mikefocke
But repairing yours you know what you have. Buy another car and who knows what you have. Ask around to see what used or rebuilt engines cost in your area. https://www.9apart.co.uk/ in the UK www.douglasvalley.co.uk Lancashire in the UK steve strange on eBay boxsterbits on eBay https://www.jasmine-porschalink.co.uk/ and on eBay porscheheaven@yahoo.com or https://www.facebook.com/Porsche-Heaven-246901405365392/ in Doncaster https://prestigesalvage.co.uk/ in Leeds anyone have any other sources for breakers, post em here and I'll add them to the list. Geoffjackson
gutted especially considering it sounds to have been a cherished example. i tried to sell my slightly older 99 2.5 which had a rattle integral to the engine when up to temperature. My best offer at the time for the complete running car was £1500. unfortunately your only going to attract breakers wanting to purchase and i dread to think of potential offers this time of year. used/ rebuilt Engine could be north of 4K. I know this as I had to pursue this as an avenue. Then where does it end. A rebuilt engine then might as well do rads. Brake lines etc. Rebuilt engine will only come with a 12month guarantee. you do have numerous options. i ended up breaking my car and considering it didn’t really have any desirable bits other than a 3 spoke steering wheel i ended up doing 2k profit on original purchase price, however it’s draining and time consuming. Unfortunately the other options are quite costly. is it worth saving? unfortunately only you can decide, just thought I’d share my experience as I couldn’t afford to plough 4/5k into a 2.5k car. i wish you well whatever route you decide regards geoff

I was in the same situation last year, after having the IMS replaced with some other work as preventive measure. From a so called specialist in West Yorkshire, who failed to replace the oil seals on a tensioner. Which failed within a few weeks later, causing the timing chains to jump. I went with the proven used low mileage engine and had that fitted by another specialist. Probably never get that money back, but I had already had the paint wheels done. Biggest cost of the bill was the used engine, which came in at 2.5K + my old engine. P.S. the new used engine did sound a lot better then the original engine which had 107K on it. smit572
Not had it checked but the noise it made wasn’t good and I’ve dropped the oil filter and there metal fragments on there . may be easy fix may not , the car is immaculate but I think I’m done going for something cheaper and less expensive to maintain
