I've searched this forum, and used a couple of references posted here including the Design 911's crossover pipe kit.

In their kit they have included the 2 long hoses included, which is around 100 quid each, when added together made up around 40% the cost of the whole kit.

My question is, do I really need these 2 long rubber hoses as the failure points seem to be NOT at these hoses?

What do you all think?  I have highlighted these hoses in Red for clarity in this picture taken from Design911's site.

Prett sure most people don't bother to replace those if there's no evidence of leaking/weeping at the joints. May of course depend on factors such as cost and whether you're paying for the work or doing it yourself.  NB if doing it yourself parts may well be cheaper from OPC or Spyder Performance. And have you seen the detailed video on YouTube?

no contact as yet which is a bit odd

Probably not a real Black Edition.  I've seen several supposed BE's on AT which don't look right. In some cases I suspect it's a con and in others probably non Porsche specialists who don't know enough.

Looks great and easy to use.

I can help but think this is a great investment of £1200.  Man maths says so anyway and as they say 'Resistance is futile.'  I am trying to resist, but I do have a nice level drive...

Only problem is the motor died on me yesterday evening. Absolutely no power whatsoever, not a peep out of it. I assume some sort of internal electrical issue or failure in the controller.  :(

Spoke to supplier earlier and they are sending me a new motor (which comes with controls). They'll arrange collection of the duff one once I'm satisfied the new one is OK. Bit of a pain but so far they've been pretty good answering my earlier queries and now this issue so fingers crossed.

The plastic ball joint snapped on one side, fortunately I ordered some a few months back from Amazon as I thought they would break sooner or later. After replacing it the other one then snapped. This one will not stay on and is coming off every time the roof operates. The ones I bought are not OEM so am thinking are they coming off because of this. Obviously I can order a pair again from Amazon but OEM ones, would this sort it out, do they fit better?
There is another issue. The nut has come loose on the other side of the ball and I can’t see a way of tightening it due to there being no space, any ideas?
    Thanks.

Have a feeling that OPCs will only sell you the whole arm not just the ball joint. But may be worth giving them a call.  Pretty sure everyone (including me) has bought replacements from ebay( could be same supplier as Amazon). Don't recall hearing of anyone having issues with them detaching. Surprised to hear you had a second one go. This suggests they're not set up correctly, unless you got the latch caught which is the usual cause. Long time since I did mine so can't remember the set up to be able to comment re the other issue.

Going to look at a 2.9 on Thursday. Spoke to seller earlier to discuss the details that sometimes don’t show up in the advert or photos. There is a 1cm tear on the side of the drivers seat which will, should I buy the car, get on my nerves if it’s not repaired. Has anyone attempted a repair like this using the various online products/kits? Details of outcomes and any advice appreciated.

    Thanks (Steve)

I worked in the leather industry for 38 years and, whilst I am not an upholstery specialist, I would suggest the answer to your question depends on a couple of factors. In principle upholstery leather should be relatively thick and strong so first questions are why and where has the tear occurred? I'm not familiar with repair kits but in principle it ought to be possible to feed some sort of scrim inside the tear to act as a strengthener whilst glueing the edges together. Glue mght affect the surface coat so my require a touch up afterwards.  If it's along a stitch line then the edge may be weak and would more likely require a professional repair (as often seen on various car shows).

Spoke to them today. Sadly they don't do a mid red colour so will just be reproofing the hood...

I had a similar problem with my Grey roof. Eventually bought dye from Scratch Dr. https://thescratchdoctor.co.uk/product/canvas-dye-kit-for-convertible-car-roofs/

They were extremely helpful, providing me with the closest RAL colour reference to their dye so I could compare to my roof. I had to buy a full RAL booklet but it was worth it for peace of mind. If you wanted to ask them for a reference I would happily send you the corresponding RAL colour 'chip' from my booklet. Got about 100 colours, 99 of which are currently useless to me!

I found their product didn't seem to penetrate the fabric but coverage was excellent. It didn’t end up shiny and 'crispy' like some I have seen and I was very pleased with result. Pretty sure @Bluepork03 used their Navy after he saw how mine turned out.

I popped into Wilmslow OPC last week for some bits for my 996. The guy did confirm 15% off due to classic status.

Interesting to know! The 15% is only supposed to apply to parts fitted by OPC. I'll have to try asking Bournemouth next time I need something from them. I has assumed I'd only get the usual 10% PCGB discount.

That’s a cool 😎 link but is there a way of obtaining this missing part from Porsche or flea bay? Thanks 😊

As per other replies the PET will give part no. which you can then order from OPC.

could someone help me with a piece of trim, which is missing on roof part of interior? Plastic oval shaped as per pic. Didn't even notice it was missing unless I knocked it off! Thank you

Tried looking on the PET diagram for you but my patience ran out. If you want a look yourself you can download the PET diagram from various sites, including https://www.9xxteile.com/en/pet

This looks great. Where did you get the Atlas Grey paint?

Those who are doing this, are you finding a second hand unit to paint/restore or just going for it with the one from your car?

Got the paint locally, but also available for delivery  https://refinishsystems.com/product/colour-match-aerosols/

I was concerned I might screw it up so I bought a 2nd hand console with a damaged arm rest and then switched the original fittings over.

Excellent, thanks for that info, so what grade of scotch pad did you use, any trouble with the pad leaving scratch marks on the base plastic that can still be seen once painted?

I used a mixture of pads and then lastly fine sandpaper to get a smooth finish. Then I used either plastic primer or filler primer - the latter iirc, so as to help cover any remaining very fine scratches. After painting (Atlas Grey) I used satin clearcoat.  Think it looks better with gloss but I was concerned about it showing finger marks (can't stand the piano Black trim in modern cars for same reason). Couple of pics:

Looks like the nail varnish remover was from Boots. NB they're not all acetone based.

If you do a search for centre console there are loads of threads and info.

Just waiting for a delivery of industrial grade acetone to start stripping the worn rubber black Matt coating off with a view to get down to the base plastic

Doesn’t need to be industrial strength. I did mine with acetone based nail varnish remover from Superdrug and Scotch pads.

Regards the coolant pipes, has anyone used the spyder ones? or is it best to stick to oem with them?

Didn't know Spyder were doing them now. Useful to know. Don't recall seeing any mention of them on here. Nevertheless worth checking oem price with your local OPC. They'll also give a 10% discount if you're a PCGB member ( and possibly even if you're not).

  14. Finally received my 'pack' yesterday - very fancy Black box containing nothing more than a load of foam padding, a tiny booklet and a membership card.  I am seriously underwhelmed!  I see mentions on here of badges (which i have seen on display at the OPC), keyring etc but there's no mention of them in the booklet.

  15. Just about given up. Registered at Bournemouth months ago and had an e mail advising several weeks wait. Attempted to chase in early August only to find none of the e mail addresses supplied work! Eventually found out that some e mail I should have received re data protection/GDPR hadn't reached me because they misrecorded my e mail address. Since I hadn't replied my membership application had been put on hold! Rectified that but still waiting a month later. Bl**dy hopeless!
