Cheap 550 Anniversary

Not a lot to go on with that advert. You can see a chunk of interior missing by the plaque. Downstream bode well for the rest of the cosmetic condition. Mine is not as high mileage but I know what it takes to get a car up to good to great standard and no work is listed.

At that mileage I would want to see evidence of major items replaced. Shocks/springs, suspension arms, clutch and flywheel, cooling system work inc water pump and reservoir, air con condensers, gearbox oil. Then maybe things like brake lines, starter motor, alternator, aos, cat, exhaust (inc fittings and heat shields) etc etc. It may be cheap but at those miles it's only a bargain if many of the wear and tear items have been addressed.

I've seen this car for sale a while ago, perhaps advertised elsewhere. I remember the damage above the plaque - definitely the same car. Would suggest it's been on sale for a while with no takers. Wonder why?

I reckon it's a shed, just have a look at the MOT history. Expired in February and last years advises were mostly repeated from the previous year. Loads of tyre issues with ply exposed, recurrent headlight levelling issue. Maybe the dealer will bring it upto a decent condition, but I suspect whoever buys it will have to spend a fair bit on it and then it will still not be a collector's car. There's nothing special about M030 suspension after 136k miles.

Advert says one of 150 RHD models  , there were 1953 in total and I feel sure more than 150 in the UK..... infact I might be wrong but the 550 Anni was a UK car only ??

For anyone determined to acquire an Anniversary, surely this would be the one?

(Enthusiast-owned, judging by the 'garage art' and 102k miles for £8.6k...)

Cheers, Baggers.

Always surprised me that there seem to be more tiptronic cars for sale than manual. Wonder how many of the 224 were specified with manual gearbox? Also be interesting to know the breakdown of cocoa/charcoal.

Mine is a RHD model, not sure about 224 coming to the U.K. of all the car shows I've been to I only know of 4 550's.

There are at least four 'regular contributor' UK-based Anniversary owners on this forum alone?

Cheers, Baggers.

There used to be another one in my village! I know of one that went to Australia and a guy who works at CAT Driver Training has one.

A chap who lives in Deal, Kent also has one. I have seen 2 different cars regularly around Wandsworth/Battersea. Another regularly seen around Lewes in East Sussex. Quite a few seem to have been for sale recently-which is unusual because both times I have been looking for an Anni I've had to wait a good few months to find one available.

There was another member here with I think a MK1 Escort who bought but has since sold too and I know of another one which has had the black side stripes added. He was at Classics at the Castle but didn't drive in with us a couple years back.
