bobar
Hello All, My 2016 718 has just been mot'd. The front nearside Carrera S 20" has a slight buckle. The options are to repair or replace the single wheel. Anyone else had experience of such an issue? My inclination is to replace to be on the safe side, but would appreciate hearing from any members who have had similar issues. Thanks
iborguk
I'd replace but that's me.

The Caped Crusader
Is an actual buckle or a flat spot on the inner part of the wheel.
½cwt
Granted not on a new Porsche, but I've had 3 or 4 wheels straightened over the last 20 years with no problem. The most recent one was on my 986. I sent the whole set for a full refurb 4 years after it was straightened and the wheel specialist said he could not detect which of the two fronts had been straightened as I asked him to check and correct any residual issues whilst it was stripped down. You are looking at a factor of 10 or even 20 in price between straightening and replacing.
bobar
Thanks for comments all. It would seem to be a flat spot rather than a noticeable buckle. The independent I have just been to has steered me to a firm local to me that he uses for any attention that is required for his Porsche wheels. I have yet to visit them to seek their view. For those who may be interested they are: https://www.bespokealloys.co.uk I will post progress.
steve7
I used these guys a few years back for a buckled wheel on my 911 at the time and was very straight forward and quick: https://www.autowiz.co.uk/alloy-wheel-refurbishment-contact-us/
The Caped Crusader
Flat spots are an easy fix for a competent wheel refurbishment company.

Menoporsche
I would just like some sort of guarantee that it won't be detectable on track/autobahn at 130mph. If I can't detect it then, that's good enough for me. What would annoy me is if it was fine for 6 months on British motorways at the national limit, then I take it abroad/to track and then find there was something out and the company escape responsibility. Yes you don't want to be leaving a GuaranTurd. Edited March 6, 2023 by iborguk
Boxer boy
Had a Bentley GT once for 6 yrs and 50 K miles .Dis eurotrips regularly .Often saw 160-180 mph ( out of 195 ) . It had 3 buckled wheels according to Bentley .I took it there when I got it for a zillion point check to get a handle on what it needed etc . Tech told me 95 % of cars that come through have some sort of buckle in barrel .To put it on there franchised for court and “ approve it “ they would fit new . As for me he said it didn’t matter as the wheels are balanced and can be rebalanced at every tyre fit .= no vibration. I did have a set of winter tyres B1 spec for Bentley ( same a pork N ) along with the summer P zeros .So the barrels were 6 monthly hacked about by tyre fitters every April and November. The wheels were BBM bolted .So a separate barrel . It’s the tyre fitters bead breaker that buckles them . How do yo know if you bought a new wheel , fitting it wouldn’t buckle it ? It certainly highly likely when it’s replaced ( bead breaker ) it will buckle . The arguably two faced trade love it , as with a gullible punter they can up sell …..which is where you are now . They are just as easy for wheel furb guy to un buckle as They are for the school leaver in the franchised dealer ( on tyres that day ) to buckle . A lot of wheel furb guys automatically chk and sort out buckles along with obviously re painting them .It’s so common . Ps the lower the aspect ratio is a35 compared to a 50 or 60 the greater the incidence of barrel buckle because the thing is less elastic and more lateral forces are needed to mount / dismount.
