in its place  , be warned though access is awkward

    Hi

Thanks for that. I am used to a bit of awkwardness. Will have a look tomorrow.

  14. Hi

Hacksawed out the rest of the calliper bolt today. It put up a good fight I can tell you. I also ordered a M12 x 1.5 tap from Amazon, on prime next day delivery. I really hope the thread has survived well enough.

I also gave my rear disc hats their second coat of black hammerite, and put the parking brake back together having cleaned and freed it all off.

Have a couple of disc retaining screws to drill out. Ordered a bag of stainless ones from screwfix.

    All the best

Added a reversing camera - £15 from Amazon and pretty straight forward, used the number plate light screw to secure it, power feed off the reverse light/rear cluster and fed the cable through the bumper, trunk, clamshell and into the cabin, under centre console to the head unit. Just need to visit a car park with lines to align the camera head.

    Hi

Thats cool. I have a plain jane beeping ultrasonic set to go on. Will use the tow hook eye I think then put a symmetrical one the other side, then another painted to match the plate in the middle. Will see when the time comes.

Fitted an oil pressure gauge in the slot where the redundant CD holder was , not so keen on the white surround so I might change it to a chrome one

    OxZRUun.jpg

Hey! I am going to do this, but will use a 5 bar black VDO gauge and a 996 sender. Oil temp would be nice, but I am not sure what the right place to put the sender is.
