Spoke to Colin the owner today - professional photographer has posted the stick with the pictures on out to him - so when he gets it he will send the pictures on to me - @the baron wanted a pic of himself draped seductively over the bonnet of his 996, but went all shy when he realized he had left his nipple tassels at home - and he didn't have time to ask  @John K if he could borrow his.

Singling me out when you where first up along with a few others that where keen after you had released them from your Sunday frunking. 🥳

Not as such - it’s heavily tweaked and the changes are ongoing.
Current setup is 3.7 motor, re-profiled cams, small intake (74mm), lighter (-8kg) rotating/reciprocating crank assembly (pistons- flywheel), custom long manifold exhaust system. With an interim map gives a useful 326bhp at the crank. Torque biasing diff, custom coilovers and chassis setup with better brake cooling, fluid and pads.

Future developments include large intake (minimum 82mm) from in-wing filter to new plenum plus a remap and on road mapping for drivability - hopefully see an up tick on both torque and bhp.

Not entirely sure - it has been tweaked recently and it’s “pointier” than it was.

Maps car is the ultimate outlaw, just love what he’s done to it and his plans for the future.

    Quick turn around.

I also think you sit higher in a 986 than a 996 but I didn't figure out a way to measure it.

As in your bum is higher in relation to the bonnet and possibly the steering wheel but I'm not overly confident on that one. Could just be a symptom of sitting further back. But it feels to me like even with the seat moved forward slightly in the 996 I am still lower than 986.

I agree with this but as you say it might be because you can move the seat further back, but I do feel lower down in he 996

It's obviously some form of heat vent for the engine. Clearly their PowerPoint skills aren't that good. Blue Air in via the side pods and red air out the drain pipe. Don't forget it's a lot hotter in Italy than it is here. These early 2.5 Boxsters get really hot pulling round over weight Italians with froot full of vino tinto.

The best bit about this pic is the rear wheel. I love a bit of tyre wall and this doesn't disappoint.

It’s also a drainpipe for the water that collects in the fake grills, I wonder where this drains too if it is supposedly for air escapement

I would so not want to be in a serious shunt in that car. Not a diss and not because of Jimmy Dean - same with any car with 50's early 60's safety features.

Also I've never driven one but I suspect that a 2.5 on skinny tyres would be great fun to drive.

Jimmy died in a 550 Spyder but yes totally agree with what you are saying, I’ve owned a genuine speedster and several 356’s, same issues, petrol tank over legs and straight spear aimed at your chest AKA the steering column which is not collapsible, death traps but great fun in a simpler world.

Are you claiming to be able to see a 2% difference at that viewing distance? It’s more likely to be something in the image that cues extra width. To my eye, the black car looks the widest, probably because of the horizontal reflections on the boot.

2% still represents 4cm which is visible to the eye so I would say yes you can

  7. At the weekend I was involved in a photo shoot with a few other members to promote a new car storage facility.

I have cropped back a picture of just my car the 996, @CAZ 987 and @Rav986 the 911 looks thinner than both it’s sandwich between, is this an optical illusion or are the dimensions of the 911 actually smaller then the other two?

Still waiting on mine, it's been a number of weeks now and I've tried chasing it. I'll give it another week and try again. Pretty bad service, but that's been my experience at OPCs.  Emailed my OPC a week ago about it and was told they would chase the badge and plate surround, but the paperwork wasn't something they could help with (as that's administered by Porsche Cars GB).

I’ve given up waiting to be honest, it’s been over 3mths, numerous phone and email chasing.

At the Nec classic car show I popped onto the Porsche stand and spoke to the classic guys, they apologised and gave me a goody bag with the enamel badge and book etc and said they would chase on my behalf.

I’ve now got 3 classic Porsches, 924, 986, and a 996 but can’t be bothered to register the other two due to their lack of administrative efforts

But my point is GT cars aside they are the recent cars that are commanding strong money and nobody really cares about launch colours. Marmite colours will always be off putting but while I think it's nice to buy one in launch colours I don't think it commands much extra in terms of price. Not enough to seek one out as an investment anyway.

I don’t disagree, and as you say it’s nice to have and if we feel like that now, it could command a premium later on, certainly makes them saleable… maybe.

Who knows, most Porsches seem to be on the up is all I know.
