Fitted the tubular manifolds and 200 cell cats, all went much better than expected with all 12 manifold bolts coming out easily. Sounds even better and revs cleaner and quicker.

I bet you hit the limited on your first few drives. I did this on my first Boxster after fitting just the manifolds as it seems to want to keep revving and the power still keeps coming at the top end.

Thank you. It's not a major problem, a bit of heavy braking and it goes away for while.

If heavy braking sorts out your brake vibration then it's not the brake discs that are warped. Sounds very much like pad pick up or that the pads weren't bedded in right at the beginning which then causes the uneven pad pick up from time to time later.

  3. Don't want to p*ss on anyone's chips too much but don't forget you can get a SmartTop second hand for around £150+. You get one touch up and down at any speed up to circa 30mph. Over that and it just won't operate. No need for handbrake on. On mine there also seems to be a safety mechanism in that if something obstructs the movement eg you didn't undo the latch properly then it stops the operation.

It's a cost neutral mod as you can resell at the same price.

Has anybody ever just cut out the front cats and replaced with straight pipe, been reading that changing the headers on a 987 gen 1 is pointless....??

There's only 1 pair of cats on a 986. I think @Berty987 has done the most experimentation on a 987. I think he dyno'd cheap sports manifolds and standard and nigh on little difference.

I find the eBay manifolds enhance any system over the OE units. My 986 definitely sounded smooth and fruity with no deep tones. But then I had Dansk/Janspeed sports cats and rear box respectively which was lovely (especially with all fresh gaskets).

Definitely agree with that. Even with standard cats and exhaust the engine feels much freer revving at the top with the manifolds. Having tried a fair few combinations happy to still be on eBay manifolds, sports cars and Carnewal some 4+ years later.

  6. Never tried it with a cross over pipe but did have standard manifolds and eBay exhaust then eBay manifolds and exhaust. The latter sounds better. There is still a little drone but it is less. These are cheap and there is nothing wrong with that but slending a chunk of money to mod it seems a waste of cash. My preference is to mod to enhance something not take away something you don't fundamentally like. If you're modding in the second scenario then the base is wrong.

Cleaned and reproofed the hood. Gave the rest of the car a good wash and as per my comment the other day on always finding something new every wash, I noticed that the paint is flaking on one of my alloys! They were refurbed less than 2 years ago, is this normal?

Not normal. Poor prep most likely. Is there corrosion or bubbling underneath?

  8. There's a funny back story to this. I was looking for one for several years. As far as I can remember this one wasn't advertised for sale as such but I managed to make contact with the owner who is on here. The deal was I do a nice write up with photos etc and I got it for a very good price. However, by the time I got it and by the time I started thinking about painting it GT silver I just lost interest in doing the cosmetic mods. I think I had already removed the Cayman style spoiler gave it away and reverted to standard by this point. Anyway I've had this boxed in my garage for what must be 2 or even 3 years now. Whilst it's in my possession I have opted to give it back to the previous owner who will place up the for sale advert. It's in Artic silver I believe.
