Retro fitting sports exhaust and PSE

I paid £2000 for retrofit to a 987 gen 2 Cayman.  It is a lot of money but my car needed something like that as the spec from factory was quite ordinary.  What I have noticed whilst looking at the gen 2 Cayman market regularly is virtually no 2.9 cars for sale have it and not many 3.4S do either.  Probably makes the car easier to sell rather than getting your money back come sale time though.

oh and yes I got a 10% PCGB discount and also another small discount on top. The RRP including fitting is circa £2500 for my model.  I got a quote off them originally, got busy and delayed.  I went back a few months later for a new quote and had a good chat and a bit more of a discount to get me over the line.  I had wanted a new black exhaust tip but the only way to get that was to order the black tip separately and sell the new silver one as the 'kit'only came in silver.  I could not be fished doing that.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I'm looking for a late 981  2015/2016 boxster or  boxster s in either white, racing yellow or guards red but not a lot have the PSE specked so just seeing how much on top to add it,

IIRC it was not so much for the 981, about 2k, but someone here rang around and got 1600, so don't just go to your nearest OPC and take their word for it, ring several.

I also had the Carnewal GT exhaust fitted to my 981. Massive difference when In normal mode let alone sport mode which gives you the "talk back" and growls in the 3-4K rev range that I wouldn't get in the 6-7k rev range before the upgrade. 

It's a fraction of the price of PSE and you're more likely to retain the outlay of the upgrade in the Carnewal than the PSE as the PSE is too darn expensive. 

Happy to showcase my Carnewal exhaust note to anyone in North London if they want to hear it before I sell the 981 in the coming weeks.

Just posted this in wanted/buying advise but thought its also relevant here,

 

 

 

Cost wise for carnewal is 495 euros. You can then either visit him and he fits it for free, or do an exchange basis and fit it yourself if you are handy or pay a specialist to swop it over.

I got a good deal on le shuttle and found it to cost roughly the same having a nice drive out to belgium as paying the specialist to swop it over.

 

Also although it is not defined as being switchable on the 981 the sport button actually changes the exhaust due to the different map and you get more pops and noise on overrun with sport pressed so does act very similar to pse.

Clearly if cost wasnt a factor or the two cost the same i would go pse for the originality and the nice official button.

However i am very happy with the carnewal modification which still uses the original mufflers  (in case you were unaware of that) so appearence wise it looks the same (although i fitted a twin sports tail pipe to mine).

I did the modification as you will find the standard exhaust on a 981 is very quiet and refined whilst driving, much quieter than the 987's I had previously owned.

If you go down the Carnewal route (or even possibly the pse) wouldn't it mean an increase in insurance as they are modifications?

For PSE no, i told admiral I added pse which was a manufacturer factory option but fitted at a later date and they didn't increase the premium.

but every insurer is different!

Thanks for info, I suppose then that if you had carnewal fitted, you would pay a loading at every renewal, so depending on the loading costs, it might not be that much cheaper after several renewals??

the carnewal exhausts are standard and some of the baffling s been removed from the inside if I read correctly when researching one for my last car…

don't want to get into a declaring mods debate because I'm all for declaring ones that increase performance or desirability to thieves…but I just wouldn't bother declaring the carnewal set up.  It's called a carnewal exhaust because that company calls it one.  essentially it's a completely OEM exhaust with some sound deadening bits removed inside.  Technically it's modified but it's not in any way noticeable unless you disect the exhaust. If you drive over there you actually keep your existing exhaust and there is absolutely no difference cosmetically.
