Is there a mod / fix for the drone o, the Topgear 986 version then?

Can't answer that I'm afraid. I bought my exhaust direct from TG who are local and they had he car in to modify the system to kill the drone. Not sure exactly what they did but I suspect they cut it open and added baffles.

    I'm in Dorset too

Double welcome then. I'll keep a look out if you're anywhere in the Beaminster area. As a Dorset Region committee member I can recommend Porsche Club ( did you get to the recent Porsches on the Prom in Weymouth?) and there are some good indies including Marque 21 in Bridport and Bahnsport in Blandford if you need servicing etc at reasonable prices.

They quoted me £ 400, for the pump and around £ 700, to do the job.  Does that sound about right

That sounds high! Mine was £715 all in in 2019. Pump was £165 +vat. Labour was 5 hours @ £55/hour. Bill also included gasket, drive belt, tensioning and deflection rollers and half a litre of coolant (apparently I was lucky that when it failed only a small amount leaked out).

  5. Planning to do this myself. Picked up 8 litres of Mobil 3000 5w40 from Amazon for just under £56 and a Mahle Knecht filter from ECP for £11.49.

thinking about a non valved designtek

I would advise caution. I have a non-valved Top Gear exhaust which I believe is the same as the Designtek (I suspect manufactured by TG). The sound when first fitted was fantastic at high speed/revs but the drone at around 50mph was appalling, so much so that I had to get it modified by TG themselves. My car is a 2.7 so you might fare better on the S but do your research.

Started looking into breakers as no garage or supplier is able to get one "new"

Am I right in saying that buying a full assembly like this will give me the switch (that I can remove) and the wiring harness I need? I think this is what @kevin450 meant

Then would just need the lower cowl etc

That looks exactly like the one i got.  I just removed the cruise stalk and fixed it to my existing set up with a single screw (which obviates removing the whole wheel to use both screws). I think it should have a short wire and connector to join it to the existing set up so only question is whether you get that with the assembly you buy. If not i bet you'd get it cheaply from OPC.

Can give them a ring. It is a pretty simple job, hardest part is sourcing the stalks if you wish to do it yourself.

Definitely. I searched very extensively and eventually got mine from a breaker in Holland, much cheaper than the breakers over here. NB you also need a replacement lower cowl with the additional slot for the stalk or use a Dremel on the existing cowl.

How do you remove the small trims each side that sit between the door and the hood cover?

One of mine has a scratch on it, and I want to remove it to repair.

    TIA!

Presume you mean the black, plastic looking, strips. If so then I believe the answer is you can't. There has been lots of discussion on this in recent years. Can't remember full details but they are either integral parts of the hood or at the very least would require removal of the whole hood. They are prone to pitting/chipping and many (me included) have had to repair in situ.

A question for @red rocket ? Ever heard of heating leather to make it tighter?

Yes and no. Heat is used in the manufacturing processes of various products  e.g. gloves, shoes etc. to 'set' the leather in the required form/shape. In gloves it's also used to achieve a shine on the surface. So in principle heat is not necessarily a problem. However care needs to be taken. In the case of upholstery which, in cars, always has a surface coating, you have to be careful not to overheat it and damage the finish, and in addition too much heat would damage the fibres making the leather brittle.
