  1. If it locks and immediately unlocks, it is most likely a door microswitch.  An interior monitoring sensor fault will give you a double-beep, but will not stop the doors from locking.

Try the emergency locking procedure.  Turn the key in the door to the lock position and back to centre 3 times in quick succession.  The door should stay locked.  (Three key remote button presses can also do it).

  2. The brake switch is connected to the rear body control module, and is the same part for manuals and Tiptronics.  The switch has a normally open and a normally closed contact.  So a simple check that the brake lights are working isn't a good enough test.  A PIWIS tester is able to show the state of each contact, so if you can get it plugged in, that is your best bet.  The attached diagram is from PIWIS.  If you zoom right in, you can see wire colours if necessary.

I seem to recall on my 987C.1 that pressing the brake pedal while pressing the accelerator will cut engine power, so what you experianced might be normal.

Could the ignition switch cause this issue?

It can cause all sorts of gremlins, but I haven't heard of it doing what yours is.  I wouldn't rule it out though.  They aren't expensive to replace, and if it doesn't fix it you will have a spare....

  4. Hmm.  To be honest, I know less about PCM 4.0 than I do about previous versions, despite the fact I have got one.  I only use CarPlay with the TomTom app for navigation.

I believe you can update the PCM maps using Porsche Connect (assuming thatthe car is equipped with it).  If you want to read up a bit in advance, here are the Drivers manuals for my car (MY2018):  <718 Drivers Manuals>.  There is a document on updating the maps in the pack.

For retrofitting CarPlay, take a look at the 718 Forum: https://www.718forum.com/whats-new/

  5. I bought one of these footwell lighting kits, and fitted it to the car just after Christmas.  (How can you spec. adaptive cruise on a car, and not the interior light pack is a bit of a mystery, but it takes all sorts I guess).  No dramas with the fitting, but it made me realise I am getting too old for DIY-ing!

Mine is a 718S, but the wiring in the area of the LH fuse panel is identical.  I think I would have preferred to run the loom around the front of the footwell, rather than over the top, but it was too short for that.  I was a bit knackered by the time I got to putting it back together, and the loom ended up by being tacked in place by a couple of pieces of duct tape.  In retrospect, I should have taken a few photos, as the above photos don't show everything you need to know.  Getting the panel surrounding the fuse box off had me scratching my head, until I read the workshop manual.

The Porsche LEDs aren’t as bright as I was expecting, but they are a hell of lot better than nothing!  Maybe the Audi ones are brighter, but like I say I’m getting too old to be grovelling in the footwell shaving the brackets to suit.  Doing it in the winter doesn’t help either, although it is the time of year you get most benefit.

Overall though, I’m happy.  The price of the Porsche LEDs was a bit OTT, but that’s not Robin's fault.  I know how long these things take to knock up in small batches, so I think that it is good value for the parts he manufactures, the quality is very good, and I can't fault the service.  The Audi LED kit is much better value for someone with better agility than me though.

    “technology” (agm) and capacity (ah)

Those are the important bits entered during coding.  You have to enter a part number and serial number as well, but any string of digits of the correct length will work.

I believe original fitment to 981s and 982s are by Banner.

  7. Sorry I'm late to the party Tony.  You can't retrofit the navigation module like you could with PCM2.1.  They are different head units for nav and non-nav systems, so to retrofit nav you have to replace the whole head unit and fit the associated gubbins.  I assume that the Carplay adapters wouldn't work either, as I suspect they rely on the PCM's GPS antenna, etc.  You are probably best replacing the whole thing with a Carplay system.

  8. The seat belt buckle issue only relates to USA 986s.  On UK cars, there is no electrical connection between the set belt buckle switch and the airbag control unit.  If your car is a later model, and there is a problem with a seatbelt pretensioner, then this could cause an airbal light.  A Porsche specific scan tool should show what's causing the problem.

Personally would start with a diags read and a handover reset but as you say 2nd hand unit for 30 quid is probably worth “banking”.

Another vote from me on that.  The second hand unit will need coding to the car with a PIWIS, but as long as the module will communicate then it should be straightforward.

  10. I can't say for sure, but it would surprise me if the adaptation process was a one way street.

On electronic throttle 986s you don't have to disconnect the battery to reset it.  Just switch the ignotion on for 60 seconds, but don't touch the throttle pedal.  Then switch it off for at least 10 seconds, and it will reset it to factory settings.
