I have the Ryobi, which has worked well for me - I paid under £100 for it a while ago and wasn't expecting too much, but it's been great.

I already had a bunch of their other tools and batteries so made sense to me to stick with the same.

Which ever make you get don't skimp on the battery, you need 5ah.

That’s good to know, all my power tools are Ryobi and I have two 5ah batteries, will look into the impact tool

  2. You will probably need to spray them with wd40 and leave for 24hrs and then use your spanner with maybe an extension to give you more leverage.

and yes yours will only have 2 sensors. Should have let me know as I have accumulated most of my tools in exactly the same way, half way through a job. If you need anything let me know, I now have most things.

    Good Luck

You're in good hands at Cavendish, they're my go-to indy and they know what they're doing.

I'd be very interested in finding out the root cause of your engine failure.

In the meantime, here is something to add to the man-maths balance, depending on what you're quoted (I am sorely tempted to bid for this myself and exchange my car):

    https://wbandsons.com/listing/porsche-boxster-hartech/

That’s a £10k engine conversion so well worth £7k in my humble

  4. I have a similar issue on my 996 C4, and have tried most other things, air leaks, various sensors, chem cleaned the engine etc but keeps coming back to P1341 Camshaft adjustment bank 1 which is a £500 part plus a days labour as you need to drop engine slightly to get to it, so an expensive fix, circa £1400

my symptoms are diffident, when cold fine, when warmed up, rougher idle and erratic idle, drives fine and starts every time hot or cold on the button, however it will if it gets very hot, and when idling cut out, then it might take 6-7 cranks to get it started. If I press the aircon button, this increases the revs and I don’t get it cutting out.

keep this thread updated, if I have it resolved I will let you know as well. GL

My good friend @the baronkindly read the codes from my car today. Thank you.

    We got the following code:

P1115: Oxygen sensor heater ahead of catalyst convertor. BANK 1.

Going to ask the OPC to order me one or both sides in depending on price. Anyone know part numbers please?

Get the one from design 911 it’s a Bosch part (same as OEM but much cheaper) mine was around £50 but was last year and also for a 996 so maybe slightly different

    Thanks EDC and iborgUK.

EDC - any guidance or videos to show me how to clean the throttle body? Is this a good excuse to go 996 throttle body without telling the wife 🙂

IborgUK - do you have the kit to do this? I would be happy to pay for you to scan the car/

Hi Rav, I’ve got a code reader if you want to pop over

My money would be on the door lock module.  Don't be tempted by a cheaper VAG or after market one, go Porsche (which is actually a VAG part number) or secondhand to avoid further issues.

    What he said

  8. I’ve done 220k on original duel row IMS, I had my clutch changed last year but left the IMS well alone.

Do some research and you’ll find conflicting messages, however due to the age if I put a new one in the housing and other components that the IMS goes into could be worn which could cause the new one to let go.

If you have the duel row IMS I wouldn’t touch it,

  9. My view being a classic car fan and having owned many older Porsches, some 50yr old, mileage and service history is irrelevant always buy on condition, I suppose the Boxsters are just at that tipping point and don’t fall into either category, so some will want low mileage full service history, and others will go on condition, I always buy on condition, how it drives etc but I do know a little about cars to a degree so know what to look for.

  10. Yes, if you are of a certain height it’s a side effect, I also got chaffing on the leather and roll bar paint, I have tried all sorts of positions but I do like to be slightly reclined, I don’t have that problem in the 996😂

Meh - been done a good few years ago (minus the “quarter roll cage”) by a number of this very forum’s members.

That said it’s always great to see the Boxster being promoted.

    987 onwards? Just numbers.

They need to speak to @map  he has better ideas and his car looks and sounds far superior, even covered in filth 😂

OP has already said this made no difference...  As my teachers used to say, RTQ. 😉

I should really learn to read all the posts before I comment, I will go and stand in the naughty corner🤓

Blimey, every time I see a post from @DaveyP I think "I don't remember posting that..."   The big clue is in the content, which shows that you're clearly a competent mechanic, whereas I have got sausages for fingers and no technical knowledge at all...

I actually didn’t twig, thought was you doing some spannering.😳

I took the option of fitting a second had genuine unit from a breaker when the cable broke on my passenger side door regulator. All the bits are there and it is set up for a Boxster, don't get a 911 one as the stops are in a different place. Still running fine after 3 years and less than a third the price of a new Porsche item.

I’ve replaced the regulator on both my Boxster and 911 they are the same part but you have the option of swapping the bump stop to adapt to either car. New fro euro car parts or similar is around £140. It’s a lot of work  to have to replace again if your second hand one fails and you may not be as lucky as ½cwt
