Assume that's a trade-in that is too old for Listers to retail.

Weren't independent dealers moaning last year that WBAC / BCA / Cinch were scewing the market by cutting dealers out?  They accused WBAC of paying more than trade price, Cinch charging less than retail and the independents not getting a sniff of the better cars that traders would otherwise have put through BCA?

Predictions of where prices are going,(or whatever WBAC pricing model takes into account of) could have changed if they are now only offering £9150 for an "easy deal" on a Gen2 BoxsterS.

    Yes, this is correct.

I don’t want to jeopardise my membership of BCA by giving away too much info but the Cayman sold to a Billinghurst dealer who those who frequent this site regularly will know.

    It is a stunning example.

WBAC price for a 2009 Boxster 987.2 3.4s PDK with 87k miles is £9150. Probably 10% less if you present it with any of the tyre valve caps is missing.

I suspect BCA wouldn't be getting many decent 987.2 cars in via the WBAC route at the moment if they make perhaps £12k at auction. Especially if people think they are a bargain if advertised for sale below £16k.

WBAC is one of many. many avenues where the vehicles come from Sir.

Tomorrow I am watching a Cayman, it is entered from the Listers motor group.

It is a 2007 S, grade 1 (the best), 1 owner and 16,000 miles; it looks immaculate.

At the same time, there is very regularly Lamborghinis, Ferraris etc being sold.

    As an example:

    Thursday - Ferrari Portofino 3.9 V8 Yellow 600 Roadster / 2020 / 3531 miles / 1 owner - Guided @ £147,800 - WBAC

Many years ago I worked for a company that provides the security for BCA. Since then they have more sites and more strings to their business. They also do the logistics and checks for lease car returns and collections. More ready made stock.

Manheim were doing the car returns and collections AFAIK, not BCA.

I could be wrong but I see Manheim a lot doing the checks on lease cars being returned.

I wonder why so many Boxsters are for sale at auction? Are they on the dealer merry-go-round?

After the last three years of spiralling car price madness, we are entering a period that sellers will find hard to accept. Cars are ultimately only worth the money you can sell them for. At £13k these 987.2 cars look a bargain, but they really are not, more sellers than buyers and the reserve prices were too high.

With people having to pay more for food, fuel, mortgages/rent, many won't feel flush and steer clear of buying Porsches. Still not the time to grab a bargain.

It is not just Porsches, BCA sell thousands and thousands of cars from all different sources.

BCA own WBAC and Cinch and a lot of stock comes from WBAC.

People think that this means the cars are rubbish but this is not the case. Humans like easy, hassle free transactions and as such business is booming for WBAC and as a result BCA.

Almost worth a punt at that amount.... I am guessing you need an account etc to buy?

Yes, you’d need an account and it’s trade only unfortunately.

Tbh, if I was interested in either of the above, I’d wait for them to be auctioned again (on Wednesday). You’ll very likely get it cheaper.

If you are genuinely interested in either, let me know and I’ll give you more details.

Wow, thats cheap but of course with the auction you are taking a bit of a gamble and thats why you pay the lower price.

All vehicles are graded and have a mechanical report.

I find their grading system superb tbh. They pick up on scratches and imperfections that most people would miss but yes, you can not physically see them and drive them and this comes at a cost.

  7. Quite a few Boxster's were auctioned today. Sometimes when a car does not meet it's reserve, BCA offer them at a buy it now price. If no one buys, then they are auctioned again.

2 987's have been placed on with a buy it now option:

    2011 987 3.4s, 97k, Black, auto, 5 owners, history - 7 service print outs, V5 present: £13,000

    2012 987 2.9, 79k. Black, manual, 6 owners, history - 6 service print outs, V5 present: £13,000

So seller got £15k and buyer paid around £16.3k? I'd probably take a bit more than £2k off for a car a year older with 89k instead of 63k miles.

Dealer will expect between 3and 5k mark-up for repairs/prep/premises/staff before he puts meat on his table.

You are always incredibly accurate in my book with your answers Mr Cod.

Spot on I would say 👍🏻

So that would be going back up at £17-18k retail I guess.

I've had a look at the links posted, thanks to you guys, but they appear to be outlier advertised prices rather than a general advertised price trend.

    No Sir.

I would estimate that it will be for sale with a dealer by the end of the week for 20k.

I will post the link if I see it come up.

    Hi Paul,

Thanks mate, yep, beggers belief! Luckily I have a the bins needed and also an OEM cd rack. I see Steve Strange has cages, the button side panels have also got hacksaw gouges in them from when the cage was clearly hacksawed apart! So I'll need new ones as well.

Do you know if I can get away without buying a changer for now?

No Sir, the panel that holds the buttons is all one piece as per my post above.

On the plug with the yellow/green/blue, one is power, one is speakers and one is CD changer.

Whether it will work or not is dependent on whether matey boy chopped into any wiring that I do not know about.

The only good news is that the relocation panel and tray can sell for good money as there are a lot of clowns out there who like doing the same thing.

  11. Looking at your pic:

Remove the yellow/green/blue block from the red connector. The red connector and anything attached to it, throw in the bin.

The cable tied black wire is a wire/receiver, prob DAB - bin it.

The white cable is the aftermarket speakers.

The absolute imbecile who fitted the aftermarket unit has also destroyed the whole mounting cage. It is common and I seem to spend my life putting them back to standard after idiots play about with them. They physically cut the plastic to make the Halfords units fit.

To do it properly, you will then relocate the heater unit to where it should be and you'll need new storage bins for the lower section as the imbecile fitted the kit that includes different shaped bins.

So you will need the whole cage inc vents etc; it is not a difficult job and you will find them on Ebay and yes, a CDR22 is what you need with the code.

I have honestly not purchased 986's in the past just because of the head unit fitted.

eBay is a good barometer of where prices are going. There's been a Gen2 3.4S PDK on eBay for the last six weeks for £13995 - unsold. The type of car dealers were asking north of £25k for a year ago. WBAC valuation of my car is now less than 60% of what it was 16 months ago.

Most sellers are now way too optimistic with their asking price. The used car market went crazy during Buttercup and it was never going to last. There's more correction to come before prices can be considered sensible.

    Precisely this.

I have sold quite a few Boxsters over the years on Ebay as no-reserve auctions. At the end of the day, what they sell for this way is what they are worth.

I have checked the "For Sale" section back as far as July and can’t find your advertisement.

This one from Jun but is more than £16k

I do not advertise on this site very much, not a big enough audience unfortunately.

The car in question was put on a reserve auction in my final attempt to sell, it reached 12.5k......

Yes, that was my guide. Strangely though my engine bay is much dirtier than that one and all the connectors were quite stuck .... I assume the MAF can simply be unplugged without removal but I can't see how the clip releases and it is awkward to reach.

    It simply squeezes together.

By squeezing it, you release the 2 tabs.

Popped the stereo out as no power. As suspected a loose connector. So tight getting it all back in. While it was out, connected the illumination and ran a aux cable in for the iPod. Squeezed it all back in and working.

Finished changing out all 6 lamps in the headlamps to night breakers and led side lights.

Bought a second hand roof relay and done the safety removal mod. Fitted, all good.

Went out for a nice blurt about with the iPod banging out. Nearly home and the stereo powered off again. FFS! 😭😂

So, I will have to pull that out again and sort. Might have to get the console delete out and try and feed cables back when fitting. 🙄

When removing and installing the stereo, you may find it much easier if you remove the heater controller first.

This is only 4 screws and the plugs on the back and will massively help.
