Pulling left and slight vibration

I have a vibration through the steering wheel and the car pulls left, even after wheel balancing and alignment.

The cars of to Cotswold Porsche specialist tomorrow, and I notice they advertise on here,  however does anyone have any idea what this could be?

I believe it's coming from the front. The vibration is very slight, similar to a wheel balance not being correct.

The pull is fairly noticeable, but as power  steering keeps you going straight, only noticeable when hands off the wheel.....

Slightly buckled rim?  What speed is the vibration?  I had similar issue I noticed in France last year when cruising a bit faster than in the UK.  I'd had new tyres and the fitters noted it took a lot of weight (120g IIRC) to just about balance one front rim.  On return from France took it to a trusted type place I used to use before I moved and indeed the front left was out of true.  Vibration on the 17" rim started to build at about 73-75mph and would run through 10 or so mph more.  After straightening almost perfect and less than 40g of balance weights in total.

Could be. They put 140g on each side... So very out of balance.

I did ask them to check if the wheels were out of shape, they seemed fine.

Thing is, it's not a big issue but it could be if there's an underlying problem. I'll see what CPS say and let you all know

I had a similar issue after wheel refurb... the wheels came back with weights on and looked balanced. Maybe they were balanced before they painted them or the when the paint was still wet. Either way they weren't balanced and I had vibration over 45 mph, was easily sorted by a re-balance thankfully. Probably not your issue, but hope you get it sorted relatively cheaply.

Any chance of the front left disk/pads binding?

Possible cause is a sticky caliper piston.  Good excuse to repaint the calipers too while they are off the car.

New discs and pads so could be something binding. I've checked the temp by hand after a drive and they feel similar left to right.

CPS area looking at the car for me today so I'll let you know.

If the new disks were not conditioned after fitting one may have warped slightly. There's also the possibility that material from the pad has bonded to the disk and touches the disk when it rotates.

The dealer put them on when he acquired the car in Feb this year. It's possible a few test drives took place before I purchased the vehicle.

I've done 400 miles in it, without any heavy breaking.

The wheel did rotate freely when I had the when off for balancing, but I never checked it myself...

So pretty much most of the suspension components are being replaced on the car.... I'll let you all know what it's like when it's back. More dollar than I wanted to pay at this moment in time but I'm hoping this will give us some good years enjoyment.

I forgot how expensive cars are compared to bikes.... 😜

Look in the bright side you shouldn't have to spend anything on the suspension for several years now.  Handling should be significantly sharper with all the wear and tear taken out and a full track up.

I know but sadly it put the overall spend into 987 territory...

Albeit this is a one owner from new motor...

I think it's just the rear shocks and springs left.

Should get the car back Monday.

On which money will inevitably need to be spent which potentially puts it into 981 territory. That's man maths for you!

I guess you didn’t for the front shocks, seems stupid that they didn’t replace the top mounts at the same time.

I need to get some suspension work done, just not sure if I should have a go or get it done.  Just know it ain’t going to be cheap

That's correct. I've only owned the car 2 weeks.

Lee at CPS said there's been quite a bit spent on the motor underneath. I'm just adding to that bill 😶

That said, I'm hoping it means I'll have a fairly sound car mechanically for a while. Something that won't cause too much drama. *Ready to quote this statement in a few months when I'm stripped of all cash....

When my car was pulling to the left with a bit of vibration it turned out to be a crack in the rear sub frame. Worth just asking them to check it. My garage only found it when they put my car up on a different lift and the weight of the car wasn't on the wheels making the split visible.

If it was a bearing you should be able to hear it.

Thanks for the tip.

What do you need to do?  If is isn't changing shocks or drop links, pretty much everything is doable at home with only some aggravation.  Once you get into taking things out of these upright castings that things get violent and brutal.
