Sourcing wheel hub/top mount bearings

Edited now... top mount bearing sourced, now I'm after front wheel hubs due to the threads being shot when the calliper bolts were taken out. 

Scroll a few posts down for pics.

Knew I'd forget something from my suspension parts list! 

Garage just rang as said the old ones are shot and they are trying to see who stocks them. 

Are the top mounts bearings standard size I presume? Will ring Leeds porsche in the morning but doubt they will have them in stock.

There are several on eBay for Sachs, who are OE supplier, and also Meyle (which mostly come as a pair with top bearing too like the D911 above), but who knows the delivery time...  Autodoc have Sachs at very low price but I guess you don't want to wait a week....

Cheers mate.. its my fault as I didn't order the bearings which is all I need.

Top mounts are with the garage but the old bearings fell apart as they took the strut out. 

Fingers crossed the opc will have them in stock and if not my mate will be p*ssed if the car stays stuck on the ramp. Lol

They do 'fall apart'.  The ball bearings are free between the upper and lower faces which just lift off.  De-grease and as long as the grooves are not pitted, reassemble with fresh grease.  Either that or I made a massive c*ck up nearly 3 years and 15k miles ago when I put mine back together.

Not sure it is a standard flat bearing and even if it is you'd need to know the inner, outer measurements and loading unless you have a standard equivalent bearing number to the Porsche part - 996 343 515 05.

Local OPC has only one in stock, Strasse Leeds has 2 in stock but they are £75+vat each! lol This going to be an expensive mistake i think.. will wipe out the good discounts i got on all the shocks etc. :D 

Im going to ring a couple of the local specialists to see if they have any and if they are willing to sell a pair and for how much.

Cheers mate... I think im going to stick with the ones at Strasse leeds as its only about 5 miles away or so and yes its a lot more expensive than OPC but cost of fuel and time seems like this will be the best option.

So... picked one bearing up from Leeds OPC for £57.53 as the only had one in stock so that wasn't bad considering the prices online and then the only other place that had them was Strasse who buy the parts direct from Porsche according to the OPC guy i spoke to. 

Popped to Strasse and they charged me £90 for the privilege of having the part in stock. 

I get back to my mates garage all happy showing him the bearings for him to respond with 'Thats great mate... but erm... look at this'

So the clliper bolts have corroded in the wheel hub. Now I'm going to have to source 2 new hubs... 🫤

Drivers side is much worse than the passenger side. 

Now where to look? Lol

See now im going to show my lack of mechanical awareness but my garage friend told me that he is reluctant to 're-thread' them for safety reasons, is that the same thing as you're suggesting?

Is that safe to do on this part?

Is that safe to do on this part? Re tapping no, with a helicoil or cert you re introduce a new thread , I’ve done it several times and it is tried and trusted method for thread repair, 

However it’s your choice, I know which route I would take, you can always price up some used hubs, if your mechanic is not experienced enough in this type of repair, see what feedback you get from other OP,s to convince you either way

Just putting it out there if any peeps, think that it shore up there back up of armoury!! I don’t like getting caught out when I start working on my cars and or other peoples.But I certainly understand there are limitations to talents.

Tell the garage to drill them and put some thread inserts in.  It’s what the specialist do, meant to be stronger then straight into aluminium.  Get the new revised bolts for the calliper as they shorter and hopefully won’t have this issue again.

Handed them over to a local engineering shop who are going to helicoil them. Should be ready by Wed. 👍

So next mission... cv boot is split. 

Found a couple of part numbers but i think its 99633229300 as per design911. 

Just waiting for the opc parts dept to ring me back but thought I'd check here. 

Need one asap.
