    So far so good mate. One thing i have just noticed though only from looking at the pics of the 2 regulators side by side is that the replacement has a curve in the right hand black metal upright. The old one looks dead straight... i mean its working fine so not complaining but wondering if they are all like that?

    I got it sorted in a rough and ready kind of way. A screw! 🤪

    Then disconnected the negative terminal on the battery before disconnecting and removing the airbag.

    Once I unbolted the motor and moved it down I noticed where the old one failed.

    The seller is an established breaker for many years so I'm not really too concerned about that. Could always raise a dispute if needed.

    That butyl tape is great - i found the part number and discovered the ‘genuine Porsche’ version on eBay for £42 which looks identical to the amazon one.  The regulator from the OPC was £168.30 plus vat, or just under £202 with 10% discount - they wouldn’t stretch to 15% as my ‘Porsche Classic’ membership has yet to come through !

    With such great advice you’ve saved me a fortune and I’ve learnt a great deal. I’ve also fixed my wobbly headlamp with a new tray, which was literally a 5 minute job, so have been able to address two inherent faults from purchase last year.

    Happy to see you are now sorted too! I thunk I'm going to get the microswitch fixed at the same time. 

    So will need to buy that too.

    Aye I had a look there and the original part number item has been replaced with a newer item. 

    Passenger side window regulator  new part number is 99654207505

    Old part number it replaces is 99654207504.

    watch a few “how to” videos and make sure you mark the positioning of the window in the fitment with tape or a marker before removal 

    I've had it open in the past to adjust the height as it never sat flush with the top and was letting in water. Having read about that rivet I'm now wondering if that's why... got the same issue on drivers side too. Never sit quite high enough. 

    In addition to that I need to buy door switches too as both them need replacing aswell.

    The motor is very powerful. I found out first hand tinkering with the door latch. I nudged the lock and it triggered the window to close on lock. I couldn't get my hand out easily because the space I was assuming shrunk. So knowing the torque of the motor I'd assume the regulator is falling apart and the motor will continue grinding it into oblivion. There is less to break in a motor. The regulator is open to the elements, water and any crud which finds its way past the window seals.

    Ochie... good job it didn't hit one of those veins. 

    Wonder how long porsche would take to get the part. Just rang them and left a message for them to ring me back as they close at 12:30pm on a sat. 

  10. Plan today was to DA polisher the car so went to get it washed and once I'd finished I went to put the windows down and hearda clunk and the passenger side window got stuck. The regulator continued to go down with grinding sound. Not good. 

    Managed to force the window up and then pushed up the regulator to hold it in place. It made a grinding sound as it went up so is it the motor or regulator? 

    Will need to get that replaced now after I inspect it later. 

  11. Great thread. Went to wash my car today and the window got stuck halfway down whilst the regulator continued to the bottom. Lol.

    Heard a grinding as it was happening.  What's the chances that the window has just come loose and just needs to be reseated into the regulator? (Wishful thinking)

    Next question has already been answered. Get genuine porsche regulator will be bought. So the design 911 OE match with 2 years warranty is a no no? 

    Also when yours went, did you have a churning sound? Hoping it's not the motor that's gone as opposed to the regulator.

    Im a million miles from anywhere in Northumberland. Mind you the roads round here are very good. We have the go to roads for the NE Lotus club and their full range of Elise/Exige - when they work. 

    If you ever come down to Yorkshire give me a shout and you can see what a 997/987 shifter feels like in my 986 S. 👍

    I would guess that if it's split then its probably not in Good Condition. Do I have any comeback do you think? Exhaust is still on my car and it's a faff to have it taken off and shipped back, but it's a bit cheeky.

    I've contacted them and awaiting reply.

    Breakers sometimes dont see a car running and base the condition on visual inspection. Not sure how much comeback you will get but because its ebay you might have something to go on. 

    With regards to these back boxes and the way they are constructed they can rust from the inside outward as well as it has a number of skins so its hard to weld.

    This was Sunday when I was fitting the Alcantara lower dash.

    You can keep your wheel looking fresh by giving it a regular brush with a soft leather brush or even a soft toothbrush.

    It isn’t too difficult to look after with a bit of common sense and 100% worth the effort as it feels great to drive with and looks great 👍 

    I’m just changing the wheel as I fancy a change as I had the same wheel in my last one, so in total I’ve had the same wheel for 5 years plus 😂.

    Im planning on fitting this one once the adapter arrives from China.

    This one looks black in the picture but it’s actually grey Alcantara but it’s damp after a intense clean as it’s a used wheel and was quite grotty😩

    They both look great and love the new one as well! :) 

    I will keep an eye out on ebay for a spare 3 spoke as Royal dont have any spares and my car is a daily so cant afford for it not to be off the road. 


    Good tips with regards to the maintenance and i will no doubt pick your brains at some point when i get round to getting the same done myself! :) 

    It's still on the to do list... along with EVERYTHING else! :whistle1:
