550 Anniversary edition value?

legal

Recommended Posts

Hi long time member and I’ve not posted for a while. Been too busy enjoying my 10 years ownership of my 550.

But have an itching for a 981S.... I think they look and sound great.

I have two questions

Firstly, what do people think I’d get for my 550 at trade in? It’s got full independent Porsche service history with 44K miles.

Secondly, which car would be worth more in 10 years time - 2028? My limited edition 550 circa 60k miles, or a 981S circa 40K miles?

cheers Legal

Not sure on the value seen a real one for sale at a dealership in Cheshire with hardtop etc  circa £9.5k with 76k miles I think it said.

But there are so many advertised as Anniversary , which are clearly not, so the answer to your question .. I don’t know ?

Tricky one. Firstly I think you’d get more selling it privately than getting trade in. Doubt you’d get more than £6k unless they give a bigger discount on replacement. A good condition 550 at  40k should get well over £10k

as for future value. I think the 550 will be worth more than a ‘standard’ 981S in 10 years due to their rarity.

Here’s a picture from September at a wedding. It still looks great.

Interesting that someone said the 550 would be worth more in 10 years time. This is my thinking...

5 years ago I looked at getting a 993, they’re now double the price!

Firstly, if you do decide to make the switch you definitely shouldn't px your 550. An advert on BoXa.net/Pistonheads usually gets good results. If you really don't want to sell it yourself then a lot of specialist garages offer a seller service now. Regards value of your 550. Definitely north of £10k. There are rarely many for sale at any one time, though strangely a few seem to have been for sale recently. Prices for cars with 100k miles and less seem to be anywhere from £10k to £26k (for a 2k miler in an OPC). From details you have provided in the current market I would say your car should be worth around £12-£15k. As for which car will retain value better. Both should do well if kept to the miles/condition you state. As we get ever further along the road to autonomous/electric dullness such cars will be relatively sought after, particularly as the current Boxster has lost a couple of cylinders. However, only one is a limited edition Porsche car. Unless you're bored I wouldn't swap for a 981. It would be nice to own both though!

You are so right though when you say only one is limited edition. I don’t know whether I would regret selling it after the novalty of a newer car has worn off.

Lots of head scratching.

I did also look at early 997 last year and maybe an RS60, but I refuse to buy a car with £500+ road tax every year!

Is the appreciation/depreciation of Boxsters really worth it over a 10 year view?

I'd recommend being led by what will provide the most enjoyment (i.e privately sell the 550 and get in the 981S)

+1 and I agree with wife's 1 Boxster rule.Let someone else enjoy ?

What's worth more in 10 years? Not sure but the 550 is not going to lose much if any money but a £35k 981S will be £8-15k based on 10 year old prices of 986 and 987 or you will lose £20k plus.

If you look at this from purely a car vs car point of view then you have a 986 vs a 981 and the latter runs rings around the former in every aspect in my eyes, even with the "limited edition" trinkets on. The 981 has more power,  a better cabin, up to date electronics, better looks, a better roof etc... it's just a proper grown-up car and how a Boxster should look in my eyes. From a purely practical and enjoyment view i wouldn't even hesitate.

But if you're looking at this from a purely financial point of view then you'd probably be better off keeping the anni.

But that's the boring way of thinking and there's never a truer sentence of "you only live once" so I say go for it. To keep a car purely for financial gain seems all wrong to me, where's the roof down fun in that?

Take one for the team! Sell and watch them go up loads.

Happened to me with the previously unloved Stag. Sold mine and it would cost me more than double to buy it back but a couple of other boxes have been ticked since.

Generally speaking, it is better to regret what you have done than what you haven't done - at least you know!

Or keep two as someone else suggested.
