Brake Pad Wear Limit?

Sooner rather than later. There is no specific time or mileage that pads last as it all depends on the use.

My pad limit alarm has just come up, can anyone comment how soon I should get them replaced?

Either when the graunching starts, or sooner if you get fed up with the light before the graunching starts.  I'd just say wear warnings are there of a reason.... 🤔 and with all due respect, not really a question for someone who drives a sports car.  No offence intended so I hope none taken.

Don't forget to buy a sensor. Assuming it is not just a false alarm. Wait till you get the brake pads first to make sure they have the hole in. Some don't  - Dunno why but my last set just had the sensors cab!e tied up out of the way as there was no hole to fit the sensor.  One of the sensors still went bad and threw up the error. So I changed the pads anyway. You can't re-use the old sensor if it has worn through and triggered the warning.

If you are getting ECP ordered delivered look at their sister site carparts4less.  Same outfit but online only therefor delivery only and often cheaper than ECP.

How many miles have you done?  Maybe you will need to change the disks as well?  On my 981 with 28k Miles whenever my car is in the OPC they do a health check including brake pad and disk wear and wear limit etc,  it seems the disks are closer to needing replacement than the pads which seems a bit bizarre to me. (Neither having been replaced from new as yet)

I’m not sure exactly, had all disks and pads changed together last time. I think 2 sets of pads to one disk is ok - hope so anyway!
Something I’m not doing again is paying for them to be changed at a Porsche specialist. I paid about £1000 and they can be bought for just a few hundred and they aren’t that hard to do.

Thanks, useful to know. It’s worth shopping around and sharing . I recently got new clutch and flywheel from eBay following recommendation on here. £484 (Sachs) which was way cheaper than other places. Arrived next day (car is so much nicer to drive!).

Hi,

I’m after rear pads and see that Brembo have been recommended here before. Just looking on the GSFcarparts website and can see two different design/types of rear pads as per screenshot below.  Are the pads at the top (£79.50) for sport brakes and the lower ones for standard brakes? C4A7EDA2-9646-42DE-9895-0C3D674CC85D.thumb.png.e343a21e6d1ff59eefa5dac7ac3a9d07.png

Also, Is there a wear sensor on both sides or just left or right rear on the 987.1 (2.7). 2005 model year.

I know best way is just to take a wheel off and have a look, but thought I’d check here first, being lazy!!

Thanks in advance.

I've also posted this in the 981 section in error.

probably worth clicking in the 'info' box - you'll probably find the more expensive ones are for the PCCB discs...

Thanks Beaks,

I did check the fitting info before posting, however its the same in terms of dimensions for both except the bit about Wear warning:

Cheaper ones

Brand brembo
Width [mm] 112
Height [mm] 73
Fitting Position Rear Axle
Thickness [mm] 15.5
Wear Warning Contact prepared for wear indicator

Expensive ones:

Brand brembo
Width [mm] 112
Height [mm] 73
Fitting Position Rear Axle
Thickness [mm] 15.5
Wear Warning Contact excl. wear warning contact

Will take a wheel off and take a look over the weekend!

Hi, there are wear indicators on all the pads. I have used old ones previously, but next time will get new as they can be a PITA to release.

General consensus is to remove the wear indicators first, but if I was going to reuse them I would try to remove the pads with them still in place and then try and ease them off the pads without the callipers being in the way.

Normally pads which don't have the wear indicator are harder / performance pads.
