That looks like it has had repair sections let in already!

They've previously been modded so presumably the scarring from that.

Decided to bite the bullet and have ordered a new non-valved system directly from Topgear for £700.  Got quoted ~£200 for welding and looks like I can sell the OEM sport tips for a few quid to offset against it so it seemed like it was worth the extra. Hopefully will be here by the weekend.

Hopefully drone won't be an issue - from reading round it seems to affect PDK cars more than manuals. Will report back once fitted!

Then I hope it works out better for you than my experience! Mine's an '06 2.7 and, whilst initially the sound was awesome, at around 50mph the drone was appalling. It was so bad that Topgear, who are local to me, had to take the car in and modify the exhaust at their expense.  If you've got a 3.2 maybe you won’t have the same issue. 🤞

I have the DesignTek valved system and think it’s brilliant. I have read that the non-valved versions drone a lot, so opted for the valved one. It’s louder and deeper toned than standard with the valves closed, and probably offensively loud when the valves are open (but good fun in tunnels). No regrets.

I second this, have done the same thing. Only issue I encountered is that on startup it defaults to valves open which is annoying. I modified the loom with a relay to reverse that so mine always starts valves closed.

That’s a great idea @832ark.

Someone else on here posted that you can close the valves before you start the engine, so that’s what I do. Turn the ignition key to the first position, press the close button on the remote and it starts with the valves closed. More of a faff than your mod, but a useful workaround.

Yeah, that’s what I was doing before. My mod works really well, but reverses the buttons on the remote.

Just in case it’s useful to anyone, I used a 5 pin switch over relay and cut the red wire in the pair going from control unit to vacuum solenoid then connected as follows:

Pin 30 - ignition +ve
Pin 85 - +ve from control unit

Pin 86 - ground

Pin 87 - no connection

Pin 87a - +ve to vacuum solenoid

Effectively it just acts as a NOT gate in the feed to the vacuum solenoid.

I have the DesignTek unvalved catback on a 2.7 Gen 1 and it is far too loud for me - the drone is invasive with the hood up in 4th/5th at 2k rpm.  Very shouty on high revs as well….previous owner forked out £1200 for this annoyance which I assume was cheaper than an OEM replacement?  The neighbours love a cold start at 06:30…

If you need to do a long motorway drive at constant rpm as said previously that drone might be annoying. Not felt the need myself but drone killers  might be what you need, just for that.

Hope you like it 😀

Exhaust turned up yesterday, seems quite well made and fitted easily without having to mess about with it.  Took it for a quick drive - first impressions seems ok, louder than the previous modified one but not too obnoxious (from in the car at least).  Tried it with roof up and down - not sure about drone yet, maybe at around 2k rpm but might just be because I was listening for it to find fault with it.  Will see how I get on after a few weeks and report back.

Have got a couple of fingertip-sized holes in my 2.7's backboxes so following with interest. Any amount of drone would drive me nuts. My specialist has recommended the Topgear valved system. I'm not yet convinced going by some of the comments I've read.

If the holes are still only that small, get it welded, then no drone concerns...
