  1. Took the car in for its MOT yesterday and as expected it was going to fail on the emissions but as its a friendly MOT chap he told me to sit there with the car sat at 4k rpm to get the cats hot as the carbon build up was causing the cats not to work properly.

Eventually managed to get it to pass and get under the limit but then i do a LOT of short journeys doing the school run everyday which is only about a 20 min round trip so never really gets up to temp as its usually in 1st gear traffic.

Next time i will be sure to do a Italian tune up before taking it in. Pretty sure i have a leak too in the exhaust somewhere as i got the banks 1 and 2 were running lean error come up so that might have an impact on it. I keep meaning to take the car to an exhaust specialist to get it looked at as ive replaced the clamps before with new OEM ones and i cant seem to locate the issue.

Need to get it sorted before the track day! :)

  2. Firstly sorry to see this happened to you mate.

Secondly as with everyone else, id suggest getting quotes done locally yourself and hand the quote over to the offending party and see what they say.

Just spoke to my daughter who works in car insurance , tell your insurance company what's happened , no claim is being made , just for the record etc , it really could come back to haunt you if you need to make a claim in the future .

This is sadly and very annoyingly true. Just even alerting them then you had a bump but dont want to claim will increase the risk database for your postcode and area as it still gets noted.

This was my method... was very very pleased with the before and after.

Using just the brush on the dry top to break down some of the built up bits and also get rid of the bloody dandelion seeds!

Then the spray with water and brushing...

After all that i finished off with Fabsil the following day and it was great for a good few months but its starting to mould up again a bit so will need another session when the weather gets better.

@fizz They haven’t had a 3.2 S exhaust for more than 18 months, as that is how long I have been following them on eBay! Refreshing to hear that they are a good outfit though.

I shall wait in line behind you then my friend! 😉

On mine those colour indicator things are useless. How often are you guys nuking yours?

they barely worked form the start and i think ive nuked mine one too many times over the past year or so as one of them is starting to discolour from black to brown at the bottom side!

I nuke mine every couple of months or so but i should do it more in this weather.

The bags work really well. This was taken last night after I put just-dried bags on the dash. It was a particularly humid night and I'd just driven the car, so the warm air in the car had started to condense on the cold windscreen.

! have exactly the same bags in mine and they work alright... but need to keep on top of throwing them into the microwave!

UPS finally delivered the exhaust today. Apparently it was loaded in the wrong van causing a 4 days delay. Apart of that the shipping was really fast. The parcel left US (west) in two days and in day 3 it was in London! Really impressive. I didn't have to pay any additional cost. Ebay collected the 20% and the custom duty was 0% as the product was manufactured in the EU. The total is GBP356 (108 was the exhaust, 188 delivery and 59 VAT). The condition is much better than anything you can find here, only surface corrosion . image.thumb.jpeg.a494aa6b7854941713cb98d77e2841f3.jpeg

That looks in really good condition!

Do you have a link to the seller? Unless it was an individual as opposed to a trade sale.

put the key in the ignition and turn it one click, you can then disconnect the battery.

and yes, that alarm is ridiculously loud when you're right by it! rite of passage for boxster owners i think!

I did not know this but now I do! Thank you. :)

  10. Went to the garage today and was reminded I still have these wrapped up at the back which I bought from a mate over 2 years ago so I could use them for the track thinking car would be ready within 12 months.

Fast forward to today and its almost ready now... wondering if I will need to put some form of rubber restorer on the tyres!

Freshly powder coated just before I got them off him. And has a set of used federal track rubber on.

Thinking I might put them on for a bit to see how they look in comparison to the rims I have on at the moment.

I’ve never tried that on mine, although I have managed it on a cheapo OBD dongle to look at the O2 sensor waveforms. I’ll have a play tomorrow to see if it’s on mine (bought in US I think)

I got a obd2 Bluetooth device and downloaded an app off Google play store called 'Car Scanner'...does what it says on the tin right. Lol

So it has real-time information as you're driving and works a treat.

  12. With thanks to Chris i spent in the region of £1700 on parts and then got a friendly local mechanic friend of mine to fit it... He charged me about £550 for labour. That didnt include the extra £75 for fixing the thread in a couple of the calliper bolt holes.

There's a link to the parts and prices there or there abouts that i got.

Started into this after work.. Plan is to swap the wing out for another one.. I also want to clean the rads (they have been replaced so aren't too bad) and paint the bumper grills.. grills have been sanded and primed..

When i cleaned my rads out i relocated the manual bonnet release wire into the toe eye after someone suggested it here.

Following on from some comments in the 986 thread, I went out for a short blast to try some heel and toe (never done it before).

Almost went into the back of someone, sounded like a learner driver with the engine revving all over the place and my ankle is killing me - so went well 🤪

    Lots more practice needed...

My tip would be to do it on a quiet road and at low speeds, just get used to blipping the throttle in a manner that suits you.. i blip the throttle with the side of the right foot as im pressing the brake.

Once you have got used to doing that and it you feel comfortable with it then work out how high the revs would need to match when downshifting and start to do it with higher revs than before.

Deffo dont do it with other people on the roads with you till you're comfortable and its like second nature.

Re 2. That’s how it works if the doors are locked.  They default to auto locking above 5 mph.  You could either press the central “lock” button to unlock them before opening or get the car coded to not auto lock.  (If you had individual memory and pcm then I think you can choose how that works - if not it’s a coding job with appropriate kit)

Ahh so auto lock is standard on the 987 then?

    1. The keyfob needs to be really close to the car to lock it (better when unlocking) - is that normal? I've changed the keyfob battery but no difference.

My 986 tends to do the same when there's other cars close by and i presume some interference causing it not to work from distance.

    2. When opening the door from inside, I have to pull the handle twice. I assume the first time is to unlock the car. Am I missing something or is there a way to not need the double pull?

When the doors are locked, as you say you have to pull the handle 1st time to unlock it and the second pull should trigger the window drop so you can open the door. Sounds like it's automatically locking between you starting the car and exiting. Do you hear it locking as you drive off?

    Not sure about no.3...
