  1. You wouldn't buy a new car if one of your wiring connectors broke would you ?

Go and see a computer repair guy and ask for an equivalent ribbon. Or look at it review it for any numbers, measure it and try to source another using Google.

True but we had a long discussion about that before finding out the base xenons with no washers were low-powered xenons. Just because they say xenon doesn't mean they are as bright as usual. IIRC washers required for all above 2000 lumens and most xenon lights are 3000+ lm.

Presumably you can just swap out for higher powered bulbs to remedy that, I didn't follow the conversation that far.

Piece of cake there is a video covering the process on YouTube you know. 😜

  3. The engines are similar in character the 3.4 is just a bit quicker to reach the redline, the in gear top speeds will be very similar. If the 2.7 was shorter geared I'd see the appeal bit I dont recall that it is.

I think you'll always wish you had the quicker car and it has better standard spec, painted calipers and remember things like xenon's were not standard on the 2.7 so you would need to find one with pdls or you end up with halogen headlights.

Get the 2.7 if you want to spend less and generally don't mind being down on grunt.

Don't fret over the bhp figures they are minimum quoted figures and are different to keep the stats, e.g. power to weight, aligned for each model, the Cayman was heavier, 991 heavier again. My friend has the Cayman s and another the Cayman GTS and you can't separate us.

I drove a tuned S over the weekend, I felt more surge at the top end in higher gears, doubt it's pulling any real gap between 5.5-7k to be honest but I did like how it changed the character of the engine, the surge to the top is very nice.

A well specified S is a real bargain remember people were paying 50k for the GTS, mechanically the same car, aesthetically different.

For anyone thinking of changing their wheel on their 981 ( cant think why, love the sport wheel ) their is a usefull short video on Youtube by an Ausie called Peter Fritz. he did it in literally 10 mins, no adaptor or anything used , sorry havn't attached link

Replica wheel and a replica airbag! Good luck with that.

I've had a similar dilemma with steering wheels - I have had this one in my garage for over a year now which is freshly retrimmed professionally which I have been debating on fitting to my 981 GTS (I also have the airbag) but just can't justify spending £500 on an adapter to make the buttons and mode toggle work.

The adapter was designed for the generation of wheel before this one. I'm not certain if it will work with the adapter anyway. Do you know?

  6. I think but not certain that you could order it but then I would have expected more bits in red.  Might have had the seats swapped out at some point but I like it 👍🏼

  7. No weight sensor here that was specific for the US market.

The risk is the airbag striking the child in the face and pushing their neck back. Best to have the seat right back and as high as it can go you would want the child's head to be as high as possible.

Entirely up to you but it might be worth taking him out when he's a little bigger.

Might take a look at this in the new year, sport design wheel, 20” wheels, PDLS, nice colour. Is parktronic some sort of camera system for parking? Not PSE, but can look at a retrofit. Plenty of life left at only 45k and two owners, so would be easy enough to resell if I wanted to go back to a 986. Not sure on the interior, probably have to see that in the flesh. Any thoughts?

Just get one with PSE you don't want to compromise on this.

IIRC PSE retrofit on the 987.2 was the most expensive of any we’d seen, and PSEs are on back order for months now, so consider Spyder for switchable or Carnewal if you don’t need switching.

Those engine mounts are now sounding more hassle than they are worth.

Transmission mounts, and note a very high proportion of owners will still have their original mounts. I think the older ones are 💪🏼.

  10. I would push you towards an S if you have the budget- no downside, xenon's as standard, typically better specified and  you still need to rev it out. It will keep you satisfied for longer.

Pdk or manual is up to you, no bad choice but pdk has shorter gearing than the manual which kind of defeats the purpose (especially on the 2.7). Manual arguably safer for long term reliability but failure on either is not a common issue. Plenty of spare pdk boxes these days if the worst happens.

I don't see the logic in 2012 Vs 2015 with high mileage.  There is nothing wrong with a well maintained early car that hasn't seen much salt on the road. They all.take the miles well regardless.

I agree with you on the GTS but if you are happy to go for a higher mileage car I would suggest the best bang for buck might be on miley GTS if you can find one. The market doesn't like them and perhaps a bargain to be had.

Spec is up to you but what I like most in mine is the PSE, heated seats, extended leather, pasm / x73, 20" wheels and sports seat plus. Don't worry too much about the pcm as now we can upgrade them anyway but if you are not that way inclined avoid the CDR units. Check it has Bluetooth and usb port also.

Sport Chrono is a bit unnecessary imho, I never use it.

  11. The market is all out of sorts, recently sold our daily driver and the asking prices Vs trade values are miles apart.  You still see the high asking prices but everything has slowed down so you are literally getting buttons from the trade. Fortunately because the asking prices in the dealers are still quite high here are some private buyers happy to pay reasonable levels for good examples but there are fewer around than before. Seems to me like the trade has to take a reality check on what it's asking for old stock.

Thanks - yes I wasn't too bothered about the camera but as it has one I thought I would at least put a plug on it to protect the connectors and then I got wondering if it was possible.

Any tips on what would need coding in the gateway would be helpful. I don't actually have PIWIS so will have to get someone to code it for me.

    Thanks

Coder will know just needs turning on in list.
