Hi suggestions other than a M2 comp we have several classics in the family so the Boxster hardly gets used , X5 , 3 series touring and a 2 series coupe make up the fold so adding another BMW is not really what I want as it already looks like a BMW dealership !

we need budget here - if you already have a 2 series coupe, why do you need another?

If you are looking up to £40k - the usual suspects would be a 991, TTRS, Exige, Maserati GT, AM Vantage

My PCM radio unit has started to switch on when it feels like it. Today it won’t switch on at all! Has anyone else experienced this?
    I have porches Boxter 987.
going to check fuses and pull the unit out later to see if nothing is loose.

Had a similar problem on my previous 987 - got it repaired by Cartronics. Really good service as I prefer the OEM look rather than aftermarket

  3. Took it out for a spin down to the shops this morning and realised just how dirty it is (again) - we have builders doing renovations on houses either side of us at the moment and its covered in sawdust and dirt - so that's a job for the weekend :(

Sold it today to a dealer through Motorway. For anyone thinking of doing similar in future it was a relatively smooth process. Unlike wbac, m4ym and carwow, you submit details inclusing any issues plus various photos on the Mway app which you have to download. They then set a reserve price before offering the car to supposedly 5000+ dealers. After one day you receive the best offer (in my case same as reserve!) and accept or not. Positive is it's a simple process, negative is no opportunity to increase value on basis of work done e.g. suspension, upgraded exhaust, recent clutch etc etc. Assuming you accept, the dealer (or in my case an 'inspector' from an independent company) comes out to check and test drive, confirms to buyer who pays 5 minutes later.

Mway's price was about 25-30% higher than wbac or m4ym and 10% above Carwow. I was worried they would try to chip me because of rear tyre advisory on last MoT, stone chips or whatever but both inspector and dealer were very pragmatic (unlike my4m when I sold wife's car)and paid agreed price.

So, I saved £440 on tyres, loads of tax (being June 06 mine was in the £700 ish bracket and its replacement is half that) and £3-400 on  crossover pipes I won't have to replace in near future.  And i recouped what i put down as a deposit on a 981 yesterday. So on that basis an absolutely fantastic deal, and that's all SWMBO needs to know!

Just sold the X6 on Motorway too - they put in an auction they appear to hold every week and we got more than the reserve. The dealer did try and chip me when they came to collect, but i held my ground - like you saved a new MOT, probably at least one tyre and a load of hassle

Some jobs are best left to the professionals IMHO.... I've got one stone chip at the top of the A-pillar on the driver's side, probably only 2mm long, and I think there's another one on the bonnet, but I wouldn't dream of attempting to retouch them myself. I'll probably get one of those mobile Chips Away type guys to sort them out later this year.

I thought that, until i got a quote from Chips Away to do a small paint repair on the SLK i head - a deep scratch no more than 2inches long and he quoted £580 - and wondered why i said no

quick request from me - please can someone buy these wheels, so i can't! 😂

no affiliation or anything, but i'm really thinking these would go nicely on a 987.1, with a 255/35 front tyre and a 285/35 rear tyre... would be great for trackdays...

but i must stop spending money, already planning spacers and lowering springs, i don't need more stuff!

already sold - did you buy them?

New house roof and loft boarding has put a dent in my finances (it was planned but still hurts lol)

cross over pipes replaced and now the tyres , insurance next week ..... everything has come together, hence the need to save where possible, but they have to be Michelins on a 3.4L Boxster imo

The law of sods - always happens like that :(

Could they not have told you about the rears when they failed it on the fronts and saved you the hassle?

  8. My mechanic told me to leave well alone unless there were signs of leaking - generally its the front pipes that usually fail, not the long ones, but some prefer to swap out the whole lot if they are doing it themselves.

I had the front ones replaced on my previous car for around £400 all in - my current one had already had them done. Seems that they start to leak around 10-12 years old rather than mileage.

There are a few threads on here where people have DIY'd the job - some have been clever and found ways to avoid dropping the front sub-frame completely - its way past my level of car DIY :)

Take a closer look. I can pick out the sensor just to the side of the number plate, small circular distortion in the reflection and below the rear light, below and right of the small white window frame in the reflection.

well that photo makes the camber look severely p*ssed  :)

I had a leaf go into my side intake and you could hear the fan ticking away. Fished the leaf out and funnily enough the ticking noise went away :D

Can't trust those EVs - they get everywhere :)

I've removed the baffle plate from mine and if you listen to scaremongers on the internet, that will almost guarantee the car will catch fire on every trip -not happened yet!

I agree the zunsports sit a bit proud, but they were already on mine when i bought it, and with the black on black its not as noticeable. I prefer the 981 fitment with the grilles between the slats

I'm using very thinly spread man maths as it is already...

Actually I decided at the weekend these cars are a pain to try and buy as said already its options bingo....nice colour, nice wheels, someone onm acid then cbose the interior...then try and find one with PASM and PDK and ... and - it gets boring

there is only one thing for it - you need to order a box fresh one :)

Ad just popped up on AT, priced ok, looks like it might need front shocks and a screen from MoT details

    no ID number given

I’m half tempted. Shame the 981 BE are 2.7’s

not the most comprehensive set of photos i've ever seen, but house looks nice and theres a Taycan in the background so could be a half decent person to buy from?

Get them to do the works as part of the sale price, or knock them down to cover the costs?

  13. despite all of the doom mongers above 😜 - its a 10 year old sports car and you've bought it just at the right time of the year to get the roof down and enjoy it.

A lot of the mechanical scare stories you see on the internet are from the older cars, the 981 had a lot of those resolved, yes you'll still need to keep on top of maintenance and some of the jobs will be a bit expensive due to the Porsche tax, but this forum is a goldmine of useful info and knowledgeable/helpful members and most problems will have been found and fixed in the past. People can recommend a decent indy local to you for any jobs you don't fancy doing yourself.

They are brilliant cars, don't drive like a tw@t and you'll be fine, the same as any other car. If you really want to get to grips with the limits of the performance, a day at the Porsche Experience Centre with the skid pan is well worth the money (and you get to drive some nice cars too).

Enjoy - and if you didn't know already - we like pics on this forum, so post up as soon as you get it.

The hardest part will be removing the grin from your face!!

Looks great and easy to use.

I can help but think this is a great investment of £1200.  Man maths says so anyway and as they say 'Resistance is futile.'  I am trying to resist, but I do have a nice level drive...

I have garage envy, not even got to the ramps yet :(

Diagnostics tool purchased. Went for the Foxwell NT530.

The alternative is to disconnect the battery for 20-30mins to give enough time for the memory to clear. Done that many times in the past with good success
