Understood; have heard (pardon the pun) of Daisy and you clearing the road of the fauna. Might get a bit tiring in a Boxster though, that's all. Hopefully the selling dealer steps up.

This Felix?

Further update on my cats. Thought I’d try convincing my warranty company that the cat failed as a consequence of the valve lift solenoid failure. Didn’t hold out much hope. Called them Monday and they said no. Exhaust system is excluded. Thought I’d push it as had nothing to lose and asked to speak to one of their managers. They arranged a call back.

Tuesday had a call from someone up the chain and he said his colleague was in error and they’d cover the cat collapse. Result!
Headers, bolts and gaskets arrived from Carnewal yesterday. Woohoo! Booked with an Indy to fit so fingers crossed in a few days I finally get the car I wanted with a little extra oomph, noise and drama.

Are the header bolts on the 981 as prone to snapping off as on previous generations?

Which warranty provider is this?

I'll tell you when its done and dusted 😜 But to be honest, I rate them and may extend my warranty with them. Been pretty darn good so far.

The header bolt failures on 986/7 seem to be the result of corrosion over time, so you should be OK on a 981. What are the bolt heads like? On the 986 they have usually started to corrode away making getting a socket on difficult. If the bolt heads are all ok, I reckon they'll come out with a bit of gentle persuasion.

When the engine for my 986 was built we replaced the OE manifold bolts with Ti studs and “K Nuts”.

Shouldn’t have  any corrosion problems with this set up and was done with long term ownership in mind.

May be worth considering.

Most look in really good condition. Few have surface rust. My Indy said the scabby ones come of the easiest sometimes. Fingers crossed 🤞

You should be ok, I have just changed the manifolds on my 9YO 987.2, slight surface rust on the bolts but they all came undone without issue. Good luck

Thanks. Can’t wait to hear it fire up with the 200 cell cats 🐱

Ordered the full set of bolts and gaskets from Gert at carnewal at the same time as the headers. Here’s hoping I won’t be taking them off again.

So a little ahead of time, we got the job done. Header bolts all played ball. No casualties. Most bolts were in remarkably good condition. Out of 18 header bolts just 3 were looking scabby. The bracket holding the side of each header to the engine block had some very crusty bolts. But they came off.
On fire up, she sounds gorgeous! After the initial few seconds of tick over around 1000rpm (or a bit higher actually), she settles down to a quiet tick over. Yes, quiet. Few blips of the throttle to 2k or so and you hear the raspy raw tone. Will investigate the volume and extra hp over the next few days.
A few pics I took with a borescope of the collapsing cat and it’s healthy looking twin on the old headers. Was well and truly cream crackered.

Did about 160 miles in the car today. 200 cell cat headers. I like! Sounds gorgeous with the carnewal mufflers. Not loud at all really. Just grunty, raw, throaty. 1st gear pull off’s are just a pleasure. Love that sound. Guessing it’ll be even better with the roof down. Power at the top end has been restored and I’m pretty sure it’s quicker all through the rev range. Happy dude.

Anyone fitted BMC air filters? Worth it? I only ask as I’m kind of nearly at the Ehresmann Stage 2 tune - albeit with a different set of headers and minus that all important map! 🤔

Well done and good job, love it when a plan comes together. I fitted a BMC to my 987 and de-snorkelled, same at low RPM but above 4k it howls nicely. Should go well with what you have done.

Another vote for a yes 👍

I have K&N fitted and a bit more oral delight, especially with the sports button pressed.

More importantly will your headers now pass an MOT?

I'm asking for a friend that has extended warranty ending in March.😋

Added BMC's to the wishlist.

Lol Well I'm hoping an MOT won't be a problem. And Gert tells me it won't be a problem. No check engine light and it doesn't smell particularly toxic back there. Plus I get my MOT's done at a local garage that specialises in rally cars. They are "car lovers" lol ;)  Choose you're MOT tester well and you'll be fine

What were the shipping costs from Carnewal ?

Gert is a really nice chap, if you email him he will be more than happy to tell you everything you need to know. I was planning a trip and he was all in for £495 for an exchange system, that was at his place in Belgium. His email is gert@carnewal.com.

495 euros buys you a pair of the carnewal mufflers

995 euros buys you a pair of the 200 cell cat headers.

Both are exchange items and it cost me circa £50 to send back my old mufflers and circa £30 to send back my old headers

You need a gasket and bolt set and Gert kindly sorted a full set out for me including head bolts, header gaskets, cat flange bolts/nuts and gaskets all for 52 euros. You may need new clamps for joining the mufflers at the back and new clamps to hold the mufflers up on their brackets. I did and bit those from opc. £80 ish.

shipping for the headers was 20 euros.

All the prices above are plus 21% Belgian vat.

Sounds expensive right? Worth it 100% 👍😁
