Bodge50
Hi guys, Advice and knowledge help please.I have the PSE exhaust and it has been rattling for a couple of weeks - press the button and rattle stops . Now pressing button has no effect. I have been told Porsche don't sell the valves so the option seems to be to take exhaust off and weld valves open or closed which sounds expensive. Thanks for any suggestions
Jason986S
You've answered your own question I think. @Patt has welded his open IIRC? I certainly wouldn't weld them closed (would defeat the object and mute its delight). The valves are a common issue to stick/fail I believe, so there's bound to be guides and YouTube vids to help you out. I think somebody on here even fitted different actuators from another model Porker?
Menoporsche
Or even another model something else, like Audi, or BMW? That does ring the faintest of bells.
Greenman
Are the actuators still actually working? You can manually move them, have a fiddle and try some grease/oil, maybe they will free up and perhaps the rattle is one not seating correctly due to restricted travel. AnthonyR
The valves fail, they rattle then stop working, mine did exactly that about 2 years ago. A local exhaust shop replaced mine with some they bought on eBay, worked OK to start with but they have failed again already so not all that successful. Getting valves the right diameter is the problem, I read somewhere that the 997 valves (which are apparently available separately) will fit but others say they are the wrong diameter, I can't remember the right size off the top of my head. I do remember that Larini sell valves the right size, they were however an arm and two legs.
Menoporsche
Marseille sorted his 986 with VW actuators. http://www.BoXa.net/forum/index.php?/topic/60614-lightening-the-load/&page=
Patt
And we discovered that the closed position is actually the "loud" position too.
Bodge50
I can move the actuators by hand - but can no longer hear anything happening when i press the button.Could mean a fuse gone ( i don't know which one) They look fine - perhaps solenoid has packed up. Thanks for your help guys- i will probably get an indie to have a look in the future .
Gcar
IMO one of the vacuum actuators is shot. this can explain why the valve is rattling.
Seagull Fan
i have a slight rattle on mine. PSE works, but when you press button for on there is a slight 'chink' rattle, best i can describe. then work ok. when driving alls ok, until it gets to around 2100 - 2200 rpm, that band creates the rattle, over 2200 it stops. Ive asked an Indie about replacing with the 911 bits and they say it can't be done. I've asked the specialist i bought car from and he concurs. only option to replace the whole exhaust, so i've decided to put up with it as i don't want to welded open or shut, and roughly 2k for a minor irritation, i'll stay with the irritation
