Interesting info. Shortly after I bought my Cayman which had the wheels refinished, one of the sensors disintegrated, rattling around inside the wheel. Wonder if whoever had refitted the valves/TPMS had overtightened? I had just assumed it had broken due to the kerbs I might have used at a trackday at Spa.

Or more common is the fitter catches it with the bead breaker or a tyre lever, may have been damaged then your kerb exploits finished it off

Thats £6 for a valve core and valve cap as they cant easily swap out TPMS valves.

They shouldn't need to replace the whole TPMS, unless it's failed, they can easily change just the valve stem part, which is a spanner and allen key job, takes no time at all. Had a 4 done on my Macan recently. (done by Kwik Fit)

I thought if you had a current OPC warranty and the last service was carried out by an OPC you could just renew without paying for the 111 point check?

For warranty renewal, if you have an expiring one, they don't even check the last service, just need a pic of the V5 and the current mileage. Just renewed my Macans warranty that way. If the warranty has lapsed or you've not had one then that's when the 111 point check and service details comes into it.

I can't find a date code on the battery yet but I bet it's the original.

It's done well to make it to almost 11 years if it is, I think my 2013 car is on the original battery too, but I keep mine on a Ctek maintainer as much as possible but expecting to replace it any time soon.

Decent priced batteries can be got from https://www.tayna.co.uk/ with quick delivery if you need a new one

When iI cleaned mine out last year, they were filthy. Glad i did it.

I removed the rubber diaphragm from the drain plug, but i put the plastic plug back into the end of the drains when i put everything back together . (Without the rubber valve)

WIll this be OK? (or would i have been better leaving the whole plug off?)

That's the same as I did

It’s organics pour some drain cleaner down and then let it rest and follow with a air line, , my approach will let you know how I go on

2 drains from the top, have to do both, not easy to find, and if you do then you'll be leaving the fabric cover on the end of the drain and future potential issues, best to remove that then less chance of issue in the future. plus some of the things I got out of mine would take a few years to dissolve in drain cleaner and would never have got blown out.

Good point there CMA. I'm sort of looking to keep the warranty in case I want to sell the car- obviously more attractive with the warranty in place. In real terms, I'd rather just service it myself (which isn't rocket science) rather than be fleeced for beginner level swapping of consumables.

In that case, for OPC warranty you only need the last service to be OPC, and the usual N rated tyres and OEM brakes, etc... depends on when you're looking to sell. But as they get older, OPC warranty and servicing has less appeal, so if your looking to sell in 12/24 months might be worth while, any longer, worth considering alternatives. Always a balance of risk and reward, is the gain at the end worth the outlay today.....

  8. What's the breakdown of what is included in that £1350 service? If they haven't given it you ask them for it. The services are done on age so irrelevant if 35k or 80k miles. As an 8 year service I would guess that includes plugs, brake fluid air and cabin filters and full service, so probably about right. The price of wanting to keep the warranty in place.

At 8 years my non OPC service cost around £400. No warranty, so if you put the £1250 for the warranty renewal and the £950 saved on OPC service in an ISA you're already over £2.2k in savings for any repair....

Always a risk as I found out, 3 months after I made the call to drop warranty I had a PADM trans mount go, but even after that cost I'm still well in the green vs OPC servicing and warranty costs to date

I've previously asked my ins co at the time when switching from summer to winter tyres and been told that they required notification of "all and any modifications", but also been told by a different company that they didn't.

Covered by the Association of British Insurers here https://www.abi.org.uk/products-and-issues/choosing-the-right-insurance/motor-insurance/winter-tyres/ only a handful of the ones listed needed notification about winter tyres.

Is there any potential insurance problem with the Kumhos, I like them and have their cross climates on our Merc camper, as well as on many previous vehicles?

Why would there be any insurance issues with the Khumo? They are legal road tyres and as you say you have them fitted to other cars.

I priced up some 20" PS4's for my CGTS today out of curiosity. The prices have gone mad over the last few months -around £1100 at most places. I'm sure they were 'only' about £800 for 4 last Sept, or even November. £1100 a set seems a LOT of ££.

Anyone else noticed this huge price jump?

I had been keeping an eye on the Lattitude prices for the last 6-8 months and they've not moved much at all.

Just depressed myself and looked back at the invoice for the 2 rear PS4S I had fitted back in March 2021, 2 rear tyres for £368 now its £320 for a single rear tyre at Kwikfit

  12. Had P-Zero N0 and N1 on my 981 along with Michelin PS4S.

P-Zero were horrible on road unless it was the height of summer, but good on track. PS4S are much better all rounders for British weather in my experience, better feedback and more feel, even when compared to new P Zeros. No experience of the Goodyears though

You don’t need PIWIS it’s just for fluid change , that’s required if the valve blocks etc are completely drained, from my understanding, should just be a case of measuring what comes and ensure at least that amount goes back, same goes for the diff oil

I think as part of the change they fit a new pan as the filter is built into it, that drains the valves which is why you meed PIWIS. Also to remove the pan you need to remove the rear bracing which if not done on a lift means geo needs checking and adjusting too.

Mines not due till next year so interested to see how you get on as I might give mine a go if PIWIS isn't needed

  15. As said, jump straight to battery terminals.

Once you've charged when starting leave it 30seconds before touching the throttle, lets the idle position reset if needed. While waiting set the top and bottom positions of the windows or you might not find the window drops correctly for the roof operation or door opening.

In the past I found once the battery went dead that was it, never really held charge for long again so best to replace. https://www.tayna.co.uk/ was where I got mine from

Out of curiosity are those cable ties sufficient to pass an MOT?

If its hidden under the front cover they can't remove them for MOT so it would pass by virtue of it being unseen

Even in basic spec what should I expect?

Standard button PDK wheel, no cruise, no sports plus, standard AC, standard seats leather, plastic dash with no extended leather, leccy windows, no PSE, red callipers, sports tail pipes, standard stereo, will say BOSE on door speakers if it is Bose. black plastic roll hoop covers, mesh wind deflector, basic tool kit and tyre goo. No folding mirrors, no auto dim mirrors.

@CMA a 2012 what should i expect option wise as standard  on a PDK car?

I had a look at the advert for that, seems like basic spec no extra options on that one apart from heated seats.

They do seem to have another listings on autotrader for the same car but with different wheels on.

Thought you said you’d prefer higher mileage 15….so you picked a lowish mileage 12😜

    And one with PADM.... 😛

Check the age on those PZeros and the cracking, could be a good negotiation point. One is N1, cant see the other so guessing they're the same, much better than the N0 versions.

I had that style of wheel on my first one, they seem quite prone to the worm corrosion under the lacquer, another negotiation point.

Something else to check, start the car, hit the aircon max button then put your hand in front of each wheel, you should feel the rad fans blowing. The fans can be prone to stop working if some grit gets in there, normally an easy fix but again another negotiation point if one or both aren't working.
