Alan marriott
Looking for some info guys. Looking at buying a 2003 986 the only thing I can fault is the rear boot spoiler does not come up. But it does have a aero body kit with boot spoiler and I don't know if the original has been disconnected because of this. Any ideas much appreciated. Southy
@Patt will know, I think it is disabled when an aero kit is fitted though.
map
Have you got a photo of the rear of the car - showing both rear lights? Can you still see the spoiler between the bumper cover and boot lid? With some of the aero kits there is a different boot lid which covers the space normally occupied by the automatic spoiler. In which case there's no spoiler to activate.
Jason986S
Factory fitted aerokits have the longer bootlid that goes all the way to the rear bumper and no pop up spoiler is present. If it’s aftermarket, chances are the previous owner has just pulled the plug/fuse. Probably son’t want 2 spoilers cancelling each other out. edc
If you have dealer or aftermarket for aerojkkt then there should be a wiring harness to stop the standard spoiler coming up.
Patt
Soz for delay in responding - now back in Blighty. Factory fit Aero 2 kits are very VERY rare as it was significantly cheaper for the dealers to retrofit. Mine was the demo car for Reading OPC and they went retro fit. The factory kit has a longer boot lid with no cutout for the 3rd brake light and a plastic cover inside the boot lid to keep everything dry. The retrofit utilities the standard boot lid and spoiler mechanism however a separate electrical connector that has an earth loop, also a plastic cover is placed where the 986 3rd brake light is removed.(a 996 3rd brake light is fitted to the fixed wing). The mechanism connector can be found by pulling back the boot carpet between N/S light and boot latch. You must plug the original connector into the loom if you need to activate the spoiler manually - say to gain access to remove exhaust. Hope that makes sense ?
