Advice for a newbie please!

@JamesF - i listed all my costs on a 2010 987.2 in my thread on Members Rides.

If those wheels are genuine - one option could be to buy a replacement set and then sell those  - may even make a profit out of them if they are rare and genuine.

Just be careful with the test drive - they can become addictive :)

don't want to fall foul of any advertising rules on the forum.

Go ahead. Always good to have recommendations provided you're not affiliated to the seller. Going off your location I'm guessing it may be Reason. They always seem to have food cars albeit at the top of the price range. Like you I probably paid over the odds for mine, buying from a specialist for peace of mind. Haven't regretted it other than when I see what 2006 2.7's are going for now! :(

NB it's BoxSter. You'll have the forum police after you.

Thanks Jim

I bought the car last April for £14k, done just short of 6000 miles and not spent anything on it apart from a little bit of detailing and euro plates for a trip to France. Just been in for a winter check over and nothing

3.2S Tiptronic, Atlas Grey with Sand Beige interior, Bose and a good spec all round, electric seats etc.

Dealer was Reason Porsche in Crowfield Suffolk

well this proves the point Paul, buy wisely and they need not cost the £1k/£2k in the first 12 months

If I wanted to be sure I would ask them to remove one and show you the part number on the back of one of the spokes, not sure what it would be though? 997.xxx.xxx? ( Id never take a car salesman word for it, even if they claimed to be an expert).

+1

No I haven’t bought. I deceived against it as I wasn’t keen on those wheels for that car so decided to try and be patient.

Ive since been in dialogue with a very helpful member of this forum and I’m coming around to the idea of increasing my budget to £15k and searching for a 2nd Generation one, grey or preferably in black.

If anyone knows of any up for grabs or any further advice, let me know!

Best advice I can give James would be to do what I did and go and talk to a specialist, any one worth their salts would be just happy to talk through options with you in a no pressure environment, like I said in an earlier post - even if it means travelling for the right car. Great place to start would be somewhere like https://www.reasonporsche.com/car-gallery

I don't have any affiliation to these guys, just sharing a great buying experience!

Good luck hunting

Paul

Good decision tbh I didn't think those wheels suited the car at all. I've bought and owned loads of boxsters over the years so there isn't much I'm not aware of. Feel free to run any potential cars past me, always happy to help

You're allowed to cross post but it's cheeky to duck the "min 40 posts" rule for advertising, which implies you've a bit been part of the community.  Just had someone else fall foul of that.

You have 31 posts now so make 9 more - of substance, please - and you can post your own ad.

Thank you, wasn't aware of that rule.

I have been rather guilty of being a lurker, but received such a lot of help during the buying process that I thought perhaps it would be a good place to advertise at the end of the process!

Thank you again.

So, potentially a change of tac based on advice as to what might better suit my requirements if affordable, any thoughts/advice re the following which looks exactly what I am after...

It's a PDK - which you may or may not want.

Claims lots of service history. Has Sport Chrono and heated seats, both of which are good. Does it have PASM? All-plastic interior, which is bad (but you may not care).

MOT history looks fair although there are a LOT of warnings for rear tyre uneven wear. How's the tracking?

Black on black. Some love this. (I hate it).

Price-wise I can't comment. It feels high but others may disagree.

If you want pdk it's ok. You may want to swop the steering wheel to the one with metal paddles, sport design wheel, which also looks and feels better. It has sport+ which is what you want if you go pdk. Aftermarket stereo is a plus or a minus depends on how much you like originality, hopefully original stereo comes with it??.

Service wise it sounds really good with most consumables replaced making it sound hopefully a cheap car to run for a while.

At least its wheels are right for the car!!

14.5-15k would sound the right sort of price for a private sale.

Needs a fresh mot, only a few days left!

4 new tyres, spark plugs, PDK fluid, discs+pads, air con. Probably £1500+ of value. Mine needed all of that minus 2 tyres and I paid £14k last year at 55k miles, same spec.

Looks like a good price to me. At least you won't lose any time getting the basics sorted and revolution have a good reputation. If I was looking right now I'd probably make an offer.

looks like a good one from the pics and someone has spent some money on it too - should be good for a few years yet.

Buy it, drop the roof, drive it and enjoy! life's too short to be indecisive! :)

I agree hoever for 15k i dont think i could live with that plastic dashboard......but then again im going against my own ethos 'never care what others think it's your car!'

I have a Carrera Red interior and i love it - others don't - like you say, we shouldn't really care, but..... :)

Can't you get one of those American dashboard covers? that would look classy ;)

I think this boils down to a question of do you really want pdk or not. Is it a weekend toy or going to be your daily?

If it's a daily I can see the attraction of pdk. Finding low mileage pdk with sport plus and all that recent expenditure at that price wont be easy so compromises may have to be made over non full leather interior (which is a rare option).

If it's for a weekend toy I would want manual but like we say we are all different!

Good luck

No, it is very much a weekend (and whenever I can) car but to be honest I don’t mind it being auto if that’s what the overall best deal is. I’ve had auto cars for some time and really like them, albeit not as much fun as this!

I also don’t mind  the plastic dash. I’ve had BMW, Merc, Jag & Audi and they all have!

Spoken to the chap today and he’s away until next week, so gonna put it through its MOT and call me back!

Ive been looking at another which looks in incredible condition, low mileage etc but has had 8 owners in 10 years. I know these things change hands more regularly than the norm but that number still puts me off if I’m spending £15k - out of interest, would it you?

Yes because it will put people off when you come to sell in the same way that you are questioning it now.

The car may be fantastic but it is always going to be a stumbling block when you look to move it on.

You tend to find more cars come to the market come spring so dont rush unless you think it's THE one!!
