@the baron - these guys are worth a look (and they seem to understand export VAT)

From memory they have a decent reputation in aircooled circles - good advice pre purchase - and one or two on this forum seem to have had positive experiences

    Continental headunits and adaptors.

Get in touch with them and let us know how you get on.

Excellent link,  seems to cover all the adaptors etc

  2. As is a common thread from time to time, I’m keen on purchasing the Continental car radio with Bluetooth and Dab but there doesn’t seem to be a UK supplier, anyone purchase one recently and if so what connectors did you get, I have the single DIN in my car already so hoping it will be a an easy swap

This is he unit I’m after:

  3. This is a design fault, there is a a piece of sponge glued to the inside of panel, this absorbs water and stays wet, over time it will rust from the inside out, hence he bubbles, I had this bad metal cut out and replaced with good metal, only way you will truly stop it getting worse. I then had all the sponge removed from both sides.

This was done by a body panel expert around five years ago and no signs of rust coming back either side.

The passenger side is always worse due to it being curb side and the puddles splashing up constantly making the foam wet.

    Hope this helps others

And the spotty finish on the headlamps from the UV wipes.  Better than a browny/yellow oxidised finish but I need to find a better solution...

Looking good apart from the headlights, use the 3M kit, it works, but you have to be a bit brave

Went with The Better ½ to visit some friends for a summer evening dinner.  About a 90 mile round trip up into Rutland.  Nothing quite like an evening drive into dusk with the roof down.

I see what you did there… better half, very good

Clay bar, AG Super Resin Polish, AG Extra Gloss all applied.  Glass polished and rear screen and wind deflector cleaned with AG Fast Glass. Not so happy with the UV wipes on the headlamps, seem to have gone spotty as they dried.

Didn’t happen unless you post some pics…

Seriously would be good to see some pics, I’ve not clay barred my cars yet, probably should have before I applied my Graphene wax the other day.

Nothing like polishing a car to see all the imperfections scratches and dents that you would otherwise not see.

  7. There are quite a few members that have gone down the console delete route so I’m sure someone will be able to help you with dimensions.

if it was me though and you were prepared to buy one in the first place, I’d buy one and just replace the carpet to match yours, unless you have time on your hands and fancy a challenge go for it and build one.

Planning to do this myself. Picked up 8 litres of Mobil 3000 5w40 from Amazon for just under £56 amd a Mahle Knecht fikter from ECP for £11.49.

Make sure you replace the sump washer too

@the baron which grade of Mobil 3000 do you run?

Steve has 210k+ on his 986 and changes annually on about 3k a year mileage.

Mobil  Super 3000 X1 Engine Oil - 5W-40 - 5ltr Eurocarparts usually do good deals

@RalphyBMW do you mean the small parallelogram shaped piece that is body colour?  If so I believe it is held on with thin VHB tape and just prizes off.

987 doesn't have these infill bits, but the Polytrol advice for the black trim around the window opening is sound.  Will be doing mine this weekend....

I can confirm they just prise out, the reason for the their existing is to locate the RTS which is Porsches roof transport system, in other words a roof rack.

they are designed to be removed and re inserted on a regular basis so you won’t break them, well you might do but you would have to be pretty kack handed

I recently spruced mine up with Polytrol.

Other's have used plastic filler and painted in situ to good effect, obviously a lot of mask up required re that.

I’ve done that to mine as they where badly pitted and marked up, they loook like new now after doing the above ^^^^^

Great project, I look forward to the updates.

I am not a fan of the size of the wheels in your picture, i think they need more rubber.

This colour would work well with a black interior

If that was taken at the Porsche museum in Stuttgart I owned that actual car, here it is with my mother in law sitting in it and my very young daughter she’s 25 now
