My iX3 was made in a Chinese factory and the build quality is perfect imho.
China has been making cars and parts for the big manufacturers for years so I reckon they will have the skills and tooling to make some quality products now.
I thought that those MG things would be cr*p, but having seen a few in the flesh I think they are better than you expect.

I agree on the quality, I was thinking more along the lines of supporting China's economy.

Can't help thinking we have dug a hole for ourselves by becoming a nation of coffee shops and shopping malls which are in steady decline.

Nearly as quick as the deprecation then 😬

Seriously though, that's good stats compared to othe EVs twice the price

LoL remember the title of this thread  ;)

To be fair the projected depreciation is reckoned to be over 50% for the first three years, but in all honesty how could you ever believe or trust their figures.

Don't forget the stats include real world 200 mile range AND a 7 year warranty but again to be fair there are lots of parts/components drop out of warranty before the 7 years are up, a bit like KIA in that respect.

'My Ride' used to have our Leaf described as 'Fridge' simply because I seen it as an appliance

Wow, look at those big meaty brake calipers….

But they are 'ORANGE' how fruity is that

If I did get one I would probably remove the caliper covers and X-Power badge to make a sleeper.

Or a wolf in sheep's clothing before you say it is so boring it would put you to 😴

My suspicion is the Chinese now will be like the Koreans 20 years ago and the Japanese 40 years ago. Regarded with great suspicion/ laughed at by many, colourful reputation from those that buy (yes it's cheap and has a great spec, but there are serious quality issues and no spare parts)... but eventually improving and coming to dominate as they realise what the European market really wants, at a price that the European brands can't match.

I reckon you are on the button there Meno.

Talking to an MOT tester recently and he reckoned that while FIAT, Renault, Citroën & Peugeot still have their first MOT (4 years in NI) problems with suspension and electrical MG don't have a trend yet although to be fair they don't see as many.

I'm still not fully complacent with buying a Chinese car, same goes for Tesla's as the M3 comes from China 🤔

I came into a bit of money recently (redundancy) which it just so happened coincided with the launch of the MG4 X-Power so I called into my local MG dealer late July and explained that I would be in a position to buy a car immediately. Dealer seemed quite keen and mentioned they have a MG4 Extended Range coming in in the first week of August IIRC. I said I would love to test drive it and if it was as quick as it looked on paper that would be the car for me and if not then the X-Power would be.

As I mentioned that was the first week in August, haven't heard a tap since but did notice the same dealer (different branch) had a brand new MG4 in white, which is my preferred colour, they are obviously still getting enough to do them and have more customers than cars it seems as the white one has dropped off Auto-Trader.

Dealers, you couldn't love the kents, even if you reared them :(

Cool changes over time. A few years ago you needed asymmetrical hair & statement glasses.

I've never had any of these qualities... but I do drive a Porsche.

Not sure that makes you cool either these days, but who gives a flying.... 🤣

Interesting, the OP was regarding price but it would seem that perhaps Porsche isn't the cool choice it once was.

I spent about 30 mins looking at both cars as the GTS ticked all my wishes except paint and lights...not once was I approached by a condescending salesman, so they must still be counting their pennies from the last 7 months of commission.

No, I just need a buyer who agrees with my valuation and sees the value in such a lightly used car.

Like I've said I'm not a motivated seller,  I don't need to sell just always get itchy feet for something new every 12 months or so.

Anyway, like I've also said, we can all have our opinions. No one knows the future.

We sold our 986 in 2018 for a smidge under £10k which was exceptionally strong money at the time.

I lost count of the "what will you take cash' offers etc.

Ultimately it sold to the first fella that actually took the time to view it and this was despite the fact he really wanted a 996TT.

When he paid for it (by cheque) his wife accompanied him and I offered to let her see the car, she thought it was new.

It sat in our garage for some time after the cheque cleared. Was probably close to an ideal sale and he only lives a couple of hundred yards away so I see him occasionally and he is still happy as a clam.

So it is entirely possible your buyer is out there GLWTS  :)

Couldn’t get past first ten seconds.

Who knew that most cars are depreciating assets.

I didn't make it past the first three minutes.

However there is a big difference between getting a haircut (his haircut was hilarious) and getting your head chopped off depreciation wise.

Our McCann has surround cameras which are bloody fantastic. There are four cameras, rear, front and in both wing mirrors. Software blends the picture together so that you have a view as if you are looking down from above the car. Great when lining up between lines in a car park. Wish the 718 could have that, but no, I just have front and rear beep-beeps.

Is that what you call an Irish Cayenne :)

That’s why you are supposed to use the battery positive and a chassis earth for charging or jumping cars equipped with these battery sensors  so they can keep track of what’s gone in and what’s come out of the battery

Interesting, I usually advise to use a chassis earthing point to ensure explosive gasses don't ignite with a spark when removing the charging leads.

I understand the sensing circuit being bypassed by direct connection to the battery negative post but isn't there a dedicated earthing post for charging in this case?

I remember the scary stories from when I had the ferrari - discs and pads (Ceramic) back then in 05/06 were 18k a set of 4! - that will teach you to lift and coast!!!!!

When I was learning to drive my Pop taught me to lift & coast as opposed to going down the gears, brakes are cheaper to replace than a clutch.

Then again I bet clutches are not cheap in a Ferrari either

Either way, brakes are not a £6k job...and there are now also service plans available for Macan's which help reduce/spread the costs. I'm not saying these are cheap cars to run but if you've spent the money on a new GTS then you can probably afford to run it...

I think you got the wrong end of the stick.

Block Exemption Rule/Regulation AFAIK means providing you use OEM (or better) quality parts and have them fitted following manufacturers recommended service intervals by a VAT registered garage your manufacturers warranty remains valid. As Meno says it is under revision ATM so buyer beware.

There are other stipulations such as the manufacturer must make special tools/software/service information available for reasonable cost, mind you their idea of reasonable is debatable

That's all off the top of my head and I haven't looked closely at it in well over 20 years so take my ramblings with a pinch of salt.

Something tells me Porsche warranty was/is actually TWO years with the third year deleteable for a discount, not sure how third year shenanigans stands with BER.

But we digress I agree fully with what @CMA says, you sign up to their T&C's so must abide by them.

Out of curiosity how much is it to replace PCCB Brakes on a Macan? can't see you having much, if any, change from £6k

what about right to repair though? is that not a thing in the UK?

i.e. ability to get serviced/work done by anyone AS LONG as OEM parts and procedures followed...

I know it as, Block Exemption Regulation.

But as CMA says, you pays your money and sign on the dotted line.

Sounds like the release solenoid is getting tired. Replaced mine for same reason 2-years ago and frunk has been operating real well after that.

This part is the actual solenoid sitting in the front cornes of the frunk and the 'pigtail' that pulls the latch open. Not expensive part from Porsche - maybe like 75€ and easy to change as DYI.

    I'm with Mr. P.

Had an issue a few years back with a boiler fuel solenoid, tested fine with a steel core, coil checker and DMM but continuously dropping out, new one had a much stronger pull and more meaty sounding operation.

Was a bit less than £64 though  :(

When you do get them off, throw them in the bin, utterly pointless in this day and age. They'll steal the car by burglary if they're that keen.

    Wot'e said ^^^^^^

Mind you I've always sold the old sets on eBay, just make sure you include the key though as punters get quite shirty about such matters.

It seems hard enough to enjoy a car on today's roads. Not sure I'd get much more enjoyment from a bike.

Ain't that the truth, I don't think I've had a single journey in months that some utter ball-bag does something stupid. Jumping lights has become so prevalent I now treat traffic-light controlled junctions just like a standard give-way junction :(

Not sure what your scooter usage looks like but have you looked at e-bikes, de-restricted they are a complete hoot  :)
