A satisfying little job completed this morning. I've replaced the elastic that keeps the roof lined up. "How to" videos on YouTube are my new best friend. The Indie had quoted me £170.00 to do this. I am widely agreed to have no practical application, but even I could do this. I've done a better job that the original too. One inch button hole elastic instead of the half inch original. That lasted 16 yrs so the new fix should outlast me.

Good stuff. Like you i had very little 'expertise' before i joined BoXa and simple yet very effective bits of maintenance like this are therefore all the more satisfying.

Which was the best video did you use? Do you mind linking it?

I think this is the one we normally refer people to

As @McDonald mentions, buttonhole elastic works well and it's pretty easy to just remove the screw which holds the elastic in place rather than stapling or sewing new/additional elastic onto the existing piece. Lots of us have done it - plenty of info here  if you search for say  'elastic'.

Plugged trickle charger back in and noticed water in the frunk again! it did rain al day recently...

No idea how water gets there! any ideas?

Assuming the drains are clear and the battery area is,not swamped then perhaps

    - dodgy rubber seal

    - battery cover not correctly located allowing water to flover over the top of the seal

    - plastic strips down the sides of the frunk incorrectly located

    - headlights not correctly fitted/sealed, allowing water ingress via the hole for the headlight tool

  4. I've got the Halfords £50 one mentioned above. Fits the Boxster perfectly. Only downside is the short handle, typical of all the cheapies, which pretty much means having to kneel or crouch down to operate it. Having a dodgy back i have often looked longingly at the long handled racing type jacks which would make things easier.

Do you know why they’re saying not suitable for my 987 2.7? Are the links on the s dif? Thanks in advance...

I bought  a pair of Meyle drop links for my 2.7 for £30 approx 18 months ago. Seller was johnyboy-1 Last time I looked he was still selling for a slightly higher price.

Edit: just had a quick look and it seems to me that the £36 ones should fit the 2.7.

Honestly, virtually sod all left in the Coppaslip tube so I was using it up and AL1100 is damned expensive and I've not got much left.  I thought the shock tubes were a lower grade issue

Ah right. I've got a small tin of Optimoly I use on the wheel bolts but not sure there's enough to stretch.

Copious Wurth AL1100 paste on bolt shanks and Coppaslip on the shock tube as the upright with the seized bolt put up a good fight getting that out too.

Preparing to do similar work on my 987. Interested to know why two different types of anti-seize?

think I must be one of the only members on here that is actually happy with the 987.1 standard seats.  They seem to offer plenty of support, and are really comfortable for me.

I agree. Bit lighter than you but i do have a dodgy back so good support is a must.

  9. Fixed the hood elastic for the 3rd time recently. Had already moved it on a couple of notches as the hood wasn't seating correctly but then it snapped. So, bought some 16mm button elastic, sewed one end onto the fabric flap, keeping part of existing elastic there for strength and fixed it through one of the buttonholes to the frame using the T15 screw. Simples!

All PSE. Mostly sport, some sport + and a Fair amount of manual mode.

silly amounts of heavy braking and heavy acceleration and some plant the foot and let the pdk do its thing accompanied by some really nice pops and growls and nice “blippy” downshifts and for once not many people out doing their thing on the roads where I was doing mine

sometimes I forget how quickly you can cover distance in these cars when you are trying

got home and it was very hot and “boxster smelly”

Just like @Guvs on our run yesterday. Following and listening to the sound of his PSE was brilliant!

    Great minds...

Just finished doing this but the lower arches look like they’ve been shot blasted. Not sure there’s anything to do about it short of respraying.

Thinking helicopter tape for future protection?

I used Isopon Stone Chip Protector between primer and base coat.

Also washed the seatbelts with hot water and car shampoo -left to dry- hope they will retract more smoothly.

Try pulling them out fully and spraying the last foot or more with silicone. I had a problem with the centre belt in my Skoda leading to MOT failure and that fixed it.

    Hi all,

I've not long taken the plunge to aquire my lovely 986 Boxster S and not looked back.

    To date I've changed the:

-Headlight bulbs to the more powerful Philips racing vision

    - detailed the car from front to back with ceramic coating

    - removed all the rubbish and leaves stuck Infront of the radiators

    - vacuumed and unblocked all the drain holes

    - cleaned and detailed the engine bay

    - sorted out the water ingress via the door seals

-removed the rubbish Sony stereo for a classic Alpine unit which pumps out more bass and better sound quality. Also tweeted the time correction for the speakers.

-added a Bluetooth FM hands free transmitter. Life changing compared to what I had before.

-cleaned up and rust proofed the from brake lines

    - removed intake snorkel- sounds absolutely amazing

Next on the cards will be to:

-change the spark plugs and coil packs

-upgrade the TB- undecided on 74mm or 82mm

    - front mesh to protect the radiators

    - Italian tune

So I've been busy, but love the car and the way it drives.

    James

Welcome. Sounds like a good start!

great big puddle under The drivers seat!!! I’m hoping it’s from doing up the roof as I made the complete error of washing the roof and shampoo off with them down - opps

Oops indeed! Have you checked passenger side? Puddles are notorious for frying electrics under the seat.
