Yep poor match/blend and personally I think you start to range into Boxster 987.2 territory at that money.

yes possibly right - the service record is very good porsche/specialist, with most old MoT's etc  - serviced yesterday & recent suspension work too

but i really have a distrust for dealers and the dealer says he can't see any difference - must just be the photos - yeh right - that would annoy me and would probably be around £500 to put right

Depends on what you want and your level of tolerance.

For me too much money for a 987.1 with too many miles and the paint would make me think what else hasn't been done right.

That and I'd have to angle grind the roof off.

I have a seal grey Cayman and it's a weird colour for things like that. Slightly different angles can make it look a very different colour.

Personally I'd go and see it in the flesh - they may just be odd photos (although I do agree that the mismatch is quite noticeable).

I'm not sure that the price is all that great though. I paid 9500 for mine with the same miles and a full service history (it had actually been serviced annually above and beyond the porsche schedule). The paint on mine was/is a bit scruffy (lots of stone chips on the bumper and a large one on the bonnet) but it would be no more than 500 quid to sort it out (I bought it for trackdays and thrashing so I didn't really care too much and have added far more stonechips since).

thanks Lenny, but its about 400 miles away, so not so easy - is yours a cayman then at £9500? - what year ?

Just seen that that one has bose and xenons (which mine doesn't) but not convinced that those plus a bumper respray are worth 4k more

doesn't have xenons - says it does, but it doesn't have the washers so they are std lights - and i never listen to music in the car, so Bose is lost on me- lol

2007. Mine has the sports steering wheel (which is a must in my opinion) plus the dual tailpipes (neither of which that one has) but otherwise the spec is very similar.

I see that that one has yellow calipers - are they just painted or genuine PCCBs? If the latter they are worth a bit but in not sure I'd actually want them (£5k for new discs...)

Ah yes, ceramic brakes. Fantastic pub talk but actually a right PITA. Steel brakes are more than adequate for the road going dare devil.

For the money, there is a lot of car available on the net. I also have a mistrust of dealers.

im sure there are lots of great dealers, and actually the guy has been very nice and very responsive - but how could he NOT see the colour difference ? im sure the previous owner could shed some light, BUT it would cost to get it repainted

See for me again it's not the paint per se - it's fixable , it just would make me think what else has been accepted as "ok" on the car.

Of course again a good pre-inspection report could help nail the thinking.

Good luck with the hunt.

I've spent a bit on upgrades since I bought it but in terms of actual repairs/maintenance *required* i think it has cost me less than 100 quid (a coffin arm needed doing despite it being less than 2 years old).

Decent cheap cars are out there but there are also a load of cr*p ones. The guy I bought mine off (a barrister) had had his first child and was buying a family car... Hence had a genuine reason for selling

Again though, mine had a few chips and scratches on the bumpers so cosmetically could not be considered "mint"
