    Hi,

Does anybody know what type of plastic the Front Bumper is made of ? I've got two screw holes that need filling before I fit my new stick-on number plate, but want to get the correct type of filler/adhesive ...ABS or PP, or something else ? I've had a good look and can't see any marking that gives me a clue, some other plastic parts are labelled with PP, but I don't know about the Bumper,  any help is most appreciated...

Often referred to in Porsche circles as a 'PU' rather than bumper so on that basis I assume Polyurethane.

  2. Quick wash and brush up after the long drive home yesterday from collection in Knaresborough.lYXTvQx.jpeg

And a small cosmetic update in similar vein to my old 987sqvrFqn.jpeg

All ready for a first run out to a car meet in Weymouth tomorrow, weather permitting.

Anyone know where to purchase wind deflector mount kit but I only need the single piece on bottom

    thank you

Probably best to try your nearest OPC. Or have a look on ebay; one of the breakers e.g. Steve Strange/Douglas Valley may be able to supply. But you may find they'll only supply full mount.

Congratulations, lovely looking spec. Not too many around with the painted exterior package, nice subtle touches. I suppose the only downside is the chipping of the intake surrounds, shows up a bit more on white. Well it does on mine 😀

Yes, definitely noticeable on the surrounds, particularly nearside. Will have to see whether the detailer has been able to rectify it at all when I pick it up on Friday. Not worth painting the whole panel and being plastic at least I don't have to worry about rust.

    Looks great!

I use RPM for servicing and recommend them to my friends.

    Enjoy!

Thanks, good to know. Seem like decent people even if they are from Yaaarkshire!

Can you tell I'm an exiled Lanc?!

  6. Thanks all.

Peter, that looks absolutely lovely. Love the painted vents, red belts and you're in the red roof club.  I had to get my roll hoops painted but well worth it  I think.
PS your mirror bases are painted too instead of being black, in case you hadn't noticed👍

Cheers Bob, yes forgot about the mirrors. Post now amended. You'll get a look if you come over to Lynmouth or maybe later in the summer in Weymouth.

could it be the previous owner had them sprayed

No definitely factory. I checked the options from the VIN beforehand.

Nice YouTube video shows how to do it using PIWIS.  Start at 6mins in if you wish. I would like to active this and also programme the auto start stop off as well.  But I cannot find a PIWIS guru near me.

Ah, now I remember where I got the idea in the first place!

Just sold the X6 on Motorway too - they put in an auction they appear to hold every week and we got more than the reserve. The dealer did try and chip me when they came to collect, but i held my ground - like you saved a new MOT, probably at least one tyre and a load of hassle

Oh yeah, forgot about the MOT which was due shortly. That's another 50 quid to add to the man maths. Must remember to tell SWMBO! :woot:

  10. Recently found myself in a position to move on from my 987 to a 981 much sooner than expected. Think my search began around similar time to @Dubdubz. Have certainly been watching all his posts and questions in recent weeks, desperately hoping we weren't going to be unknowlingly competing for the same cars!

Did alot of reading up on here and elsewhere to supplement existing knowledge. And started scouring AT, Ebay, Car Gurus etc etc etc to the point where my head was spinning! In the end decided my requirements/options would be naturally somewhat limited by various factors e.g.

    - modest budget (especially as far as SWMBO is concerned!)

    - 2.7 likely plenty for me, especially given 25bhp above my 987

    - more bells and whistles = potential for more to go wrong, e.g. PASM, PDM

    - some things e.g. Chrono would be nice to have not need to have.

Definitely didn't want Black (unless maybe with a Red roof), Sapphire and probably not Silver. Agate might have been OK  BUT the 987 was DK Grey and I fancied a change. Red would be OK but, surprisingly, I really like 981's in White. Then, I really am not a big fan of Black roofs (987 was Stone Grey) so we're there other possibilities?

I thought I would stay manual but I reckon more than 90% of the 981's on the market are PDK which I was open to trying.

Decided the must have options were heated seats (which probably 99% of 981's evidently have) and I didn't get on the 987 despite being on the wishlist, rear parking sensors, 20 inch wheels, pref Carrera S and Sports steering wheel(though I actually quite like the standard m/f wheel). Painted roll over hoops would be really nice. Front parking sensors, DAB, climate control, extended leather, cruise, DAB and auto dimming mirror would be nice but not a deal, breaker.

Almost the first two cars which really caught my eye were virtually identical, White with Red roof and 20 inch Carrera S wheels and both at the same specialist dealer, RPM Specialist Cars in Knaresborough The options on each were very slightly different but each fitted with my criteria. Of the two, the slightly more expensive 2014 model with Silver wheels was my favourite but as soon as the weather bucked up a couple of weeks back it was sold. Spent about another 2 week scouring the ads until last week when I phoned to enquire about the second car. Dealer was great, answered questions, sent me videos and copies of recent invoices for work done. They knew the car as it was locally owned and serviced by them. Most recent owner had bought it twice having regretted selling the first time!  I couldn't get to see it till yesterday but they agreed to hold it for a £500 deposit which I figured was pretty safe as they are specialists, have virtually 100% 5 star reviews (including on here) and seemed very genuine. And anyway I was smitten.

So yesterday I made the almost 15 hour round trip to Yorkshire, spending 3 hours talking, checking the car and test driving before agreeing to buy.  It's not perfect (it's just over 10 years old!) but they do a 150 point check, clean MOT (yesterday pm despite it having already been MOT'd in January), full detail and machine polish (saw and talked to their detailer who was at work on a Cayman). There was some lifting of lacquer on the headlights (no crazing) so they will be sanded and recleared. The side vents (body coloured) are heavily chipped and will  be repeainted, auto rain sensing wipers will be coded (if they can) and they'll  do a full alignment.

And here she is in all her glory (well I think so anyway!). And yes, in time honoured fashion I have bought the first car I saw!

    NhwZ8eg.jpeg

    Dr2BIus.jpeg

    gDv2Djf.jpeg

    UwiOuB4.jpeg

    Options, all factory:

Roll over hoops, side vents, lower mirror housings, rear undervalance and front grille strakes in body colour

    Sports tailpipes (Black)

Carrera S wheels with spokes painted Black

    Parking sensors front and rear

    Seat belts in Guards Red

    PDK

    Cruise

    Heated seats

    Manual aircon

    Sports seats plus

PCM 3 Nav with Bluetooth and DAB

Head rests embossed with Porsche crest

Didn't get the full leather but have to say the pebbled vinyl dash , door cards etc is a big improvement on the 987. All round the cabin ambience is a big step up from the 987. And the sports seats are really comfy.

Pick up is Friday next week and I won't begrudge the long drive home! :bana:

@deanmr2see what I mean about the colour scheme?!

  11. Sold it today to a dealer through Motorway. For anyone thinking of doing similar in future it was a relatively smooth process. Unlike wbac, m4ym and carwow, you submit details inclusing any issues plus various photos on the Mway app which you have to download. They then set a reserve price before offering the car to supposedly 5000+ dealers. After one day you receive the best offer (in my case same as reserve!) and accept or not. Positive is it's a simple process, negative is no opportunity to increase value on basis of work done e.g. suspension, upgraded exhaust, recent clutch etc etc. Assuming you accept, the dealer (or in my case an 'inspector' from an independent company) comes out to check and test drive, confirms to buyer who pays 5 minutes later.

Mway's price was about 25-30% higher than wbac or m4ym and 10% above Carwow. I was worried they would try to chip me because of rear tyre advisory on last MoT, stone chips or whatever but both inspector and dealer were very pragmatic (unlike my4m when I sold wife's car)and paid agreed price.

So, I saved £440 on tyres, loads of tax (being June 06 mine was in the £700 ish bracket and its replacement is half that) and £3-400 on  crossover pipes I won't have to replace in near future.  And i recouped what i put down as a deposit on a 981 yesterday. So on that basis an absolutely fantastic deal, and that's all SWMBO needs to know!

Here are a couple of pictures of my new to me Boxster 981 and I absolutely love it. I just had the PSE retrofitted and it sounds absolutely amazing just can’t get the smile off my face every time I go for a drive. I have owned a 986 and 987 Boxster S’s but I have got to say the 981 takes the Boxster to a new level, it just seems much more grown up and in my eyes a much more stylish car interior and exterior wise. All Boxsters are brilliant but I think Porsche upped their game when they designed the 981. I plan on doing an Italian lakes road trip next year but in the meantime I will enjoy the car to the max. Life is good.IMG-2921.jpgIMG-2436.jpg

Congrats!  I've just bought one with all the same colours, just not necessarily (to paraphrase Eric Morecambe) in the same order! You'll see what I mean when I get round to posting details.

Passenger seatbelt buckle when not in use and not positioned high enough up the seat is a favourite one, hits the seats and makes an annoying noise.

There's a 981 for sale currently (on AT I think) and pics show very clearly that the side of the passenger seat has been very badly scuffed by the seat belt buckle.

Hopefully drone won't be an issue - from reading round it seems to affect PDK cars more than manuals. Will report back once fitted!

Then I hope it works out better for you than my experience! Mine's an '06 2.7 and, whilst initially the sound was awesome, at around 50mph the drone was appalling. It was so bad that Topgear, who are local to me, had to take the car in and modify the exhaust at their expense.  If you've got a 3.2 maybe you won’t have the same issue. 🤞
