ProSpeed Exhausts in Cardiff, £135 all in, best money I've spent on the Porsche.

Crackles on the overrun sometimes, pops and bangs on a cold start, removes the drone at motorway speeds and sounds almost identical to a 981 with the PSE at full chat. You need to have it :)

Is that a stock exhaust / tail pipes? with just the bypass?

Certainly is.

Thanks

How do you say it compares to this?

And on here, around 2.30 minute mark, guy goes from $th to 3rd and 3rd to 2nd gears, whith a nice grwly sound.

Does this happen with yours / any bypass?

Is the bypass worth it on a 2.5?  I don't feel my exhaust is overly quiet or subtle already - it certainly makes a reasonable amount of noise, and has a nice rumble/occasional pop on deceleration.  I'm sure I read somewhere that the 2.5 sounds a bit more throaty as standard anyway (although I might be completely making that up!)?

I seen somewhere and it's years ago now that the 2.5 backbox had less baffling than the 3.2 also around the same time and I think it was on 986 forum they reckoned the best overall sound for the 986 was de cat pipes and the 2.5 backbox.

I had the exhaust bypass mod done by Hayward & Scott in Essex. It wasn't anything like as cheap as some people have paid on here. However, I am very happy with their fabrication. Proper old fashioned craftsmen. It was worth the money just to see the eclectic mix of cars on the premises! As for the sound, sensational above 3.5k revs, pootling around town barely noticeable and on motorway cruise almost as quiet as stock

I have just exchanged email with them. Quoted just over £500

The only video they have is of a 981. I like it, but would be curious to hear a 986 job.

Do you happen to have a video? or able to record some :) ?

The pipe size and to a lesser extent where it tees off from will affect the sound.

Sorry, don't have any sound clips. Cold start is pretty smile inducing..it burbles around town and screams when you rev it. Seem to remember it cost me just under £500 around 2 years ago.

No worries, do you happen to know what pipe size you opted for?

Not too sure about that. I seem to recall when he asked me I specified that I wanted a good trade off between being quiet around town and loud under acceleration. So if there were 3 options probably the middle one. If there were 2 options, I probably went for the louder one!..and it does sound good

I'm also thinking of having this done.

In truth I was thinking of a new exhaust system, but this might do the trick. My MY2002 996 had a 'Cridfords' bypass done and was superb. I've asked them by email to work the same magic on my 986S and they offered me a new exhaust instead, they clearly didn't want to do the mod.

Does anyone know anywhere that does it in and around the Guildford \ Woking area?

I've no idea as I have the factory fit PSE.

I guess if they don't have any issues removing your system, a couple of hours ?

Call them and ask ;-)

Just emailed them......

As ever though I always worry that once they start it's a 'you're going to need a new exhaust' job.

Go in to spend £120, come out £1200 lighter.....

I too had mine done at H&S - proper "old skool" exhaust specialists! The welding is beautifully done and the bypass pipes are at the top so very discrete. I must have had my work done well over 5 years ago (possibly 10!). I don't recall how much, but it wasn't as much as £500. I'm not into modding (car is stock apart from exhaust), but the exhaust bypass is GREAT! Really glad I did this.

Cool!

Do you have a sound clip of it? I'm on the fence between hayward and Scott and revolution... need to justify hs being double the price?
