White 12 o’clock marker is removable and there is a black leather one underneath. Trimmed by Royal with less than 1k of wear on it 👍

I was looking to get the same wheel done by them although i have been told by some make sure i know how careful you need to be with alcantera in terms of keeping it clean and free from greasy hands and dirt.

How have you got along with it and what you changing to and why?

Going to book it up this morning. Hadn’t up to this point because needed to know the car was OK. My only reservation is noise levels. I’m going to try and get to Brands Hatch, which is my nearest track for a proper noise check and if all goes completely t*ts up, I will take my 987!

Just seen where you're based and thats a long ole trek to Donny from there. Ive got family in Brighton and Crawley and used to go down quite often and a old car buddy of mine is based in Brighton too and used to own a bright yellow Cerbera with a white circle on it. Sold it now and bought a Sagaris i think.

Completed fitting a pair of Lotus Elise seats in my S. more leg and headroom and of course has plenty more lateral support compared to the standard seats. Car will be used predominantly for track days so perfect. Saved over 20kg in weight so a bonus there. Standard seat belts retained for road use.

That looks bloody excellent mate. Really enjoying your build progress! Are you joining us at Donny in May?

I'm also very surprised that my Very Nice Sounding Exhaust hasn't sold yet. It's on Ebay now and I've had some really stupid enquiries.

If I hadnt bought the one from the US I'd have bought yours from you.

Ordinarily I wouldn't be excited about a standard oem backbox but this will sound like it's just come out the factory as the condition is mint.

Who knows, if I put it on and it's too quite and yours is still available I might buy it still.

Not sure how much of the nice loud exhaust is down to all the leaks in the backbox. 🤣

I seem to recall there are two different door locks in use one with an eight pin and the other with nine pin. I think it depends on age as to which is relevant to your car earlier cars having the earlier part. They share parts with golf mk4 and mk5 the latter being the nine pin version.

My car was the eight pin being a 1999 I don't think there's a clear cut off date probably simply  switched over when they ran out in the factory.

Yeah the later ones are with the 9 pin which is what my car will need and thats the same as the mk1 TT's. The advice is to take your part out of the car and then make sure you buy the right one after inspection.

That says passenger right so based on LHD car but is still correct for driver right as well checking the whole parts listing for door modules.  They are actually VAG modules (Audi TT Mk1 I believe is the history) so do a search by part number for best options, but go for an original Porsche of VAG branded one.

Yeah going by the bit of quick googling, the 996/986 shares the same part for the door lock as the mk1 TT. I have noticed way more right hand side parts than left though!

Will be sure to get a branded one but im really not looking forward to taking apart all my lovely door lining foam as i just recently freshly stuck it into place! :(

I am assuming that a double beep, just means a fault on the system somewhere?

Usually a double beep means there is an open electric loop like the centre console compartment lid aint closed properly.

My double beep is coming from the actually car horn itself which i think is different to the standard double been upon locking and arming.

Ime it's a microswitch on the lock that sticks due to lack of use. Can't recall which one but it makes the alarm module think the door isn't locked.

I shall take that on board and look into replacing the part in question. :)

Durametric is several hundred pounds and take a bit of time to learn to use correctly too.

Methinks change the passenger lock module and you'll have no residual faults, or at least the window will drop and rise reliably.  If still beeping change the driver's side module too.  Bit of a parts canon approach but well targeted, but will still be well under Durametric purchase price.

I thought the Durametric was circa £400 but if its more than that then id probably leave it be.

I will look into which parts i need to replace in the passenger lock module for both the window dropping and the alarm aspect.

I'd suggest the passenger side door lock is a very likely culprit then.

I've had the car over 3 years and its just started to do it now so wondering what's changed.

Your CoCs are free from Porsche?

Getting one for my Toyota, they want €160 (European, not sure if that makes a difference).  Apparently some brands including VW and Skoda want over 200. Can this be true, that Porsche tax DOESN'T apply?!  World first...

I'm presuming the number of requests Toyota/VW etc are getting is way more than Porsche and as such probably realised the monies they could make from charging for the CoC outweighed the cost of creating another revenue stream.

or PIWIS.  Revolution Porsche at Batley?

My money would be on a door latch module as indicated to the OP by @TROOPER88.  If I'm right, on your 986 it will be the later parts:

    Tsty0s8.jpg

The passenger side window doesn't drop when the door handle is activated so i know its had a micro switch issue since i got it to be fair. I've always lowered the windows on unlock from the key when i have a passenger getting in and the reverse when they have got out when locking and arming it.

I will get to it at 'some point' :D

With regards to paying to get the codes read, id rather just buy the tool myself and do it to future proof me. I've made back the monies on the ICarsoft already and i could sell it on for the price i paid for it used and upgrade to the next code reader.

  11. Im 45 with full NCB and at the time had a SP30 when last year in Feb i paid £345 for a BD postcode which is unheard of via comparison site and underwritten by Churchill.

To put that into context, our 2011 Civic 1.8L family car cost £590 to insure under the same postcode and my old E60 530D cost £850.

This year ive moved and got a LS postcode and paid a whopping £255 via a comparison site again but this time underwritten by Geoffrey. Did my due diligence on them before proceeding, there was a cheaper underwriter but they didn't have much in the way of trust pilot reviews so stayed clear.

Just ordered an eBay decibel meter to get an approximation on noise before attending a track day. I must say, I am not overconfident at the moment!

There's a number of apps you can download and apparently they are pretty accurate, some seem to be +/- 2DB...

What code reader are you using? Not all code readers will be able to read the alarm module, you'll need one that can read the Porsche specfic codes from the alarm module.

I've got the ICarsoft Por V2 and presumed it covered the alarm although i could be wrong.

How coincidental. I was going to post something up.

I have only been for a couple of test drives in my car. Doors lock automatically as the car starts moving and when I open the drivers door, I get the double beep! Does it seem like there will be a faulty lock somewhere? I assume I will need to run a code reader over it?

Mine only occurs when the car is switched off and alarmed.  It's the unarming process that sometimes gives the double beep/horn.

  15. So my car has randomly started to do the the double beep on unlock but when i ran the code reader, nothing showed up??

It's done it a few random times now and not always consistent. Sometimes i could have armed it and come back to it within 15 min and it will do it and other times wont.

Haven’t you got a manual dipstick next to the filler?

Yes there is but it's a convoluted design with loads of bends so by the time I get the end out I can barely see the actual level. I will of course check it today after I've taken it for a run and got it up to temp.

I thought that just meant oil is not full and surges forward, presumably away from the oil pressure switch. I used to get it on a couple of cars.

That was my original thought and hoped it something like that.

I know they can suffer from oil starvation on track hence the use of baffled sumps.

Would oil starvation pop up the same oil pressure warning on the dash?
