With the typical £5k dealer premium, £31k would seem about right for anyone wanting to sell/trade in a 718.

Clean, FSH early 781 cars can now be found advertised for under £30k and 981 cars for under £20k and as EXY predicts, normality is returning. The country is awash with Boxsters and Caymans for sale at over-inflated prices and I can see a lot of dealers getting burnt with stock they have paid too much for.

I'm watching Tesla's ATM and the trade are getting burnt Big-Time with 18 month old cars for sale for £6k MORE than a brand new available immediately from the manufacturer vehicle.

There are only so many fekwits with more money than sense running around and they are becoming rarer by the day, IMHO of course  :)

Have done both with mine not sure if the benefits are totally tangible smiles per bucks the sprint booster is a defo, had  to lower the response down in mine, pulling out of well recognised  junctions to myself and applying the original amount of throttle. Found myself wheel spinning , like I’d been given a fictitious 100 bhp!!!

I suppose for truly intangible benefits you would have to brace yourself and name it with a 'Bally' in there somewhere

Fitted a sprint booster. I had a lot of trouble getting the throttle pedal connector off so in the end I undid the pedal from the floor (only one phillips screw) which gave better access. I still broke the tab on the connector but it eventually came off.

It makes an immense difference to the throttle response, especially in the initial movement range. The car felt immediately more perky in Sport mode and positively abrupt in Race mode.

Many smiles on the way to Porsche Chester, with roof down, to sign up to the Classic Register.

I would imagine fitting an 'Under Drive Pulley' would sharpen it up even further.

I would go with a cheap new one in the car and the old one in the shed.  If you have to use it then you don’t want to find it’s unusable on the hard shoulder of the motorway at 3 in the morning.

I've used it on a wheelbarrow and my Pop's ride on lawnmower to cure slow punctures and deteriorating (cracked) carcass, thankfully didn't nerd it when either was on the motorway  :)

  7. I disagree with all of the previous posts, DO NOT send it back, tell them to collect it, at their cost.

If you weren't replacing it for aesthetic reasons I could understand a bit of indecision BUT you are replacing for aesthetic reasons and that part is aesthetically compromised.

I suspect their attitude is them playing mind games. So your answer is,,,,"YES it really is a problem, for you"  ;)

Having said all that I'm willing to bet those marks would blend in with a touch of plastic dressing which is surprising as we usually recommend T-Cut for irreparable damage

I thought it was only a chip repair? In which case I don't think I would put it through the insurers to avoid any misunderstandings!

Certainly reads as a chip repair in which case MOST would stump up the repair cost themselves.

I'm not getting at the OP but the myriad owners who think it's a FREE repair.

I've said it before, if you give something to most people for free they do not attribute any value to it BUT the truth is someone is paying for it, it was ever thus.

I have told the story before of the scumbag who was in cahoots with a windscreen repairer and he made sure he got his insurance discount via a fraudulent windscreen repair claim, every year!

There's always one, at least until there's more than one :(

its a weird one from me... while i'd love a 987, i can't ever see myself in a 981. electric steering i could live with (though would prefer hydraulic - the steering on my 986 is great) but I don't like the design language of a 981 particularly, and would never consider a 4 cylinder boxster. and i dont say 'never' very often!

You've said 'never' twice in one post/sentence, how often is that

Very possibly until I saw the above post and thought ‘that just about sums up a £15k 550’ 🤣

    What say you @EXY 😁

I agree YOU are an imbecile, but then I'm an 'utter imbecile' so what do I know.

Sounds like sage advice to me, when you look at the costs involved it gets more difficult to justify the older car over the shinier newer version.

  12. There was a company refurbishing them a while back.

IIRC they were almost £90 against £130 for a genuine unit.

I tried to contact them circa. 2009 ish but I think they had ceased trading by then, perhaps it wasn't as easy as they first thought.

Personally I wouldn't be bothered faffing about, and I didn't have any problems with door clips or the membrane but lots do, perhaps they don't possess my superior spannering skills

I hung onto the old unit for a while just in case it would be salvageable/useful but the only thing that was used was the little plastic coloured end stop which I generously donated to another BoXa. member.

Then again, pay enough money and you could get whatever you want.

GT silver could be had as PTS.

987 airbox from factory on the 550 is brilliant though, and a PITA to retrofit to a non-550.

    That's my understanding.

Isn't the leather hue Colour to Sample.

To put in Porsche language, a 22B would be a GT3 to the 911 range or a GT4 to the Cayman, not just an up spec'd 986 from the regular options list.  But I do agree ¼ million quid for a scooby!!!  May be a Gp A Prodrive rally car.  A Prodrive P1 even with reasonable use will fetch stupid money but they were pretty special like the 22B but only 20% of the figure put on that 22B.  Both were around twice the price of the regular car and very limited in volume when they were new.  A Scooby comparison for the 550 might might be an RB5 or a Catalunya.  They are nicely spec'd cars and so command a small price premium but 'go' much the same as a standard one.

Anyway, I am curious as to why you find it difficult to understand me @EXY?  We've argued with each other from the same side more than once. 😕

Maybe I find it difficult to understand you because you are agreeing with me.

Word on the street is I'm not just an imbecile but an "utter imbecile"  ;)

I look on the Boxster 550 in the same way as the Cortina Crusader (same goes for a 987.1 SE or 987.2 Black Edition).  An end of line model with the accessory book thrown at it, just to sell the last few cars before the new model is released.  I'd have one, but I'd be comparing it against the newer replacement for value for money.

They're only limited by either the number of shells they need to sell, or how many they think the market can stand.

Interesting, way way back in the day (circa 1990) when I was a member of The Capri Club there was an article in their newsletter regarding the Capri 280 Brooklands.

Apparently FORD didn't have enough interior components to complete them so it was in some cases left to the dealers to fit door cards, parcel shelves and that sort of thing.

    @EXY your an imbecile

Actually if you look at the logic you applied above, I’m the imbecile 🤣

August 21’ I ordered a new Macan MY23 GTS, threw all the options at it I wanted and yes it cost a little more than your Tuscon…. Will it do anything better than your car, fractionally, maybe the pace, will it cost double to service it, VEL it, insure it, run it…. Undoubtedly yes… so yes I’m a fool who parted with his money in September this year!!!!

Now guess what we went to look at as a replacement for the wife’s 1 series… yes a Tuscon 😁

That's "utter imbecile" I will have you know :nonono:

Hmmmm, it appears I'm not as green as I'm cabbage looking, who'd have thought it

Now as a special favour to you Gaz I will swap our Tucson for your Macan and let's not be vulgar by discussing money.

Well I own a super rare, one off, really unique, single year 986 with more power, more engines, bigger pistons, funny seats, a bonkers shifter and big yellow lights on the front.

Every single panel has been artisan patina’d.

The brake calipers are custom hot road salt finished and there’s no “standing around corrosion” on the disks.

If I get Timpsons to engrave a big dog tag with:

    “Boxster RSR 1 of 1”

and stick it on the dashboard how much do you think it’ll be worth?

    To a collector obvs.

It is what it is worth to you that counts, obvs  ;)

Worth is a sliding scale where the individual determines the pivot point.

P.S. does it still have my wheels on it?
