Installing an iPhone cable? How easy?

My 987.1 has a Parrot thing installed which is pretty pants and I would like to change this so that I can plug in my iPhone to charge and play music through the standard stereo. Is this doable?

It all depends on where you are starting from and what is “good enough” as a target

What have you got installed. ( head unit , amp (bose) etc.  ) and what do you want. (Handsfree phone, just some tunes, full play forward back resume etc. ), original look, budget, how hands on are you  what do you want to spend   ?

@Paul P thanks for your reply. Currently it's the completely bog standard head unit, no amp, no bose etc. It has the Parrot MKi9200 (I think!) and that is it.

All I would like is to be able to plug my phone in and have it charge and play music/satnav through the existing stereo. I do not need any further controls.

I had to keep mine stock as I have an extended Porsche warranty. I went this way and whilst no substitute for a wired connection the outcome is pretty acceptable, I can play tunes loud and proud, get SatNav output and answer the iPhone on it through the ancient CDR-24 in the car...Dial into a FM channel (I use 95.6) and Bluetooth to the phone. I then stick the phone in a charge dock and have run a 3m USB cable hidden around the car interior to the phone. I just have to remember to remove the power end from the accessory socket when not in use.

Some options

https://www.carcommunications.co.uk/porsche-ipod-kit

This one is would check on because it mentions fibre optic  but basically it “steals” the cd autochanger connections and gives you Bluetooth usb and aux

I would imagine both of these will need cd autochanger activation. You need someone with Durametric pro or piwis diag tool for that (unless you got lucky and it’s already enabled. ) check the map for members with the appropriate kit  I have access to a piwis in am in Rochester Kent If that helps

dension is another choice - pricey but good.

There is also some talk of the ability to add an aux socket (Becker offer it as a retrofit so maybe you can find somewhere that does that.

If you could get aux then something like this could work.

FIREFLY: World's Smallest Bluetooth Receiver w/ 3.5mm AUX for Wireless Clear Audio Quality Music Streaming - Car Pack (Black) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01HXXJPWK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_im2VCb3VNDQM7

hope this helps.
