Wheel Refurbishment

Schuey

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Looking to get all 4 wheels refurbished on my recently acquired 986.2 Boxster 2.7.  I can see a few rust bubbles appearing and just want them looking new again.  They're the 18 inch Carrera wheels.

Who would you recommend to use in the West Midlands area?

Many thanks.

Hey @Schuey

How particular or OCD are you in regards to the finish??l

Ive had 2 sets of wheels done by these guys …

And they are very good. I’ve had a set of motorcycle wheels £80) and a set of Peugeot alloys refurbed (£120) and turnaround time was just a few days.

Agreed not Porsche alloys hence my original question

Northampton may be a bit far, but The Wheel Clinic have done a fine job on my original 986S wheels and also a set of diamond cut wheels for our Golf Cabrio.

I've found a local firm who acid strip, sand blast and then powder coat. So the finish is not OE looking but is more durable. They have a range of colours. If you want a very specific colour then you need a powder coat base, then good old fashioned paint in your chosen colour and then a powder coat based lacquer or top coat.

I find most powdercoated finishes quite orange-peeley. However, the powder finish provided by companies that use an automated oven where the wheels go in flat are much better and as flat as a painted OEM finish. There's a company not too far from me that does so. They're called Foz Sports Alloys on Facebook. Check out their work. I realise they're too far for you, but it gives you an idea of the finish achievable.

I like the gold. Car is guards red. My plan is gold for my winter wheels with black centres and bolts. If i cannot find a reasonably priced black hard top in black. I will get my blue one painted black. 🤙
