I phoned my local OPC two days ago and was put through to the service centre - the person I then spoke to took various details and said I would receive something in the post in 3 weeks. I was also told I'd need to visit them in person to sign a form, so I'll do that when I can.

They said they had no record of my car, despite it being serviced with them by the previous owner.

I registered 10wks ago, still nothing, have chased my OPC but got to thing as yet 🙁

  2. Tappety noises are common in these cars as they are in 996’s you can spend thousands chasing a noise that maybe just normal for these cars, get it checked out but think twice before spending £££ on it. My car has done 212k and has had various noises, it still pulls strong, doesn’t smoke or drink any fluids and is dry as a bone underneath so you just don’t know.

Know this is the case of some halogen bulbs, but don't think it's the case for (these) LEDs. YMMV with cheaper ones.

The headlamp lenses are cool to the touch when these have been on, and were warm with standard halogens, so I'd argue they run cooler.

Well that’s good to know, I might hunt out a set and try them out, thanks

Yes, they do. My first 986 had litronics, and my current car which has halogens were like candles in comparison.

Just remember if you do go down the litronic route, these may still have the original (15+ year old in my case) bulbs which degrade over time, or some bulbs which are simply not good quality. I replaced them with Osram Nightbreakers.

I too prefer the aesthetics of Litronics, but wouldn't swap them for looks. Purely function over form in my case. If you're just after better light output, I'd suggest trying a set of decent LEDs in place of the halogen bulbs.

I use these in another car with halogens / relectors: https://www.powerbulbs.com/product/piaa-hyper-arros-led-h7-twin

Have tested, and these will fit (including the driver) inside 986 halogens, and IMO are just as good as litronics in terms of output.

Do those bulbs not get hotter and lead to burnt/discoloured internal lenses?

  5. Depends on your emotional attachment to the car, for me when the engine goes pop I will have it rebuilt as I have owned from new albeit with a 7 year gap, but it won’t be leaving the family now.

if you don’t have an emotional attachment then sell for parts and start again, your money your choice.

I have heard good things about Harlech so I would be getting a quote from them for sure

I loved my 986S but i hated the fact the interior is straight out the 1980s and very clumpy, I massively preferred everything about my 2 x 987S... especially the interior ;)

    Each to their own :D

Interesting perspective on the interior, I see it as very classic with no straight lines, all curves and leather everywhere (admittedly it has the full leather package) and a very good place to sit.

Collected repainted rear bumper PU from PaintFX and refitted along with replacement salvage exhaust tip heat shield, now with only 2 not 4 holes in it.  Happy with colour match as it was painted as an individual part.  Also learned that the rear PU comes off (if fixings aren't seized) and goes back on easier than the front one.

Just need to go an fill the tank (filling the company car conveniently earned me another Shell fuel reward today) and check for any issues.

Can you pm how much you paid as I’m thinking of doing the same with my rear and front bumpers, as you know I had similar damage on the back bumper, thanks

For the benefit of those who haven't found the other post, here is the link.

There is a second version that might be more suitable for the front where I tend to keep my tools.

    Decisions, decisions.... 🤔

Thanks for posting up the links for the bag, here is he link to the badge, I think it’s a genuine Porsche one, it certainly is packaged in such a way to indicate it’s OEM

  9. So thanks to @Photogirl I have purchased the pictured bag to keep my cr*p in, it Velcro’s to the floor and I’ve have added a material Porsche logo which is sewn in place which in my opinion makes it look OEM, as you can see the colour match with the rear carpet is very close and it’s a similar material

The bag was £12.99 from Amazon and he badge was £13 from 9Apart

the bang usually indicates one of the sacrificial nylon shoulders has broken. Take a closer look and grease it all up before replacing the shoulder, or it will snap again

What your looking for here is the little plastic ball joint that pops off and creates that bang, if the arm has come off be careful opening and closing as you could puncture the polystyrene drip tray which will cause no end of issues if it leaks and is a bugger to replace, I replaced mine a while ago, never again.

  11. As others have stated I second either ECU under passenger seat being wet, you will need to lift the carpet up behind he seat and feel the foam, if it’s wet, you have probably found your issue, if dry then a potential faulty ignition, but not heard it doing all the faults you list at the same time.
