Today’s job…new soft top with glass window. Easy enough job just takes a bit of patience.

while I was mucking about fitting the new roof I decided to fit a head lining to the interior as my car is an early 2.7 it didn’t come with one and I never liked looking at the mechanism.

just makes it a nicer place to be when the roof is up.

Excellent, I too have an aftermarket roof, where did you get your headliner from and does it impact on the closing of the roof?

Best advice I read is to remove the Seat Belt Buckle and transfer to the new seat.  Its just a single nut.  Then the cable from this just plugs into the car's loom as before.  So thats what I did.  The passenger seat doesn't have a wire from the Buckle.  So for now thats it.  My seats are bolted in without power to the rake adjustment.  No lights on the dash.   All good.

I'm now also on the lookout for a pair in Boxster Red for my 911.  But I might just use Black because they're that good and I'm not too bothered about the mismatch.

So how do you adjust for comfort or other drivers?

Fitted 987 seats. These were from a Cayman and are half suede.

    Wow

    Wow

    Wow

Total transformation. Best thing I have ever done to a car.

Did they need much fettling to swap out? This is an upgrade I’m looking to do when I find the right colour set, Boxster red.

If not variocam, O2 sensor could be another other bank specific misfire cause.

I had the same issue a couple of years back, immediate thought and diagnosis was variocam which is an expensive fix.

Took it to Lee and CPS to actually do the variocam and he diagnosed it as O2 sensors, an hour later I was back on the road with more cash in the bank than I had expected that day.

    I knew that was coming!

I don't drive it near enough. I'm on a campaign to sort out all the small irritations which have built up over the years because in theory that will make me want to take it out and use it more.  Or maybe it'll turn it into even more of a garage queen 🤣

Having been there and done that with a genuine 356 Speedster it will be the latter, better to leave it a little tatty so you don’t worry about it to much

No, never.  I also avoid mud, rain, dust, and too much direct sunlight. If the car gets grubby it gets cleaned and dried to avoid contaminants building up. It's also garaged year round.

So you basically never drive it 😂

@Araf Thanks for looking, I could only find the same ones, odd.  Nevermind.

My shed has arrived!  Cleans up alright but will need a full respray one day.

Thank you @Darkstar, that's very helpful. On my bike the titanium parts went a kind of dull powdery white and I found the effect unsightly.  I will say it was a mountain bike not a motorbike. Back then it was common/fashionable to use small amounts of titanium here and there to minimize weight.

I have some titanium jewellery which has stayed looking as good as the day it was made.

As you say, it must be down to the grade/mix.

Titanium on a mtb in the 90’s was expected, my Orange  Vit C with pace forks was a Ti frame and loads of blinghy red blue and gold Ti bolts and bits and bobs, can’t say I every noticed it changing colour or oxidisation on either the frame or the parts, sure you weren’t scammed 😂

    Indeed...

Thought that when I looked at the links.

Be very, very careful with Ti parts.  The way they might fail if not correctly specified and manufactured can be quite nasty.

I had heard this before about Ti, what's your thoughts on stainless steel, same issue I presume, they are both very hard with little give so tend to snap or shear rather then give a little.

  10. If you get the non OEM centre caps spray them with a clear lacquer first that should enhance here life.

I managed to pic some genuine boxed OEM ones on eBay for half price, otherwise I would go for the cheap copies.

On previous cars I've never had nuts go as bad as my Porsche ones, I think they tend to rust whether you have covers on them or not. They say that putting some grease in the nut cover helps to prevent water ingress. I haven't used nut covers as yet so can't say, but perhaps others will chime in on this one.

Nut covers look ok,I had them for a while as a temporary solution, the only problem was after a time they tend to seal themselves to the nut and the removal tool is pants so ended up using pliers which wrecked them, I found this out at he side of the road trying to change a flat, it just added to my fruition’s in he rain so I binned them all when I got home.

I have the same hood and it’s great, however engine access is limited unless you start detaching joints.

it changes the whole look if the car from the rear and I don’t find vision particularly restricted.

    Dave

I have a similar roof, agreed access is more restricted however if you tuck the glass up and over the roll bars behind the seat and use a support stick to hold the roof up access is fine, I have removed throttle bodies and got down quite deep into the engine bay. The convenience of having a heated glass window is immense and can confirm that it does not restrict rear view vision in any way

I understand. Same place did my front bumper earlier this year with virtually imperceptible difference.  I gave them an engine intake moulding for colour matching which seemed to be successful.  With the number of panel joins around the rear bumper it is a risk I am happy to take again.

Sure it will be fine, but knowing your level of OCD just wanted to point it out 😂

I'm impressed. Based on me stripping and supplying the bumper to them off the car, £278 Inc VAT!

I would proceed with caution, most good body shops would recommend spraying in part of the surrounding panels to enable a good blend as you will never get an exact match with just spraying one panel, there will always be a colour variation.
