. Just need a huge dollop of courage before I go near my Baby with a power tool. I also need to research cutting compound and polishes a bit more (all advice and recommendations welcome
I was the same before i first used a DA on mine but it's actually very easy, especially if you are carwful. Loads of videos on Youtube as you have no doubt spotted - i like Ammo and i there are some good ones by one of the detailing product suppliers (Chemical Guys i think). As it happens i am a fan of Chemical Guys VSS (scratch and swirl remover). I did also try Meguiars Ultimate Compound on basis of recommendations here but wasn't impressed personally. You also need a couple of different pads for the DA from coarse/hard to softer ( and even softer if applying wax). Alot of it is trial and error and you'll get loads of other recommendations no doubt. Can alsonfecommend Poorboys Black Hole to finsh off with - i use it on my Atlas Grey and i know others who use it on Midnight Blue and of course Black. Have fun!

Decided the take the wheels off on one side (the other side I’ll do later in the week) and cleaned the wheel arches, alloys, and the callipers. They’re looking much better now. I gave the paint inside the arches some of the wheel wax in an attempt to keep them from dirt build up for as long as possible .
One thing I did notice was that there was lots of compounded muck up in the wheel arch lip inside the leading edge at the rear. Something for everyone else to check regularly and clean to prevent any potential rust in the future.
Looks like a good job; planning to do the same myself, especially as i am aware of the build up of cr*p in the arch lips as you suggest.

also can't do "Stuttgart" with the paint brush as it's too small.
You could maybe try a Loew-Cornell Fine Line pen. Several of us invested last year after a recommendation on here. It's fantastic for small stone chips as you can just apply small amounts very gradually so may do the job for you too.

I’ve never SORNed a car before.
Do they refund remaining tax back to you?if you come to put it back on the road, do you need to re do the MOT again?
They refund any full months..details here https://www.gov.uk/make-a-sorn
You don't need another MOT unless your existing one is out of date when you retax the car.

Sawed through it 😳
Then fitted a new TRW track rod end to replace the 2005 TRW one fitted.
Took a little while to get the hacksaw cut just right so I could open it a little with a screwdriver and get some more penetrating oil in there without touching the threads.
Nice one 👍Never know when tips like this will come in handy.

(Atlas Grey - the variable colour which keeps giving in variable lights)
The alloys are 987 Gen1, option code 408 Boxster S II 18" wheels
Car was spec'd by original owner with some S upgrades (wheels, steering wheel, twin pipes)
Best colour! I love the way the colour changes in sunshine. Interesting re wheels - I've got Boxster S wheels which are slightly different. Had a quick Google and yours look like Cayman S II's. No big deal anyway.

Moaned aloud to myself that the hood closes outside the hood rails AGAIN, meaning another call to the ragtop man ! Seems its a yearly problem for me, but as the top is up and down all the time I can't really complain at stretched elastic.
Easy enough to fix yourself

Think I might give them a go when I take my winters off. Have to go past Brum once a month when I go to visit my Mum in Manchester so no probs to drop off and collect later. Was only looking earlier at a (more local) refurb - £80/wheel!!

I’ll probably need to do this soon, just noticed the roof doesn’t always go in properly on the driver side - thank so for the tip!
In case you haven't seen it here's a more in depth repair:

Fixed my roof which was not seating properly in the channel on one side. Didn't need to fit new elastic; just folded the existing elastic over where it joins the fabric flap and stapled it in place.

OK I'll try thankyou are they apps??
Precise method may vary depending on what device you use. I use Imgur app on Android phone & tablet. When i click the share icon i get the option to 'copy url' which i then paste into my post and photo then displays. Have a play to get the hang of it - if i can figure it out anyone can!

What’s the best solution to cleaning it, or should I just leave it as is?
Can't see the point. I've never seen mine and unlikely to.

Have fun. Details in the handbook. Bit of a faff getting the tool to locate properly in order to get unit out and getting the new bulb in.

Wow, that's quite something. Got to be honest though, not sure i see the point, but hey, it's your car.
What have YOU done to your 987 today

Started on top to tail clean today. Removed nearside wheels, jet washed the arches then took the liners out to clean all the tar spots off and finally gave them a coat of tyre gel which seemed to work well last summer. Finally went a bit mad and decided to paint the rusting clips and the torx screws with some Black Hammerite. Gonna need a concours somewhere to show off!
