To be fair to the Porsche parts specialists like D911, T911, Frazerpart etc. for non-Porsche branded parts they are competitive and are particularly useful where the OE supplier to Porsche is known and they stock that supplier's parts. It is the Porsche specific parts that are cheapest (or should I say lowest priced) from an OPC.

I tend to buy parts that are not original Porsche but the OEM equivalent from them (and Autodoc). The original Porsche stuff I always get from Porsche as it does tend to work out better.

Or when I'm lazy and just want the stuff shipped straight to me..

MOT this morning. Pass with no advisories. Happy days. That is the cars 12th in a row clean sheet with no advisories. So pleased to keep that up. Last 2 in my ownership. 🤙🏻

Blast around before for emissions and a run out after. Roads around here are a bit flooded in areas, so the underneath has had a wash.

Swapped the N/S radiator.

Replacement Mahle / Beru CR383000S.

OE brand, but economy version - the OE has metallic reinforcements in the pipes.

I cheated, didn’t drain the system just disconnected the hoses to this radiator.

Reckon I lost about 2.5 litres of coolant.

It’s not all back together properly, still have the breather pipe clamp to refit, support brackets, etc.

Hoping for a straightforward bleed…

Re-fitted the carpets after drying them out for nearly a week. Fitted the centre consul., other bits of interior trim and the drivers seat. Fitted a new hood support cable that just arrived from D911. Cleaned all the roof rubbers and other accessible roof related items ready to clean, recolour and reproof the roof over the weekend. Pulled out the seatbelts which were covered in mould from sitting unused for a year. Washed them down with a strong soapy solution with a bit of disinfectant in it. You wouldn’t believe how filthy the water was! Fitted the newly acquired wheels to the rear to see how they look on the car. Cleaned up the rear badging which was disgusting, years of ground in dirt joining the letters together!

Make sure the seat belts are fully dry before allowing them to retract.  It can play havoc with the intertia reel if it gets damp.

Fitted a cloths peg on the belts to stop them retracting. They are drying stretched out over the windows.

Design 911 have now had 12 days since I paid them for my order. To be fair there were two items not in stock (why bother listing things that are not in stock for sale and risk having irate customers?) but on the 2nd of Feb they sent an email with an order update - everything is there and has been shipped. Tracking number and everything. Hooray, right? No, afraid not. Dead silence and then on the 7th of Feb another "update". All of a sudden two items that had already been "shipped" are now not in stock and they're waiting for stock. Never mind that one of the two 5-litre Mobil 1 oils that were in stock and ready to ship when I bought on the 31st, have now suddenly disappeared and they're waiting for it. Obviously that 5-litre oil has now been taken out of my stuff that were ready to go, and has been allocated to a different customer and I can go whistle Dixie.

To say I am cheesed off is a bit of an understatement. I think I'll give them a call tomorrow and tell them to refund me and I'll go elsewhere. I don't need the aggravation of dealing with them any further.

I have no issue if stuff is not in stock and you tell me about it, but to say that something has shipped and then a week later it's all of a sudden awaiting stock is just p1ss-poor service to be honest. I'd rather go to the OPC just down the road from me and get it all from them.

On a more positive note, I took the car for a drive out to Beachyhead this morning early. Pouring rain so I didn't go fast- good thing too because there was a pony standing on the road and I don't fancy wearing one as a hat thanks very much - but the car ran beautifully. Now the sun is out here so I may give it a good wash as a reward :)

How is the new suspension?

That's going to be a really good example once you have it all sorted.

Thank you. I have put a a lot of work into this so far.
fill the brake system up with high temperature fluid and bleed brakes tomorrow. Repaired various brackets and actuating arms for the Littronic leveling system today. Should receive all the immobilizer and other bits and pieces on Tuesday or Wednesday latest so will then be up for a drive!

Finished refitting a new rad, 2 refurbished radiator support brackets;

Front end is now about ready to remount the bumper.

Ive added just nearly 2.5L coolant to the reservoir, about the same as I took out, so fingers crossed.

Also finished rebuilding these Brembos, going to refit with Goodridge braided hoses. Need some new short pipes first though.

Also started rubbing down some centre caps, ready for paint to match gold powder coated wheels.

Hoping to make more progress over the next week or so, MoT due early next month.

I made up those short pipe’s with a simple kit and the correct materials easily available.

Remember to transfer the support collars to the short pipes from the old ones if you make them, so they retain correctly on the brackets off the upright, otherwise about £70 for a set of 4 from Porsche, correct shape and ready to go with all the bits you need.

I saved all the collars and fitments, cleaned them all up and reused them. 👍

Just cancelled my order for service parts and oil etc with Design 911. Got tired of being messed around by them.

I ordered on the 31st of January. They didn't have everything in stock so I have to wait a bit. That's cool. I don't mind waiting a few days - saves me on delivery because I ordered more than £200 worth of stuff. I was under £200 but I ordered 100 pairs of nitrile gloves - not that I need it but it's always handy to have - and it bumps the order over £200 so I get free delivery.

Then on the 2nd of Feb I get the news that it's all on the way. Great stuff. I'm looking forward to servicing the car over the past weekend.

No movement on the order. I can see that it is somewhere in Stansted and marked as shipment information received. This means it has not yet been collected by DHL - right? No worries. I am sure it will start updating once it's on the way. Nothing doing.  On the 7th I send D911 an email asking them to give DHL a little nudge as it has now been 5 days since the order was "shipped" and it doesn't seem to have been picked up or anything.

On the 9th I get an "order update" from Design 911 to say that there are two items on my order that are out of stock and they're waiting for these to come in before dispatching. So, nothing has been shipped?? Getting slightly annoyed now but I figure it's probably just an admin thing. Someone sent the wrong email on the 2nd or something. No worries. I'm a patient person and in any case I work during the week so no harm done if I have to wait a bit for the stuff to come in over the weekend or next week or whatever. I'm keeping my cool. It's just 5 litres of oil and the nitrile gloves so that shouldn't take too long, right?

I get a response this morning to the email I sent yesterday telling me that the c*ck-up was DHL mis-sorting my order and sending it to another customer. They are in the process of getting it returned and will send my stuff as soon as they can. Somewhat mollified by this I try my best to understand - after all it's not the fault of the poor woman who has to writes me the email to explain. However my patience is now wearing thin so if it's not here by Friday then they can cancel.

About 40 minutes after her email I get another "update". Now, we're waiting for 2 (!) x 5 litres oil..  There was one and we were waiting for another but now it seems the one that was there and ready to dispatch has also disappeared. Not only that but the oil filter wrench ahs also disappeared. So, stuff that was there ready to go out the door is being taken from this order to fulfil other orders. I get it. I really do. They have a business to run and it's not always easy.

The clincher for me was the comment that "We allocate stock on a first come first served basis". Really? When I have been waiting since 31st of Jan and things are clearly being removed from my order to fulfil others? Is that because the poor sods who are now getting the stuff has been waiting since before the 31st??

Not only that but blaming DHL for mis-sorting when the stuff has never even been collected?

I have had enough by this stage and called them to cancel. Decide I'll go to Porsche Mid-Sussex and get the stuff from them. Idly looking on AUTODOC and guess what? The whole order (no nitrile gloves because screw it) - is more than £100 cheaper... and I guess it will be with me quicker than the order from Design911.
Really disappointed with them to be honest. I try to treat people right and support businesses but please don't mess me around.

That is disappointing. As I said previously, I have not had any problem with them at all. I think you must’ve been very unlucky on several points. The guys i dealt with were very knowledgeable, polite, and I always had deliveries within two days max.

Very disappointing indeed. But on the bright side I now paid £84 for 10 litres of Mobil 1 with AUTODOC (and if I had used their little app it would have cost me £72). That is something for which I am willing to wait a week or two. And just to add insult to injury my local OPC wanted £114 for a 5 litre container of the exact same oil...

Ask the OPC for a price for enough coolant for the car. Based on the quote I got for my 996, it will make the oil seem like a bargain!

As it's been such a lovely day, time for the roof down and a run out on the roads of North Kent. Very enjoyable and hopefully, the weather stays this good for the weekend!

Do you have a link for mobil 1 from Autodoc? That seems a very good price.

Changed brake fluid for some high temp racing type fluid. Fitted wheels and as I haven't got the immobiliser back yet, (now in the post) Towed it out the garage with a 65 Land Rover and temporary put it in the open garage.

Then put Landy on the ramp and renewed all brake shoes, wheel cylinders and a few brake pipes, so easy!

All the parts for the Landy including new springs and 2l of brake fluid......£120.00!

She lives!
