  1. Another thing you could explore is fitting the 987 airbox. I believe that gives better airflow and is standard equipment on 550 Spyder. It is supposed to be a very awkward job with the engine in place but again you maybe able to take advantage of your engine being out.

If you go this way you would need some information on how the bigger plenum connects to the 987 airbox. I fitted the same 3.4 Cayman throttle body and plenum to my 987.1 3.2 and it was childs play compared to the 986, as I just bought the 3.4 hose to connect the plenum to the airbox. Oem parts and fitted perfectly, you maybe able to do the same if you fit the 987 airbox but I’m not 100% certain 👍

  2. Hi Randeep

I haven’t got any part numbers for you but I did fit a Cayman 3.4 throttle body and plenum on to my 986s. You definitely can use a 996 one and I believe you use the 996 plenum. You need to make up hose to connect the new plenum to your airbox, using some silicone elbows and aluminium pipe. This bit was actually quite tricky to fit but if you get the elbow on the airbox with the engine out I think you would be laughing.

It definitely does work and it does seem to improve midrange torque as I remember, also the induction noise is excellent 👌

  3. I think there is a PDK reset procedure you can do yourself. I m sure I did it on my last one, I found a guide on YouTube.

It is supposed to reset it back to factory so it can learn your driving style, it may help 👍

Just awesome, perfect conditions, the sound really echos on that road.

Of course I did, the chap in th gt4 was checking my tyres, he was trying to establish if I had cups fitted 😜

Yes very happy with both changes, performance is enhanced without the feeling of intervention.

    Sounds good 👍

I might have to explore those bits of coding although most the Indy’s local to me probably wouldn’t be interested in switching them on for me.

I went to Porsche and coffee meet in Wolverhampton this morning and there was a good turnout. Nothing overly exotic like last year and a lot of people in the newer stuff revving the t*ts of them even when they sounded shyatee.

We got to park ours in the display area and I have to say they didn’t look too shabby and the new lights looked the part 👌

  5. Should be a interesting weekend for you, they are both great choices.

I went from 987.1S to 987.2S and then on to my current 981S.

My money is on the 981 but I’m biased 😂

You will feel the changes between 987.1 and 987.2 definitely more refined and quicker. My 987.2 was a very high spec and about 50k less mileage than my previous one. It was also my first PDK with I fell in love with on the first drive.

Looking forward to your thoughts and of course some pictures of the potential new cars👍

Do like the look of that, how quickly does it add say 2 psi to a tyre? My ciggy lighter one takes an age to even add a couple of psi😡

I was in Halfords yesterday and picked up a Michelin rechargeable one, it small and compact. Digital gauge either psi or pounds and automatic cut off. It took 30 seconds to add 2psi in my tyres.

    Im very impressed 😎

  7. I don’t think I’ve really driven mine in anger in the rain but I know these Goodyears aren’t as good in the cold as my old Michelins on the black edition.

I m a big believer that a good alignment, recent quality rubber and correct tyre pressure’s make a big difference to all Boxsters.

That reminds me I need to order a new tyre inflater, I’m going to get a rechargeable one as the plug in one drives me up the wall 😂

I've recently discovered a setting in Piwis that allowed me to change the steering setting to that of the 991 GT3. I think it has improved it but not significantly, I need to go back to the old setting to remember what it was like before.

You have to watch out for the sweeping statements on 981 steering, if the car had power steering plus they feel very artificial compared to a car without, so a 987 owner jumping into a car with that option enabled will feel traumatic and I don't use that term lightly.

Tyres and geo make a difference, particularly in ensuring that the steering angle sensor has been reset after geo has been adjusted, it can make them feel a bit off otherwise.

A well sorted 981 considering my points above isn't a problem and I can jump into a 997 or 987 and appreciate the improvement but not be blown away by it. The internet is full of these sweeping statements based on individual experiences so take them with a pinch of salt.

I agree with what Daz is saying, I’m on my 4th Boxster which is a 981S and as you drive the different models you can feel the evolution. The 986S feels much more by the seat of your pants around the lanes and if you’re after maximum driver input and steering feel that may be one but it doesn’t make the others worse or less involving just more refined.

Im no Grand Prix driver but if I hadn’t read about the change in steering on the 981 I doubt I would of noticed, it hardly feels numb and I find it very precise.

Sports Plus is wasted unless you track the car, it's fun once or twice on the road but manic as it revs each ratio to the redline under even modest acceleration.   PDLS (head lights) would be much more useful.

I used to think the same and never really used it but it is now my go to on a country lane blast. As long as you’ve got the paddles and put it in manual it really sharpens up the ride, it automatically puts the PASM into Sport which isn’t too firm as in the 987👌

Cool thank you. I am wondering if a 987.2 with the 3.4 might get me the oomph I’m after with the lower tax bracket. I’ve not gone to a 987.1 3.2 as the RFL is stupid, daft as it sounds 3 or 4 years saving is a service or tyres…

Having had the 3.4 987.2 the 981S feels like a totally different car even though it shares the same engine. The PDK is greatly improved and feels much smoother.

They are both great and I would recommend test driving both 👍

  10. I ve heard of it on American cars but I didn’t think the European ones did it. I ve been out for a drive with Bally off the forum when he had his RS60 and it sounded epic all the time. I know there is a additional bit of kit you can buy to over ride the rpm thing but I imagine you could probably get it turned off at a specialist.

I had the factory PSE on my 987.2 and it was either open or closed, same on my current 981.

New tyre tomorrow. Waiting on my wheel insurance to laugh at me before sending it in to get refurbed.

Any recommendations on the south coast, we do have a "Wheel Specialist" nearby but open to alternatives.

It maybe an idea to ring some of the better dealerships in your area and ask who they use or if you’ve got any friends that have used somewhere by you and recommend them. I would of recommended Lepsons but apparently they’re not so good these days, shame as they were my go to for my bits and pieces 👍

  12. 😂 I was referring to Cozzykims, the other one requires a new tyre and a trip to the diamond cutters.

I was watching a YouTube video today that featured a car the same as yours Meno, I always thought it was a great looking car but after watching that I think it’s pretty fantastic. I didn’t realise it was a limited number special edition or it had so many options on it, very nice 👌

    Good afternoon,

Annoying when that happens and we have all been there!

Thats a straight forward repair and no drama. I can easily repair that for you but you would need to pop over on a Saturday morning as I don’t have a lot of spare time in the week at the moment 😎

  14. I think it looks and sounds like a good car. Not driven a 2.7 but drove my friends 3.4 which was similar spec to this one and it drove and handled really well. I think it would make a ideal daily as your thinking and also being sporty and practical. He ran his for 2 years and had no scary bills although the bore score thing worried him he change to 987.2. He actually never took to the 987.2 and always preferred the earlier car.

I drove both and liked them both, I personally wouldn’t choose a Cayman over a Boxster but in your situation where you could have both I think it would be great 😎

@Lonewolfgjpis there much of a difference between GTS and the Spyder rear lights? If you can post a pic so I can compare as I have the GTS. 👍

I think the question is, is there much difference between the standard reds and the Spyder lights. The Spyder ones are just slightly tinted, Daz has done a video showing them on YouTube. The GTS ones are darker with a clear Center bit but yes I will post some pictures when they turn up 👍

  16. I ve just refitted my standard red rear lights as the new owner of the GTS lights has just collected them.

Nice chap from Manchester, nice car very similar to mine and his previous car was a black edition like my old one small world 😂 What he had fitted and was very impressive was the mr12volt Apple CarPlay. It worked flawlessly and looked very good, so if anyone is looking at that it seems excellent 👌

My Spyder rear lights are stuck in the post but will hopefully turn up early next week 😎

  17. If you’re buying used ones you need to be very careful, my original ones were fine on the silver reflector but when the light was one it looked covered in scratches. It was actually micro cracks that only show when the light is on, the used pair I was interested in buying looked flawless but under close close inspection I could see the same cracks as on mine.

I would only consider used if you can physically view them 👍

  18. I played around with these rear lights and the bottom line is they are expensive to replace.

Cheapest I found was the original ones new from Poland for £700ish but this was a couple of years ago.

I found a pair of good used ones but when I inspected them they were in fact as bad as my own.

I tried the 718 ones but they just weren’t for me as I prefer the red oem look.

  19. Not directly related to your question as my experiences are with the dfi engine but I have had my last two remapped.

The first was my 987.2 Black Edition and from my experience it improved lower down torque and made the car feel smoother out on the road. I didn’t experience any odd fuel consumption or over heating etc. If I hadn’t told you it had been remapped you would of thought it came like that from the factory but it definitely didn’t, also the tone of the exhaust was slightly better.

Similar story with my 981s, definitely improved lower end torque, slightly deeper exhaust sound and smoother running.

Both were done on a rolling road and showed increases on the graphs but I don’t take any notice of that, it is all about how they drive in the real world 👍

Do you have BMC or K&N?

Considering getting some for mine, any feedback? I'm not expecting any power gains, but maybe more induction noise? How often do you clean them?

No MAF on the 981 to clog up with oil either.

I have K&N on mine mainly down to the cost at the time as I got them in a sale.

I normally use BMC but I doubt there is any difference between the two. You definitely get a better induction noise particularly with the pse and overall sound is much better 👍 I haven’t cleaned mine yet as they’ve only done 3k but I would of thought ever 5k would be fine.
