Afternoon guys n gals,

So my mechanic changed my waterpump for me last week and the car seemed fine, heats up to where it should be etc etc but ive just found out today ive now got no heat in the cabin unless i out it on HI??

Anything i can check or do before i call my mechanic and have the car taken back to him.

Thanks in advance

Could well be an air lock at the front of the car. Either jack the back of the car up as far as possible whilst chocking front wheels  or park nose down on a steep slope and then open the bleed valve next to the coolant filler. Start the engine and Rev it a bit to see if the coolant drops which would indicate the air lock is clearing.

Cheers Nobbie ill give that a go i live in a steepish hill

Would help if you could reverse it onto a couple of bricks each side just to give it the best chance of clearing and get the revs up to around 4K. Your neighbours will love you🤣

Does your car have climate control?

As mine does a strange thing with the heating.  It gets upto temp fine blows warm air when set to say 23 then cools off.  If i crank it up, it starts to get warm again but then cools off.

If I leave it on Hi, it stays warm all the time.  Specialist said the climate control is quite primitive and that’s it’s normal.

Yes mate it has climate.

the other new thing that happing is the A/C comes on straight away when i hit AUTO im reading this could be another problem and it could be just coisidance that ive had the waterpump done.

But im going to try what Nobbie suggested first

Is that not normal? I’m sure mine does the same

That’s why I always Vacuum bleed, they can be a pig, get it burped , hold at 2000 rpm for 30seconds with heater on full and repeat

Can’t dismiss that it was ok before the water pump but if you had said simply “ok goes hot on hi” then I would have said “cabin temp sensor”

so.  Pre pump change. What worked or not ?

When ive got the bleed valve open should i have the water cap off to?

There is no need to, they are plumbed next to each other.  Water comes along the return line, under the bleeder and the pours back into the expansion bottle just below the cap.

Assuming no other issue with your heating system, it sounds like the coolant system was filled without the cabin heater switched on.  Best speak to your mechanic to see if they had the ignition on, heater on high and fan on low when they refilled the system.

I tried this today and when I press the ‘auto’ button the snowflake symbol comes on at the same time.

Anyone else think this is not normal?

I think so, yes. It’s just indicating that the AC is on which is probably the default for ‘auto’

This is correct.  Auto mode sets the a/c to 'on'.
