    Quick update on this.

Fitted a new NAPA alternator today, in a dark cramped garage. I took the seat out yesterday when it wasn't raining, which helped access.

Connected everything back up. No battery light. 12.4v and 14.6v running. Well happy and it feels great to fix something yourself

Thanks for all the advice 🙂

Really glad you got it sorted, nothing like a spot of DIY for some instant gratification.

Now you're up and running again maybe it's time to change the car, we do love to offer advice on car shopping also  :whistle1:

The little LiFePo4 will only last about 3 weeks - if the car isn't used - on the 996/986 before it's dead and I have a drama to get into the froot.

    20211125-181120.jpg

Is it available in other colours or just Guards Red  :thumbsup_anim:

Haven't you located your front & Rear boot manual releases?

For the froot just locate it behind the tow-hook pop-out.

Don’t use 3M green pads, they are too harsh. But cheap supermarket ones are fine, a bit of CIF helps to remove the bugs that hit you at over  a ton😁

Well duhhh, everyone knows CIF stands for 'Clean Insects From', these cleaning tips are really helpful :thumbsup_anim:

I think you simply buy a pair of Michelins from wherever and send them a copy of the receipt for the £100 in my case to be sent, so the offer is complimentary..

    I got that mate :)

Thanks for the post. Merry Christmas  :thumbsup_anim:

If you are seeing a charging voltage, then it's probably just an electrical gremlin that a dealer may be able to quickly fix? I've heard that changing a battery on a Porsche sometimes does screwy things like this?

Earthing issues are not uncommon and lead to all sorts of queer anomalies.

But I strongly suspect this isn't an Earthing issue

Doesn't sound like a very good company if they do not even have a basic multimeter to check if the battery they are fitting is getting a charge.

Is it even a company? If so, that is shockingly bad

I've heard of worse companies,  at least they came back out.

Also what was their remit, if 'please replace my battery' then it's excellent service.

If 'please come and diagnose an electrical issue with my car then replace the battery after you've cured any problems' then there's room for improvement.

For the Boss removal I use a diamond burr done 3 or 4 of these now and as for the fillings didn’t take more than a couple of mins to vac up.

Let me guess, it wasn't your car

I believe the easiest way to keep something clean is not to let it get dirty in the first place.

When I done mine I also utilised the damp paper trick whereby you place a dampened piece of paper (so it moulds into place) anywhere you want to keep clean or where detritus might gather.

Took less than 10 sec to clean plus there's no vac to get or put away AND I didn't have the worry of loads of metal filings buried in carpet or nooks & crannies that the vac couldn't lift, like your lungs fer instance

Reminds me of my Engineering Manager days. You asked one of the apprentices to remove a cover or device and off he went to get a cordless drill, bit holder and invariably the incorrect bit. It was inconceivable he would carry a hand-tool in one of his many pockets. I always gave them one opportunity before removing said item myself with the terminal screwdriver I always had on me.

I'm all for power-tools but sometimes it is ultimately faster with a hand-tool, at least in my experience, plus I don't have a diamond burr

  8. Just be careful as the cheapest retailer they link to is BlackCircles and they work out £40 (after applying the offer discount) more expensive than the Michelins I bought recently, and I didn't even apply the BOGOF offer I received  🤯

    Bah Humbug

These look excellent value, would be difficult to go past them IMHO.

I am on record on here as stating an under-drive pulley is in the top five modifications on a Boxster.

In my opinion if you can't notice the difference after fitting you probably shouldn't be driving a sports car.

Also I wouldn't recommend removing the ALLOY boss with a grinder, WTF is it with power tools, it would be like using a sledge hammer to crack a nut and using a hack-saw blade won't plaster the car interior with filings.

Let us know how you get on  :thumbsup_anim:

Same. Heated seats, heated steering wheel all the way.

The weight difference is not really that relevant unless you are in a race series.

    Oh contraire,,,,,,

If you turn the heated steering wheel and seats up full you could sweat down to racing weight.

Of course it helps if you have some extra kg's to lose in the first place ;)

I sourced one of these for my son recently. mk2.5 1.8 They do seem prone to rust though!

Seems the Italian's have cured tin-worm and the Japanese have a little to learn.

I could have lived without A/C on our Boxster no problem as ours was a high days and holidays car and I live in the UK (NI) where global warming hasn't kicked in yet.

If you seen the amount of cr*p that's removed when A/C is removed  :(

It's difficult enough to find a Boxster without A/C partly due to dealers and motoring journalists claiming it is an absolute necessity for resale, a bit like FULL Service History when we all know it's often worthless.

Same here - my grandfather was a British Leyland man, my dad was a "anything but Ford" man, so i've never really got the fast ford of the 70's thing myself. My dad went through a weird period of getting Citroen BX's - luckily that didn't rub off either.

I don't remember any of the family having anything posh or fast when i was a kid - probably why i struggle to settle on a car myself :)

My dad's mate had a Triumph Dolmite Sprint and I remember thinking it was the mutts nutts before I  got a spin in it and returning like I'd won the pools after  :)

My mum nearly wasn't  going to let me go for a skelp in it as it didn't have seat belts in the back and I was only about 6 years old

I used to like my Fords:

3x Sierra XR4x4s in a row, then a Carlton GSi, then a 4WD Sierra Cosworth, then a Scooby WRX

The Ford 4WD was superb compared to the Subaru, which had far too much understeer, the Fords would always tend to bit of useful oversteer if pushed really hard.

I loved my grey '86 Fiesta XR2 but even when a thoroughly refurbished example showed up at the start of lock-down for £10k we baulked even though hindsight would suggest it was a fair bet.

I just can't get my head around fekkin' eijits paying more than they cost new for normal everyday cars that were in no short supply back in the day.

I also reckon there will be fewer eijits about and the Fast-Ford price premium bubble will deflate pro-rata.

    Because they sell nostalgia.

    Doesn't explain the marque difference.

My Pop was a British Leyland man, one uncle was a Hillman aficionado, another uncle swore by and sometimes at his Toyota's but my favourite uncle was a Porsche man.

My point is none of them would tank you for a FORD let alone pay a premium for one. There is a lot of time dedicated on FB as to why the price differential but I'm unconvinced.

I bet they start getting cheaper though with current events.

It was cheapened the day it was put on Metros, Maestros and Montegos.

I loved my black MG Metro in 1986, was the pick of my mates cars by a fair margin and one of those was a VW Golf, which was yellow!

Had a 1.6 Maestro in metallic gold with chocolate brown interior as a company car in 1990. Done a fair few miles in that car and it never failed. Came with a Maxol Fuel Card though so that softened the blow.

My Pop's first brand new car was a 1984 metallic gold 1.3 Montego with a chocolate brown interior and a chocolate gearbox, bizarrely the gearbox was stamped as a VW part. Learnt to drive in that car and was a much better car than a mates dad's Ford Escort.

Which amazes me with how much old Ford's now sell for, they were shyate back in the day so difficult to see how they've improved to warrant the asking prices.

I know some looking who could be interested.  How much does he want for it?

He's trading it in for a BMW iX3 now I believe.

As to how much, to the best of my knowledge it was on PCP so future was guaranteed but I don't know how much it was guaranteed for.

Cheapening the MG brand, I don’t even think Gerald Ratner could do that 😂

I think he missed the irony in his statement. It's along similar lines to the derisory trade in they offer for your car when they currently have an almost identical (or inferior) specced car THEY are selling for 50% or £5,000 more. I have to say I  have zero sympathy for the knuts as they are irony impaired  :)

Similar stylee to the whole Action Man versus the Action Force POS you're foisting on your poor wee lad for Christmas,  I  bet poor old Santa will get the blame for that debacle

    I called our local MG Dealer last week to see if they recognised 'MG Car Club Members' and 'MG Owners Club' on the MG Affinity scheme (still waiting for an answer). While I was on I asked about this car;

    https://www.usedcarsni.com/326880872

    As you can see it isn't at all obvious it has 3,500 miles on it and at £33,000 you could buy a brand spanker on the Affinity Scheme any colour you like and a type II cable included. When I pointed this out and mentioned there are SEVEN cars almost identical to his for LESS than £30,000 on AutoTrader he said they were simply cheapening the brand, fer instance,,,,,,,, (n.b. there are SIX cars cheaper than this one!);

     https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202310062740887?advertising-location=at_cars&aggregatedTrim=XPOWER&atmobcid=soc5&fromsra&make=MG&model=MG4&sort=price-asc

I've been saying it for ages now, there are fewer and fewer fcukwits running around with more money than sense and there are only so many people that don't have to pay for their cars, Kents 😜

On another note, my mate called on Saturday for a chin-wag and I asked him how his Nissan Ariya was going. Turned out just before he was due to collect it the Nissan salesman contacted him to say his VW iD3 had devalued so much they were no longer able to accept it as a trade in. After an awkward conversation he was put through to the sales manager who just talked nonsense before saying they were no longer accepting EV's as trade ins. The irony of my mate having an EV on order with them seemed to be lost on them

My prediction is 'you ain't seen nuthin yet',,,,,,,,,,

Buy what you like. You decide what makes a tyre your choice

I am a Michelin fan for performance tyres.

have used continentals as well. No issue there.

Generally not a Pirelli fan but that’s me.

Michelin for me as first choice as well.

Our Boxster was on worn 17" Continental's which we changed for new 18" Michelins and the ride was noticeably improved.

Used to run our Primera saloon on Pirelli's before changing to Michelin, we didn't consider changing back.
