Hello all, the dreaded leaky front crossover pipe job has risen it's ugly head on my S. Where is the best place to buy these please - my local OPC doesn't do TIPEC discount.

You may well still find the OPC cheaper. I checked the other day and Design911 sell kit for £400 whereas in the video I posted a couple of days ago the guy listed what he bought, totalling approx £300 from an OPC in late 2021. Best option is to check exactly which bits you need, get pricing from OPC and ask nicely whether any discount - some people have had favourable response even without being PCGB members.

  2. For anybody looking to do their crossover pipes there's a recent video, complete with part no's on Youtube. Haven't watched it all yet but looks useful and together with written instructions from one of the PCGB forums makes me feel more confident of tackling mine which looks likely to be necessary in the near future.

So just about to order these. They come primed so I just need to get a base coat aerosol and then lacquer them. Does anyone know of a good paint supplier?

I've had good results from https://refinishsystems.com/ Local to me so I can order and collect same day, which is useful. Colour matches for both Boxster (metallic) and Skoda (non-metallic)have been good.

Anybody got an outlet for the 10 mm lowering springs, I can only find 30mm and I think that would slam it too much?

Car has PASM fitted so it does sit slightly lower than a std 987

Dont necessarily have to be H&R

@T911UKis likely to know whether they're available or not.

Hi red rocket, I still haven’t solved this issue…

    Just acetona and scotch pads?

I used acetone based nail varnish remover (some is not acetone based) then I think scotchpads to remove most of the coating and probably wet and dry sandpaper to smooth before filler primer to help cover any scratches/abrasions. It's not hard to do but you need to take time to get all the coating off otherwise the paint won't stick and the surface will be rough.

Anyone have experience painting soft touch panels?

First of al it’s hard taking of the old paint without scratching the plastic, I can’t find any paint reference to have this made locally!

Have only just seen this and, if you've not sorted it yet, do a search for centre console and you will find lots of info including my own refurb, done with acetone based nail varnish remover, scotch pads etc. Most important thing is to ensure you remove ALL the soft coating. Then prime with a filler primer before paint and clear coat (I used Satin but lots of people go for Gloss).

If you want to do the job once and do it properly, sand it back, paint it with Epoxy Mastic and then paint it with a touch up stick (you won't notice it there). Once dried, stick some PPF on it. Epoxy mastic dries rock solid. I did mine about two years ago and 10k miles (~3000 of those on track) later, it still looks the same as the day I did it.

That's a good tip. I did mine about 4 years ago with Kurust, primer, Black stonechip, base coat and lacquer and i think they'll need doing again shortly.

Do people actually drive with gloves?

Absolutely! But then i did spend my whole 38 year working life selling leather for gloves and I have a drawer full of them. For winter driving I use pair of lightweight gloves made, years ago, by one of my US customers from a thin leather with textured leather palm for grip and a Thinsulate lining for warmth. Ideal combination. In general terms you need to look for lined gloves which are not too bulky and not slippery so you don't lose your grip of the wheel (most cheaper ones will be made from a coated leather which may well be slippery)

Is it an easy job? I had a brief look under there and the bushes seemed to be tucked away.

Easy enough once you figure it out. Wheel off and reach through to loosen a couple of bolts, having first doused them in plusgas or similar. From memory you need to loosen both sides in order to free the whole arb up, before extracting/replacing the first bush. Also need to disconnect the drop link. First job I did on my Boxster and first bit of mechanical work i'd ever done on any car.

  10. Very unlikely to be the original standard exhaust. Most likely it's been modded or replaced. I suppose it could be a Carnewal mod but I've never known anyone complain about those. There aren't many other well known mods on the 987.  If you could discover what's been done you might be able to swap it for a standard one with someone on here, or sell it and get a replacement from one of the breakers on Ebay.

Just had a delivery, that's quite a heavy box!  32.5kg it says on the side

Yep! You'll find it's alot harder to move around than the little ones, but so much easier to use! Had to take one up to Bristol last week for my son to use on his Lotus - he got the Halfords one! No way I was going to try lifting the Sealey into my car anyway!

any ideas how the left one was meant to go in?

I had same problem. I think the left one is obscured by the wheel etc and I didn't want to remove that. Absolutely no problem since; I think the lower cowl holds it in place anyway.

The car just seems so unbelievably good, really wondering whether to go Indi and risk no warranty

If you do go independent route we all like Marque 21 in Bridport but heard on Wednesday there's also a new one in Blandford, run by 2 former Porsche techies.

We have done local PCGB Macan get togethers but haven't felt it appropriate to turn up to "real" Porsche meetings in an SUV

All that matters is it's a Porsche ( and anyway a fellow committee member generally drives a Cayenne!).

Really happy and collection scheduled for next Wednesday, just before our local PCGB weekend meeting. Do I take the Macan GTS or the Boxster S now🤔

If you're coming to the c*ck & Bottle you bring the Boxster as I really want to see it (and you'll be desperate to drive it anyway!)Look forward to meeting you and seeing the car. And Congrats by the way.
