Stuart21UK
I took to utilising some 3M wrap that @Johnsyn gave me at one of our meetings...his intention was to use it to wrap his Spyder in a matt silver...he gave me a portion about 200 mm square and I used about 50% of it (wrappign the sides twice as it didnt come out as I'd like the first time) the 981 key before taking apart the sides after removal (youtube link at the bottom of the page) wrapping the sides (two attempts on both to get it ok, having never wrapped anything before) once trimmed then the back portion all the parts lined up the sides put back on back put back on battery cover wrapped all done side by side the wrapped one and the spare I'll wait to see how hard wearing it is, particulalry as the platic part of the key does lock into the ignotion.... ...a guide to taking the key apart is below (really easy)
PEZ 9815
Tidy job, looks really good.
Jon61
That does look good. There's a Porsche document that describes taking these keys apart, and warns that they can break if it's done several times. I've considered painting mine - I think I'd definitely do it if my car was a plain colour like red or yellow. http://www.suncoastparts.com/pdf/PAINTEDKEY.pdf
Greenman
Very nice but I just paid £7 for two sets of colour coordinated replacement sides from eBay. They fit perfectly.

Andy Mac
That is nice work @boxsternoob56 ! I also went cheapy Chinese version - £ 3.85 - from Ebay took a few weeks to arrive and they sent the wrong colour (genius)... but even on the grottier second key it looks alright. Fits ok (not 100% like oem porsche) but for the money it's a bit of fun. I've ordered a yellowy / goldie one to replace it: Pictured at my desk - where the parking is getting bad!!
